tinyE: Even if you were a scammer I would NEVER low rate you because you're a Potter fan.

You should pick up the Lego HPs here.
avatar
Lucius_Malfoy: Yes I plan on picking those up some time. I used to play the LEGO games when I was a kid and just recently played LEGO The Hobbit and really enjoyed that one :)
Kid!? I'm 40 years old and I still love Legos!

Same. X) Like I said still play them just meant I've been playing them since I was a kid.

Let me once again post this script, with a thanks to the GOG member that had posted it quite some time back.

Titanium: Most of us are overrated anyway.
I'm underrated, severely underrated.

Breja: He's the same troll he's always been.
I'm not, I'm a new and improved troll.

Think of Troll: Redux or Troll: Remastered.

Touch me, squeeze me, tickle me, feel the difference.
avatar
Vainamoinen: Just for the sake of sreamer17's impression of this forum, can we not turn this thread into a troll callout session? There's a very good reason I didn't drop any names in my first post here. :|
Thanks for your kind words. I am not taking anything personally, and I don't mind who is a troll or not, as long as your civil to me, I have no qualms with anyone. I just didn't like the down vote, but like you all said, it means nothing. :)
Wow, get off work, and I see 35+ posts! Wow, what a popular thread this was! Thanks for all the comments, and encouragement and whatnot :)

jamyskis: A practice which I believe is pretty despicable and only serves to lower the perpetrators to the level of the trolls/scammers. Not to mention that it is wholly childish.

We have a couple of members here who started out here as trolls or scammers. Tauto started out as an alt account of a prolific scammer, but has since come to - I think - be a quite constructive member of the community on the whole. I rarely see anything hugely troublesome from him nowadays, and I find it pretty poor form to keep downvoting even the most harmless of posts from him.

There are others who started out as quite sane members of the community - like KingBradley - but have since become quite intolerable since the wave of political extremism of late and the way this forum has become politicised.

I believe there was even one case where a user publicly abandoned their account and willingly handed it to a scammer.

That being said, as others have pointed out, rep itself is meaningless. Just make sure you switch off the option to auto-hide low-rated posts. Most low-rated posts will be low-rated/hidden for a reason, but on occasion the poster is simply the target of a bullying campaign.

Tauto: Why are you hiding?Just prove your BIG MOUTH statement.

I feel like there's no better representation of Tauto than what's occurred right here in this thread: you somewhat defending him and saying he can be a nice guy, and him immediately attacking you instead of appreciating your forgiveness.

sreamer17ydr: My question is this, sorry if this is a noob question or concern, but how come when someone posts anything on the gifting threads, or trading threads... you get low rated even if all you said was "great day, etc."?

I was told when I joined years ago, that people just low rate for no reason, but why do they penalize you for just using those boards?
As Vainamoinen said, there's a whole slew of reasons people get downvoted on this forum.
For the gifting thread in particular though, a lot of people tend to see it as "begging" and immediately downvote nigh any post in there that isn't giving away something (regardless of the fact that the thread was CREATED for that purpose, but there's no explaining the thought processes of some people).

You'll likely get downvoted in a similar way if you ever post in the "Ninja Giveaway" thread (it promotes open code-dropping, which is seen by many as a reason the scammers started coming here to begin with).

Maybe rep means things elsewhere, but it means nothing (perhaps even LESS than nothing) here. Ignore the numbers and judge people on their individual worth. If you ever get a "low rating", ignore it unless you see actual forum members telling you something's fishy.
avatar
Lucius_Malfoy: I disagree with people low rating members in giveaway threads just because they're "New User's". I am a "New User", but that dosen't mean that I am an alt user or just joined to get free games. I participate in a lot of threads, a few of which happen to be giveaways. But I always make sure that I meet the requirements and I am always grateful whether I win or lose.

I understand that people are weary of scammers, but this is basically discrimination against "New User's" and not a good way to get more people to join GOG.

That's just my opinion and I'm not trying to start a fight, nor am I blaming anyone. I just think that there should be a serious increase in moderation and that the rep rating system should be changed.
Yeah, the scamming situation really has made the community somewhat paranoid, but for good reason. I remember what it was like when I first came here, and it can definitely feel like you've stumbled upon some gold mine of both hilarity and generosity only to suddenly meet with backlash just because you didn't understand the unwritten rules of the forum.

As Telika pointed out, what do we do? Hide the issues only to sucker-punch the new user with all the forum drama we have, or tell it to the guy point-blank and watch him flee with arms flailing wildly in all directions?
It can only really be fixed by moderation, and GOG has made it painfully clear that they have no intention whatsoever of introducing any, it's just not profitable in any way for them to spend time on it.

That being said, it's undeniable that this place is way better than a lot of other forums out there, though. For all the issues we have, it's still worth staying just for the people here.

Tauto: What's up mutt, can't backup your mouth?
A little tip, kid: when everyone in a room is against you and just one person tries to give you the benefit of the doubt, don't attack the guy that's trying to cut you a break, yeah?

In common parlance, that's known as "cutting your nose off to spite your face".
avatar
Vainamoinen: ... GOG will never fix it. ...
I wish I could upvote this more often.
avatar
Ricky_Bobby: Unless the reputation points were tied to an individual pricing system, it really doesn't matter.
avatar
tinyE: I'm a little worried about not being able to post links in a few months when I get below 7, but evidently there are ways around that.
My bad, forgot about the early link restrictions. There are ways around it as you say, when I first started posting I just typed in the address, people could just copy-paste should they want to.
avatar
Vainamoinen: Sometimes members get downvoted systemically because they're acting like trolls in other threads.

congratulations on being legally blind. It's thanks to people like you that a waste of life like him still gets to cling on to this place.

RELAX! Get off his ass.

I don't doubt that since he posted that it has become very clear to him that he made an error in judgement.
We've all been guilty of that at least once in our lives, so let's forgive, forget, and move on with out lives.

Besides, we have enough annoying assholes in here like myself to ridicule, we don't need to start doing it to one of the longest and most respected forum members. :P

I feel like that's the only reason why T and his fellow cronies even bother posting on topic once in a blue moon. Make 1 decent post out of a 100 and suddenly you're a "valuable and constructive member of the community" according to some.
We are all fellow gamers.... all of us. I don't like labels such as "Troll, scammer, noob" etc. As long as the person in question, is civil and nice, plays games, that's all that matters. I try not to be mean, judge others, or anything, but we are all human and imperfect, so we sometimes slip up :)

Lets not attack today, game on!
