Qwertyman: This is supposed to be two versions of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy graphical remakes:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/hitchhikers/game.shtml

But I can't get either of them to work. I receive an error when I try to play them. Anybody aware of these and know of somewhere else they can be played?

SirPrimalform: Like the banner at the top says, this is an abandoned page. I think they've broken it somewhere along the line but haven't fixed it since it's abandoned.
Yeah, that's why I was hoping maybe someone knew of another place they could be played. Seems hard to believe that they would only be located in only one place like that. I hate browser stored flash games. Sometimes you can download them for offline use but other times not.

Hmm, in searching for a mirror of the BBC 'remake' I found this: http://h2g2remake.wordpress.com/

Not got time to try it myself right now but it sounds interesting.

Sadly, the Flash file was only a back-end. The actual Z-code interpreter ran on the server and served XML files to the Flash interface. There is an unillustrated Java version on douglasadams.com, though.

strixo: No one mentioned the Star Control 2 remake?
Would probably help if there's a link to it :D. The remake ports the 3DO version of the game code to Windows, OSX and Linux.

Ah okay. Yeah I don't know enough about programming to have even considered that. All I know is that I was able to download the swf file for Desktop Tower Defense (awesome TD flash game) and Samarost 1, but Samarost didn't work and probably for the same reason you mentioned above.

Thanks for the links!
I am surprised no one has mention:

Descent 1+2 Remake (needs original datafiles)

p.s. Also, here is a remake I *wish* GOG could offer the game original data files >_<

Cannonball, Outrun Arcade Remake (w/widescreen option)

I updated the list but didn't include some entries - especially those which aren't finished yet. It's good to keep the list clean and only add finished or mostly-completed versions.

I've been meaning to pick up Descent 1 and 2 here so that I can check out that engine.
Any Dizzy fans here?
Be sure to download Dizzy 1 remake
And if that's not enough check out fan-made games
And if you are still in the mood for some yolk download tons of DizzyAGE games
or even better - download DizzyAGE software yourself and make your own Dizzy game
Had to double check, but no one has mentioned Nuvie:

Classical remake for Ultima VI: The False Prophet, Martian Dreams and Savage Empire Maybe it is still in beta, but looks very promising. Requires original data files.

also

XU4 - Ultima IV Classical Remake A completed project! Requires original data files.

Tychoxi: Morrowind has two:

One remake into Oblivion's engine:
http://morroblivion.com

and one that updates and expands the original's capabilities:

pi4t: That second one isn't really a 'remake' as such, more of a large (graphical) modpack. It still runs using the original game engine, etc, rather than actually being 'remade' any more than a texture pack is a 'remake' of Minecraft. That's not to say it's not good, though!

OpenMW, on the other hand, is actually a remake of Morrowind from the ground up which is being made. For copyright reasons, it'll require the original game to play (though there are tentative plans to release other remakes using the same engine, once made, which obviously won't require Morrowind to be owned), but it'll be free once it's done.
Yeah! It's just that the mod adds so many modern features that it really feels almost like a remake (at least from what videos show me).

As for OpenMW it seems promising, if I ever revisit Morrowind I would certainly prefer that to playing, for example, MorrOblivion.

Also, for Star Control 2 there's also the HD remake: http://sourceforge.net/projects/urquanmastershd/. It's still in alpha but it's worth checking out and keeping tabs on it.

Red_Avatar: Doomsday (Doom in a modern engine)
http://dengine.net/
Original files needed.
Works not only for Doom, but for all the Doom games, Hexen, Heretic and their expansions as well. Should also work with user made WADs, which is nifty.
It looks very nice, but it's a bit weird to play Doom with free look. :-)
