bouncedk: Can't believe GOG is advertising a guy who tells people they need to die from cancer.

vulchor: I just want you and anyone else to know that there are loads of people that I wish to die from cancer, ebola, or really anything else.
What about the bubonic plague?
Honestly getting TB to help and get more direct attention to GoG is a good thing. Most of his videos probably get 800k so having him refer you more directly to GoG rather than Steam may be a breath of fresh air. Steam may be the target of most of his attention since he wants to inform people on the newest games that they may be interested in or would be better off holding off. Like Sacred 3, Getting new feedback on something that potentially is very bad is better than an older game that's already gotten attention for years and has it's own reviews, like The Summoner on GoG.

The real switch to another platform may or may not be possible, depends on how many must-have games you have. After getting burned on Steam DRM like 5 times in a row trying to use it on a system without steam or being constantly online made me drop Steam in favor of GoG. People who have invested enough in Steam aren't going to leave steam, but if you can compel them to get the same games from a more customer friendly source they are bound to warm up to preferring games on that source.

And maybe the sponsorship for TB's team was just a tipping point where he wanted to but didn't want to seem like favoritism too much like he did concentrating more on Indies. The sponsorship is just an excuse to actually do what he wanted to do anyways, talk about older games that didn't fit well in his WTF series due to how old they are. I think he's probably actually relieved, and he can shift his attention to stuff less intensive while he deals with real life problems.

ne_zavarj: Why TB ? Why not Lazy Game Reviews ( phreakindee ) ?
Does he owns pro-gaming team they could sponsor too and can thus promote GOG to big new audience as TB?
Well, Giants overtook The Witcher 3 pre-order spot and is now in 3rd.

budejovice: To the five or so people who are never going to buy from GOG again. .
oh? do we have names. I want to laugh at someone.

You think it's 1/10th the price and being on promo helped it perhaps?

Definitely helped, but of all the games that are 1/10th the price and on promo, Giants: Citizen Kabuto is the only one above The Witcher 3...
More exposure is definitely a good thing on this front.

Edit: The drama on this thread is... distracting.

Strijkbout: AVGN would be even better, can't wait for him to burn down the entire GOG catalogue from frustration because the games don't work on a NES. =D

JudasIscariot: I *think* there was a version of Retro City Rampage that was playable on NES, not 100% sure, though :)
Just to float the idea, I'd love to see your partnership with TB expand to include a video series showcasing abandonware. I guess my thought process is that it can only help calling attention to all the classics that are in copyright limbo for one reason or another.

the issue is that there is no such thing as abandonware. Every game every produced with the exception of games which were released to the public domain (freeware is not one of them. not sure if any of games are in public domain) is copyrighted hence why abandonware sites are piracy sites. Therefore GOG has to sortof be careful when talking about them.
Furthermore talking about games which are not on gog can harm their sales. We all have limited time to play games and if we decide to play some game not on gog we are not buying games from gog. loss of profit.

But someone has to hold the rights, no? Abandonware is not really a thing, but it describes a real situation.

realkman666: But someone has to hold the rights, no? Abandonware is not really a thing, but it describes a real situation.
Yes. GOG team probably tries to track those rights to get games for the service. There was an issue with System Shock 2 which was resolved after many months of hard work by some guy (forgot who) and GOG. Showcasing those games before they come on GOG, before it is certain they managed to secure the rights to distribute is, in my opinion, a bit of pointless endavour.

Gaunathor: GOG is using the US version of the game, which forces Delphi to wear a bra
Well that does it. I'm not buying any porn from GOG, EVER!

I am so f'cked!

Klumpen0815: junk food like snacks, processed meat, high intake of red meat etc. increase the risk a whole fuckin' lot.
Well, gee, that's not helping any either. (Long life, or pepperoni... What's life without pepperoni?)

Next you'll be telling me that spending hours a day playing video games is bad for me or something.

avatar
Klumpen0815: since it's red meat it isn't healthy anyway.
Any research that says that is clearly being paid for by the "Please Don't Eat Us Cows" foundation (or the chicken farmers). Anyways, it's hard to give much credence to anything these cretans say - I mean the ones that actually put carbohydrates at the base of the food pyramid, told us eggs were bad for us and told us to use margarine instead of butter. (What all of these have in common is recommending the slaves eat cheap food they can more easily afford so the non-slaves can have plenty of calorie-content slaves.)

I would also quibble with the meaning of "healthy". Lots of foods have both benefits and disadvantages, and saying that some food has one specific statistical disadvantage does not necessarily negate its benefits (nor eliminate the disadvantages of alternate foods). Also, some disadvantages can perhaps be themselves negated - e.g., taking a bit of chlorophyll with your red meat might be such a method -- in tablet form for me please, I don't need no stinking vegetables!

avatar
rtcvb32: Guess life and careers are just screwed up to that sense where they don't give you enough free time...
It's really human bodies that are "screwed up". (Why should I have to waste time and energy just to keep my body from doing something it shouldn't be doing?) It's just going to take evolution a while to rework them so they stop acting like they're in a constant struggle for calories (assuming society doesn't crumble, putting us right back into such struggles).

markrichardb: When's the last time you nicked the hair of the offender and had old nan dance around naked and slaughter a goat while speaking in tongues? Never I'll wager.
You might be shocked at the lengths we went though back in the day to get SourceSafe (DOS version) to work right. (I seem to recall dancing, sacrificed chickens, and phase of the moon entering into the picture.) I don't think we ever got any of Bill Gate's hair though.
