Cause there's no business like show-business!

Our DRM-Free approach to digital distribution has been the foundation of GOG.com since day one and we're convinced it is now firmly rooted in the gaming industry landscape. More and more users start to expect and demand the digital content they paid for to be free from any kind of restrictive mechanisms that limit access to their collections and get in the way of enjoyment. We think this is a good time to take the next step in our quest to make digital entertainment better for everyone. Today we set out to spread our DRM-Free ideas across the movie industry! That's right: GOG.com now offers DRM-Free movies.

Our goal is to offer you cinema classics as well as some all-time favorite TV series with no DRM whatsoever, for you to download and keep on your hard drive or stream online whenever you feel like it. We talked to most of the big players in the movie industry and we often got a similar answer: "We love your ideas, but … we do not want to be the first ones. We will gladly follow, but until somebody else does it first, we do not want to take the risk". DRM-Free distribution is not a concept their lawyers would accept without hesitation. We kind of felt that would be the case and that it's gonna take patience and time to do it, to do it, to do it right. That's quite a journey ahead of us, but every gamer knows very well that great adventures start with one small step. So why not start with something that feels very familiar? We offer you a number of gaming and internet culture documentaries - all of them DRM-Free, very reasonably priced, and presenting some fascinating insight into topics close to a gamer's heart. Now, what do we have in store for you?

- There's a whole new Movie Catalog for you to browse!
- All the movies we sell are priced at $5.99 (that's a launch promo price for a few of them), and we aim to have that as the main price point for most of our future releases
- Two of the movies - The Art of Playing and TPB AFK: The Pirate Bay Away From Keyboard are available for FREE, so that you can test our new movie distribution features
- Most of our movies are in Full HD 1080p quality, some in 720p. With those of you with limited bandwidth or download quota in mind, we also supply much lighter 576p versions.
- Apart from downloading your movies you have the option to watch them streaming online, right here on GOG.com
- GOG.com is famous for its bonus goodies - each movie will come with as many of them as we can muster
- You can expect subsequent movie releases each week

That's it. GOG.com Movies is a go, time to get some popcorn!
Please although they're free to watch on Platige site, pretty please, add an option to buy Katedra (The Cathedral) and Fallen Art.
Thank you.
Nice selection of documents GOG, good idea, even though I really hope that your main focus will be games as always :)

haydenaurion: AVGN? Yes. The other video game movies listed? Oh god no, why? :P
For the completionist's sake. :P

But more importantly, it gives a longer tail to the various franchises on GOG, collects various media in one location (GOG), and allows suc....customers, to fill GOG's coffers.
Extremely unenthusiastic about this site addition. I agree with those who say this should be spun off into a separate site (GOM, maybe?) and that GOG should keep games as its sole focus. It's not as if your catalog additions for the past few months have been that great, and now you're shifting focus even further away from the things which fan support had shown to be the attraction of the site to begin with. When you're already trying to maintain people's interest in the vagueness of Galaxy, this just seems like another distraction.

Good idea. And shouldn't be too hard for GOG to get them since CDP has been regularly working with Platige Image since The Witcher. Also, I don't know what they are offering for free on the Platige website but I got a DVD of Fallen Art and that one comes with several hours of making of material. GOG might sell an edition that contains that stuff (if it isn't also available for free already).

Even if I'm not that interested in those indie movies, the idea of extending the "GOG way" to other media is cool!
Maybe to music and ebooks in the far future! (but weren't these easier to start than movies?)

Anyway, I just hope that GOG will use MKV + X265 + DTS\AAC + multi languages (ex: eng + original + mine) + soft subs.. and not some weird old container\codec maybe put in archive\pieces :P

I'll test some free ones this evening : )

I don't see this being that successful since we do live the age of Netflix.
This is cool, I look forward to seeing what will come in the future.
I'm not seeing subtitles available on any of the movies available at the moment, are you guys planning to include subtitles on future titles? I, at least, always watch movies with subtitling on and it kind of makes for a subpar experience to have to hunt around for them. As an aside, I would also like to request it being clearly shown what format the video in question sports its audio-track: stereo, DTS, AAC etc. I know that you're aiming for classic movies in the beginning, but even with that in mind some of the older movies are available with the audio-track in multiple formats so this deserves some attention from your part.

If you already makes all things new, then you could have the same make a multilingual website!

Original :-)
Wenn man schon alles neu macht, dann hätte man auch gleich eine mehrsprachige Website machen können!
Eh... Okay. It has like 40 votes on feature wishlisht. That's quite popular. Wouldn't ebooks make a bit more sence?
Interesting. The problem being, as I casually glance over at my Vita and its Netflix app, I have to find myself wondering what puts this platform above it.

Now if you were to get Mushi-Shi, Star Trek TNG, Mythbusters, Ashens and the Quest for the Game Child, and other things I can actually identify by name, you might get more than the 'Raised Eyebrow of cautious interest' from me.

...Oooh, how about MST3K episodes? Those would get massive points from me.

I have a sad confession to make :

I am very highly skeptical about the interest of that project, and its success. :-(
Are those movies free forever?
