It could, technically, be possible to read the save file of a game in order to figure out what "achievements" you've earned/are earning. Then they could just create some fun achievements for old games that would automatically be awarded with the Galaxy client reading the information from the save.

But the major problem with that would be that very few games (unless they're part of the same series or from the same developer) use the same save format, so GOG would have to write save reading routines for almost every individual game. That'd be a massive undertaking and not one I'd expect them to ever do. Best case scenario would be GOG providing an API for achievements and developers would add them to their games like they do for their Steam builds. They could even use the exact same achievements, so all they'd have to change between builds would be which achievement API to use.

What I could see them doing for old games, however, is a coming up with a list of challenges. You won't really get to show it off when you complete a challenge, but you'd have the personal satisfaction of having done it.

Funny you say that, because Julie Urhman, the Ouya founder said that save files will be used to earn achievements for Ouya once the system is perfected. :P
Basically it will scan your save file and give you achievements based on certain code strings.

When you download a game using the Client, does anybody know if it will be an installer as now, or the game itself?
I ask because I pretty much make a backup on DVD of all my purchases on GOG. I know I will be able to still download manually, but since I use the GOG download program for larger files,and It seems as though Galaxy is going to replace the Gog downloader, The ability to stop and resume downloads for huge files is important to me.

No solid answer yet. I believe that there will be an option that tells the client whether you want to download installers or game files, but that remains to be seen.

I'm hoping there are "download installer+extras" and "install game+download installer+extras" options in Galaxy. I like the ability to have a one-click backup of everything related to a game that I can then burn to a CD/DVD, but it'd also be nice to have a one-click install (like with Steam) that will also grab the installer and extras for backing up to CD/DVD at the same time.
I could be mistaken, but I think I saw on gog.com/galaxy something like: coming this summer.

No, I'm pretty sure that's what it always said. The first TWAG beta keys are supposed to be sent out soon, though, and that will involve testing some of the Galaxy functionality.

Kolto66: First: great addition! even if many people won't use your new client, it is a good option to offer.

two things:

1. Does connecting with Steam (a competitor) mean you have to make a deal with them? If so, then please try hard not to get eaten by Steam/Valve!

2. Achievements: Please please please please please say that you can get achievements OFFLINE also, with sharing them later when going online. This would be "freedom of choice".

3. Am i going to be able to play old games via galaxy, too? Say for example Age of Wonders Shadow Magic with other gog users?

It would be REALLY neat if GOG Galaxy also would do some "cross client integration" in the form of having one big game list with all your GOG games, Steam Games and Desura games. This could be done with parsing the public game lists of a steam profile and Desura game profiles.

Launching steam/desura games from GOG Galaxy would suffice, though. For further stuff like installing and managing the games, the GOG Galaxy client just would switch to the respective clients (running in the background, obviously).

Another request for the game list - integration or not:
PLEASE PLEASE allow a category tree in your client, not just flat tags. I like the steam client, but this is the most hated misfeature of it and having more than a dozen games is really painful with flat categories ;(
Ooooooooooh man! I really really want to have GOG Galaxy if it is like Steam, but then DRM free!
The single most important reason I don't buy from GOG currently is because I like how Steam manages my games.

If GOG Galaxy resembles the workings of Steam, I'm going to switch to GOG.

GOG Galaxy launch confirmed before August 31st it looks like? :)
Can't wait. Hopefully it has even more features than steam.

In addition to allowing categorization of games, I hope that it allows for more than one category per game. Whether they do that in a manner of creating arbitrary group labels to then include games in, where a game can belong to more than one group, or they do it by letting you flag games with one or more private or public tags, and then allow viewing all games with a given tag. Personally I hope they provide both options as they both have differing but mutually beneficial semantics.

Steam allows for tags in-store but not in-library, and categories in-library but a game can only be put into a single category bin. So I can't for example have a "GFWL hell" category and put GTA IV in it, and also have GTA IV in a custom "Current games I care about" category. Their "Recently played" and similar meta-categories are nice but don't always allow me the game list view I want to see. When you have 50 or less games it isn't a big deal, but as someone gets 200/300/500 etc. games, the ability to make fine grained categories, tags and other methods of classification and organization become incredibly more important IMHO to avoid just seeing an opaque abyss of endless random game names.

I'd like to see grouping, tagging, filtering and sorting mechanisms in the client which are as extensive as possible, even if they pare it down to a set of "basic" settings for the average person by default and have some kind of optional "advanced" interface for us power-gamers. Even better if they make the client moddable with some form of embedded sripting language (probably javascript, or LUA or something), so that what they don't provide themselves - people like me in the community might take a shot at modding and enhancing.

Would be pretty cool anyway!
