For those of you wondering why pimp and I are on about, this is the second thread like this he has started. The 1st was calling everyone "losers who watch porno" because GOG doesn't sell his favorite NBA game and Steam does. Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out that one myself. :P

Mind you, I am a loser and I watch porn, I just don't see what that has to do with GOG catalogue.

For me achievements don't add or subtract much by being or not being there. But then many would probably like them to be there especially given that they are present on some other platform.

There are games with achievements that make the player experiment with different playstyles etc and they appear fine to me. But Achievements like "Drive this car for that long" don't interest me.

Ultimately, for me playing a game and enjoying and appreciating its aesthetics and mechanics is the vital achievement, not some notification popping up. But then, all of this is just my subjective view.

If you are a bad player, we are not to blame. Instead of seeing so much porn you should be unlocking achievements.LOSER

You'd be amazed how many people I've talked to who say they prefer Steam over GOG or stopped using GOG in favor of Steam simply because they want achievements. We on the forum tend to have a pretty isolated view of the majority of consumers thanks to the fact that we're such a niche audience and a small community.
I'm pretty sure OP is some sort of flamebaitier (either that, or he simply doesn't know how to communicate decently against differing opinions), but he has a very solid point.

You are to blame if you NEED acheivements to enjoy a game.

I got an achievement from it, didn't buy, saved cash for a decent game.

What if you are playing HuniePop? In that game you get achievements by watching porn.

I got an acheivement for not fast fowarding the money shot.

There are many people who buy a game in steam before in gog only because it brings achievements. I want Gog to grow as a platform. I like gog more than steam but if the same game has achievements in steam and has no achievements in many gog Users will buy the game in steam.

Another issue would be that there will be people who like achievements and people who do not.

Then those people shouldn't be buying games, and doing some achievements in their real lives.

The GOGmix for games with Steam but not Galaxy achievements has 222 votes, which given the general lack of interest in GOGmixes and the number of votes that such mixes usually get, is actually quite a substantial amount. So, regardless of what you think about achievements, the fact remains that there is a fair amount of interest in them, and they may sway people towards a Steam purchase instead of a GOG purchase.

I'd prefer DRM-free over achievements any day, but I do appreciate them as an additional challenge (unless they have online MP cheevos, at which point I just ignore them), and childish comments like "they're for losers" is only indicative of the kind of puerile elitism that seems to dominate this community nowadays (as also evidenced in the recent thread about bundling Galaxy with the installers).

You're much better off buying on Steam if you want achievements.
