tinyE: That depends on the user. Some of us have nothing to hide. What do I give a shit if Microsoft knows about me? :P I'm not a pirate or a hacker. I'm not in Witness Protection. I don't partake in ID theft, I don't cheat on my taxes, and I'm not a child pornographer.

If they want to spy on me let them. :P I pity the poor guy who's in charge of that file. Watching paint dry has to be infinitely more exciting that delving into my private life. XD
So only criminals value privacy, tinyE?

No doubt, you probably think George Orwell was a criminal as well, and philosophers in general. And to think that only a few short weeks ago you were criticizing Lin545 for defending certain aspects of communism, but here you take no exception to it's obviously increasing pervasiveness.

You're a dutiful apologist, tinyE, and well qualified to be a proudly ignorant, Amurican commissar! lol

I would simply say that different people do have different opinions and tinyE just voiced his own opinion which of course like every opinion is purely subjective. No need to get angry here.

Regeaj: If you have Windows 10 only a third of the games work immediatly. Me and my friend have around 300 games between us, and the decline since Win 10 is immense: Most games now require some tinkering, and some even wont work at all.

PLEASE GOG, devote time and manpower to get your catalogue to Windows 10! Bring back the convenience.
Very important point.

I switched from Windows 7 to 10 last year and maybe started like 20 games since then but only a few (2-4 maybe) required some tinkering. Don't know if these would have required that also with Windows 7.

However, I had put my hopes on GOG to test and make the games ready for Windows 10 for me instead.

My lesson learned: Not buying games that are not explicitely marked as compatible with Windows 10, then bothering support if something doesn't work.

A pity you didn't speak so nobly on Lin545's behalf, when he was being hounded by tinyE and some other's for voicing *his* opinion.

Sorry that I cannot be in every thread (or even know about it) but I highly doubt that I would have reacted differently then. I think a discussion is best without emotions. There may be pros and contras for opinions and for me a good discussion is about exchanging those, nothing more. Insulting or accusing rarely leads anywhere and if tinyE did this I would say him exactly the same - which of course is only MY opinion. :)

Yes, well, I *did* speak on Lin545's behalf, and a number of others who have also been hounded by tinyE -- and shall continue to do so until it stops.

Cheers
I don't get it. Why has OP been downvoted for asking for Windows 10 compatibility? Am I missing something here?

Because Win 10 is a poor choice for people that value backwards compatibility and have no stomach for inconvenience?

That feels like the equivalent of going "Linux isn't the best choice for gaming, so instead of asking for more Linux compatibility, that's your fault and you should just buy a Windows PC", a sentiment which I'm sure many here would quite vehemently disagree with.

Maybe because some of what he is saying makes some of the forum uncomfortable. I didn't downvote him but I assume a subsection of the forum don't want to admit GOG's fallibility, and thus did.

Even Thiev admitted compatibility updates to the current catalog will be slow until GOG can hire a new reverse engineering person, though I don't have the post handy. I thought by now we'd see something with dgVoodoo, though. I wish they could afford to branch back to the US. (I assume the LA "movie" office closed.)

I have yet to run into a linux user that can't be arsed to do an internet search for a solution for a common OS issue.

He literally said that he doesn't want to tinker with it, though. His argument is that convenience is a selling point (which it obviously is, given how much GOG is banking on Galaxy) and that he wants games to work better on Windows 10 without needing to jump through hoops. That's a valid concern.
Again, what you're saying sounds no better than going "if it doesn't work for Linux, don't bother asking for compatibility, just solve it yourself".

I have. Quite a few times. Mostly cases of "I got my parent/sibling/child/friend a computer with Linux for <reason> and now I'm stuck with doing technical support for them".
Unless you are about to go with the No True Scotsman and claim that those aren't Linux users because they didn't pick the OS themselves.

While I didn't downvote him, I could see some getting annoyed of him starting several threads on the same subject (borderline spamming), and being stubborn by not reading what others are writing to him.

For instance, he keeps suggesting GOG isn't trying to make more games Windows 10 compatible, as if it is only about GOG staff being too lazy to do it. Gee, what if there are real technical obstacles to make many existing games work in Windows 10, especially so that it works for the majority of people and not only some?

He would have a point if GOG was still adding "new" games to GOG.com that are not supported on Windows 10, but I don't think that is the case. When was the last time you saw GOG adding a game which is not supported in Windows 10?

Also, many people don't agree with his suggestion that only 25-33% of GOG games work reliably in Windows 10. Others seem to have much better success, so it may be he has some configuration problem (like not having enabled DirectPlay in the Legacy options), but since he is so stubborn to read other people's suggestions...
