I've been buying games on GOG for many years and I have over 100 games in my library. This is my first post.

I want to say that including GOG Galaxy as a default installation on Quake 4 is the first sneaky thing I've ever seen GOG do. My guess is that most people don't check the "Options" when installing games. Fortunately I do and when I saw that GOG Galaxy would have been installed by default I was very surprised that GOG acted this way.

GOG, your rep has just taken a large fall in my eyes.
You can still download non-Galaxy installers, you just have to know where the secret door is.

Have you maybe seen the option to change to the classic installer through the more button? GOG faced a big backlash a couple of months ago,and they somewhat found a compromise ;).Cheers

But that compromise still sets the sneaky Galaxy bloatware installers as default in several games. GOG is still trying to silently push Galaxy on unaware (and especially new) customers. Like Adobe does and many shady 'Freeware' distributors.

Yeah.Because of that i am begging GOG,and ranting on every thread similar to this to just implement the simple "Choose default installer" button on our account page.GOG would set it on Galaxy by default and we more "tech savvy" would change it to classic installer and voila ;).Cheers

That still won't work if that button is hidden under Settings -> More -> Even More Options -> Still More Options -> Make Classic Installers Default.

I'd honestly live with Galaxy installers being the default, if GOG clearly states that an alternative is available. Just a text "To get the an installer without Galaxy, our so very optional client, click More then Classic Installer".

As it is, even though the current implementation is working for me personally, I fell sorry for all the users who didn't follow the non-NEWS thread on the forums. Which is the majority of users. For them Galaxy is not optional, because they don't know there is an alternative. Heck, for all I know Steam client is also optional, because you can type a secret "ilovevalve" password that will allow you to install games without it, but only 3 people who were at a meeting during which it was announced know about it.

By not giving them your money.

I hate Galaxy as much as anyone else, maybe even more, but IMHO these threads are getting old.

The default thing pissed me off for a few minutes but then I realized, if I can't be asked to take five seconds to switch downloader options, maybe I deserve to have this crap unnecessarily downloaded on my computer.

Yeah, I don't mind the extra five second and the extra clicks. I mean as it is, I have to do more clicks to download the standalone installer, run it, install the game and play it, than by doing it all through one click using Steam or Galaxy.

The problem is, the OP clearly had no idea that switching download options is even possible. And that's what's the reason behind most of these threads appearing; it's not complaining that they have to spend more time to download the classic installer, it's them not even knowing that such installers exist.

I think the problem isn't that it takes five seconds to switch to the classic installer, but the fact that most people have no idea that these installers even exist.

Edit: Ninja'd by ZFR. Shouldn't post during work.

Ok. Can you name another digital download service with the same range of games as GOG without DRM?

After all the money I've spent on GOG I think I'm entitled to one such thread.

Upon checking titles I recall having galaxy support (Shadow Warrior Classic Redux & Neverwinter Nights Diamond),
when I tried downloading I got this (granted these are rather old titles):
The above installer does not include GOG Galaxy - our optional client which makes it easy to manage your GOG library and keep your games up to date.

Does it look differently when trying to download a newer title?

I never said you weren't entitled. EVERYONE is entitled. I'm entitled to take off my clothes and run around my yard screaming "I love sardines!" but that doesn't mean I should. :P

But since you mentioned it, how many games do you have?

And ZFR, PaterAlf make a very valid point.
I won't argue they could absolutely make it more visible.

I think you should. And film it. Then blackmail everyone to give you a buttload of money by threatening to release the video.

Like that asshole did with his Virginia campus shooting game? Made the horrible thing, which of course disgusted and outraged everyone, and then announced he'd take the download down as soon as he got a certain amount of money.
