yutt: To be clear, I am not asking for a 17 year old GOG fan/forum-warrior for clarification. I am completely uninterested in speculation from apologists or critics.

I am asking GOG staff to comment.

Sorry if that was unclear in my previous post.
GOG has rejected games long before this one, so if you going to get all "lets go to another store", note all stores reject games for whatever reason... you just don't hear about it a lot.

And GOG members are usually quite a bit older than 17...

Will never happen. It would be unprofessional and a bad move from gOg. They will never divulge why a game is rejected.

tinyE: Are there any 17 year olds in here? :P
Many who'd like to be 17 again, I guess.

Edit: Ninja'd by the perfect examples. ;)

I don't appreciate the naming and shaming of gog. If the game does release here now, it'll be somewhat inorganic. It'll be a sore spot in the catalogue. A game that forced its way in almost.

This sucks. By turning this farce into a free-speech thing this log of shit of a thing is getting support from people who probably wouldn't give it the time of day.

I do wonder at the decision a little bit, though. Given that Valve has already agreed to release it, that pretty much takes gog off the hook doesn't it? If they're doing it to be different, and hope that it gives something as a result, then the problem is it may not go the way that they want. I wonder if gog felt they'd alienate their die-hard veteran core even more with this game. you'd think those folks are likely to have more conservative view-points and be less tolerant. that said, they're still on gog.com, which means they're fairly forward-thinking tech-savvy types.

That said, I don't hate gog for this. Video games need to start censoring themselves. Shit is getting way out of hand. To use a metaphor, video games are getting older, they're more detailed, they're developing, and so if they drop their pants and shit on the rug it's not even a little bit cute anymore. Developers need to start having the good fucking sense to reign it the fuck in when they need to. With great power comes great responsibility and videogames have to be even more careful than film because they don't just show one scene in context but provide the framework for such a scene countless times in countless different contexts. they're pretty much WMD for violence in art.

Another thing people forget I think is that CDP is public, unlike Valve. that's all I'm gonna say about that.

Everyone is going on and on about respecting the individual and free-speech but at what point does something become hate-speech? Maybe this is just gog showing the world that they do decide, they do curate. Valve isn't curating, they've gone in a different direction, but you don't see anybody from Valve supporting the game.

I wouldn't say no to this game's being sold here but I don't approve of the game or the support that it gets.

At least Harper will get one vote for sure.

Back in the days when Valve didn't just squirt any half baked turd of a game on their platform, what developers would often say was strictly "our game didn't get on Steam". As in, the publisher wasn't interested, we respect that, hoping for next time. And that was it. It makes no sense to deny that "GOG’s refusal to distribute the game" is, in comparison, an inherently accusatory wording. And it doesn't work without a fair share of demands to the publisher in the first place.

Personally, based on this kind of unfairly loaded and unprofessional communication, I would never consider Destructive Creations as a business partner in any venture.

Also, whatever negative qualities I might attribute to Valve, I have always felt that they were excessively open and honest in their communication. That was never a problem for them as of yet, because they have a customer base that somehow manages to think that Valve "saved PC gaming" by whatever leap of logic they apply. So when Doug Lombardi, Valve’s Vice President of Marketing, says they pulled Hatred off Greenlight upon seeing the game footage, I have no reason to accuse him of lying.

Least of all would I make that accusation of dishonesty with the sole intent to continuously further the image of a fictional and unlikely enemy figure that manages to influence sound business decisions by pouring out blind hate in a comment section. As if Depression Quest would have ever released on Steam were that the case.

And GOG? Well over 3,000 people wishing for Hatred on GOG, and a meagre 159 explicitly wishing for it not to happen... whatever GOG decided upon, we will assume that they would give a shit about the 159 and rather think about the 3,000+ sales they could make instead. Unless... unless, of course, they do have their own personal moral reservations, which a publisher may actually have, or unless they have other reservations, which may well be the case here. Yet 159 somehow overruling the 3,000?

That's a fantasy.

I do hope GOG rejected Hatred on the sole basis of quality (which would be another possible, very valid reason to keep their mouths shut about the matter like an actually trustworthy business partner). Yet don't worry, should that happen, customers can still blame their purchase reflex on "SJW outrage" and "the SJW" for having pre-ordered a boring, broken shooter wannabe.

Sabin_Stargem: Considering that Steam supports DRM, I want GOG to carry the game. Is it odd to prefer legal access to the game, with a guarantee that there is no DRM?
No, it's not. Nonetheless, you're censoring yourself, GOG isn't forcing you to not buy the game off Steam.

Primo_Victoria: Why are you changing the subject from the reasons why it was rejected to the obligation to sell it?
I have honestly no idea what you are trying to tell me.
Hatred on GOG NOW!!!!! Stop censoring GOG.
Oh fuck.
Stop being dumb GOG, there's no reason for this censorship.

No I was just venting at a post but I didn't point it out because I really don't want to get into a fight right now.

I wonder what post you could mean.

By the way, Amazon didn't publish my book. That's censorship.
