MarkoH01: Really? Those things do matter in a video game? Maybe I am just a bit too simple in this regard. Play the game, like or dislike the game. Don't care about politics or anything in games since it's all make believe after all (I also watch horror movies in which people use chainsaws to do terrible, terrible things ... don't care - it's just a movie). Just enjoy the game. I would never try to write a diploma about a video game. Are the graphics and music good? Do I like the gameplay? Have I enjoyed the story? Or even more easy: was it fun? That's all that matters to me.
Except that such matters can get in the way of fun.
For example, imagine you're black, and there's this game that seems like it would be a really fun game; it's in your genre, and it has great gameplay, so you buy it and start playing it, and have a lot of fun.
Then, all of the sudden, you encounter some NPCs that hurl the n-word around (not going to post the actual word here, but it's a 6 letter word that is derived from the Spanish word for "black", and it's considered a slur). Can you see how this makes the game less fun?
Now, suppose you finally encounter a black character in the game, and said character does extremely cruel things, and is extremely repulsive. How does it make you feel when the only character who is like you is portrayed in such an offensive manner?
To make it worse, when you actually reach this boss, your character says something like "Die, [n-word]!". (Again, I'm not posting the actual word here, but it's the same one.) How does this make you feel?
Can you see why this sort of thing would ruin the fun for some gamers?
