Tarnicus: Destination: Camp Eden

Packing list

* 2 sets of clothing (including bamboo socks and underwear which have natural anti-bacterial properties)
I suggest an extra pair of underwear for the pack. Because . . . two sets may not be enough. Really, you never know. It certainly doesn't do to be without. Also, when clean, they double as a small towel or a generic piece of cloth, and they won't add much weight or bulk to your pack.

Your journey is a search for your dream of healing. I believe that as long as you move forward towards it, you will find it. Hold onto what is good, even if it is a handful of earth and let your soul recover under a million stars.

I think I've said this before, but life is not a rehearsal, we only get one go at it, so value each day and do what your heart is telling you.

The only thing I can think of to add to your packing is isopropyl alcohol. I didn't see it mentioned previously and apologize if it was. Cody Lundin has many survival in the bush videos and this is one of them.

God bless my friend.
Might want to change one of your water bottles for this or something similar :

Waterborne pathogens can be pretty nasty.

LoboBlanco: I don´t think even aliens get near Australia, so if you are laying down during the night gazing at the stars and you see some weird sh*...things in the sky...................RUN, it´s gotta be humans.

By the way, I agree, nature recharges us..........I do miss the city after some time, but I miss being in the middle of nature when I´m in the city. :P
And if you go camping, living like a neanderthal for a few days gives quite a feeling of...........freedom.
avatar
Tarnicus: Oh they do get near Australia, well UFOs anyway. I have no idea if they are human, alien or er 'other' but I have seen some things that I cannot explain. I did find a rational explanation for one thing I saw when I was a teenager, and in hindsight I would posit that it was ball lighting. It totally freaked out my friend and I when we saw it!
Heh! Me too, I´m not the one that sees a firefly or a satellite and screams UFO, I usually try to find the logical explanation, though sometimes, the logical one is the one everyone "fears" :P
But those are stories for another thread, or this could get tooooooooooooooo loooooong :D

So, DON¨T FORGET THE KLEENEX...................Remember, take no more than pictures, leave no more than footsteps :D

Tarnicus: ...
I can be prone to forgetting the obvious, and could do with a hand ensuring that I pack the essentials. Take into account that I am restricted by what I can carry in a 70L backpack. Oh, and if you've made it this far, I am also cleaning out my stash of GOG, Steam and Desura codes, and they have been accumulating!

List of GOG games to give away

Packing list

* Tent
* Sleeping bag (keeps me warm to -7C)
* Expensive air mattress (my back needs healing so this is a must for once)
* Phone & tablet & keyboard (I need advice on apps and games as I have little experience with Android)
...

Treasure: As for Android recommendations, I don't game much on Android either (mainly because of the aforementioned "draining a whole lot of battery" issue) but I warmly recommend "King of Dragon Pass"
I can't believe I forgot to add this game to my list. Yeah, one of the best android games available.

Tarnicus: Ah some criticism, a surefire sign that I am on the right path. Thank you for your input.

gunsynd: Ok Blake, what's your disability and reason for fucking bludging off the Australian People who
actually work for a living? And yet you can do this (I walked 383km down the south coast of NSW )
Do not bullshit to me,about your so called holiday in the bush on the Australian Taxpayer's Backs..
People like you are bringing down our Country and sending it broke..
I hope they can at least catch some of the DOLE BLUDGERS...
Not all disabilities are physical. And it takes more than some people using up a little bit of money from tax payers to bring down a country. And he's not stealing money from tax payers. The money is given to him because the authorities decided he NEEDS it to not end up on the streets. And he needs this vacation for his mind, soul and body. Think of the vacation like visiting a doctor. And it's not like he is partying in a five star hotel in Las Vegas or the south of France or somewhere expensive and eating at fancy restaurants every day. The guy will be eating lentils everyday and maybe some insects in front of his tent. Not very luxurious. He is not draining Australia of millions of dollars every year. CALM DOWN. It makes me sad that you are being so cruel to this guy. A person who is doing nothing to hurt anyone. His life will also have no affect on your quality of life, whatsoever. Relax, man.

Take care, Tarnicus, you are one of my favorites on here and I'll miss you.

That said, I hope that your time out in the bush helps you greatly! i can fully appreciate your issues with the noise and bustle of society. I live right off a major street in town and the traffic noises are unrelenting. (thankfully, there are no more barking dogs or so far, any irritating neighbors here though)
I've been a frequent "mover" over the past 8 years or so because in every situation someone or something gets me to the point of misery and makes me want away.

It seems like you have some pretty good advice so far and I know you have a lot of experience, given that, I can't think of anything else you might take... except my well wishes.

Be safe, be calm, and heal! we'll still be here when you get back.

Maybe your right, maybe your wrong.Unless you have inside knowledge of our economy via C.I.A,then I don't
think you know what's going on in our Country. We have thousands of people bludging on the Dole and cheating
the Government in some way or another. This costs us billions each year, the system has broken down badly.
Maybe I am being hard on Blake,as he said and rightly I don't know his personal history.

It upsets me with all the ripoffs in our Country and it seems to be getting worse, and the Government is losing a billion
dollars everyday. They have stated that unless something drastic is done by 2018,they wont be able to pay the pension.
And please don't say something stupid like, what about your Superannuation scheme because it needs another 20 years to start effecting the pension. As in people being self reliant without the Pension.

I can see that you are his friend and maybe a bit biased in your comments,ok fair enough.Do not make the mistake
that you know what's going on in Australia via U.S.Press or the Internet,as you are not in our Country....
On our Countries policies and problems, you have two words: (BUTT OUT....)
For truly portable cooking (and heating), I recommend a hobo stove, you can make one out of one or two tin cans and fill it with twigs. Works like a charm:

You're the only person being biased and making assumptions about other people.

Take a chill pill, dude. Then go complain to your representatives about bad policies. That's the appropriate person for your rant.

Another one,Who's being biased now?
That sounds awesome and I admire the free-spirit in you. All you need now is a companion by your side and I may have a solution..... Take my pigdog with you

And if you go camping, living like a neanderthal for a few days gives quite a feeling of...........freedom.
I meant to comment on this last night - you understand completely :) The 3 months I was homeless and camping in the bush on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria was the time I remember feeling most free in life. It felt very liberating and had me question why I don't do this on a permanent basis. I've got cats who depend upon me and as they have saved my life on more than one occasion, I repay that debt with love as best I can. They follow me to the ends of the earth, which is both lovely and frustrating. Ideally I would like to find a place to live where they can roam free with me again like they used to when they were kittens.

Cats loving the bush

The house I lived in before moving into town had bushland behind it. Every day I would go and collect kindling and wood to saw and split, and they would follow me. They loved being out there in the woods and dislike being in town as much as I do. I'll never forget when Coca(brown Burmese) let out the most ferocious growl I have heard and my senses had detected nothing (which is rare). What was she growling at? A big male kangaroo hidden in the woods! It hopped away when it heard her growling. Kangaroos can be quite dangerous - they have a claw that can disembowel you and like to attempt to drown their prey if they feel threatened and in or near water.

Haha a Golden Retriever pigdog? I'd love to take this 'ferocious' dog with me but alas he is staying home. I'll have my own alarm system set up in camp :)

Two sets of clothing is not 2 sets of socks and underwear! Even though (as the salesman boasted) bamboo underwear can be worn for a week without being changed(and that doesn't include turning it inside out :P) I will be taking multiple pairs of each :) Two sets of clothing = 1 x cargo pants, 1 x jeans, 2 x t-shirt, 1 x long-sleeve shirt and 1 x khaki jacket.

Treasure: Regarding the electronics you plan on taking with you, have you thought on how to charge them in case they run out of battery or something? (And especially as gaming on phones/tablets tends to drain a whole lot of battery and Mother Nature doesn't tend to provide electricity and charging spots...) After all, you wouldn't want to remain without a phone out in the wild (especially as your partner might get very worried)... If I were you thus, I'd make sure to take the chargers appropriate for each kind of device with me and find a place near the forest or something where the devices could be charged (maybe a hostel or something...).
*snip*
I will be within walking distance of the town of Eden. I know the town very well as my family on my mother's side is from there, and I have been visiting it since I was a child. None of them are left there now as my grandfather passed away last year. Part of this journey is so I can finally visit his grave. I miss the old bugger so much. He and his sister (who died in 1993) were the only family members who have shown me love, regardless of what I do; whether I am working or not, struggling or doing well. If it wasn't for those two I doubt I would understand the concept of love for another human being or have a desire to do 'good'.

So yeah, I know where to recharge, where I can grab a shower for free, access the internet etc. I'll also be visiting an oesteopath who has worked on me before to put my back and neck in place so I will be less prone to injury when carrying my pack and tent out to the bush.
