Roman5: Me: GOG games are worth buying, check out Wing Commander 4 and these cool extras
Pirate: Old games are not worth paying for! Why should I pay GOG any money? GOG doesn't do anything! GOG just repackages games and rips off people!
Me: Really? Alright, find me a torrent for Wing Commander 4, download all of the disks, get it to Run on Win7 and then find for me all of the Extras that GOG offers
Pirate: Ehrm....Well...Uhhh..."pirates the GOG release"
Lol@your contrived dialog.
I love when people manufacture dialog to highlight some point and stilt it in such a way that the side they're criticizing has a lame set of responses.
It would be more like:
Me: GOG games are worth buying, check out Wing Commander 4 and these cool extras
Pirate: The quality of the game doesn't increase how "worth buying" it is. It increases the value you get for your money. It also increases the value you get for pirating it.
Me: Really? Alright, find me a torrent for Wing Commander 4, download all of the disks, get it to Run on Win7 and then find for me all of the Extras that GOG offers
Pirate: No problem. Look here. The GOG torrent has all that.
See? I gave more sensible replies and the dialog *still* looks like I diluted the intelligence of the "me" character. Yet we all know I didn't because I literally used the stuff you wrote for yourself, thinking it was smart.
If you guys want to rail against piracy, go for it. But at least be logical about it.
You'll have to explain why piracy is wrong despite:
-it's irrational to put a company above yourself.
-pirating games means free games.
-in general, pirated games are superior to purchased games because they have their DRM removed which in many cases can be crippling.
(this point is obviously in GOG's favor since they don't allow DRM, which is why I love them)
-day 1 DLC can go **** itself.
-companies that release buggy games do not deserve anyone's money.
-the torrent protocol is a more logical distribution method. and most companies have not adopted it. therefore people should seek a channel that does utilize it, allowing them to saturate their connection. Steam may saturate your peasant connections. not even close to mine.
-citing stupid things like morals/ethics just means you're parroting corporate anti-shoplifting policies, which are designed to promote company growth so that shareholders don't just sit on an even balance. thinking it's actually "wrong" is childish and means you've been brainwashed.
I buy games from GOG because they have a pro-consumer mindset and have really slim margins. They don't take a huge cut like Steam. AND because I'm wealthy and retired. If I was not, then I would pirate them as well. As it is, I buy a game if it's on GOG. Or if it's a Blizzard title or something like Portal or Borderlands 2, that have enticing non-LAN'able multiplayer.
Also:
-you'll have to justify why you want to give a ton of money to publishers rather than developers.
-you'll have to justify why you want to subsidize an industry where consumer education is as corrupt as companies like gamespot and ign.
You guys are mostly unknowing corporate shills and corporate profit-seeking propaganda parrots.
You don't actually have rational reasons to be anti-piracy. For the most part, you're simply emotional children.
