Saw what you did there, tsk tsk that quick edit :p

On topic:

I think we'll need a "What has just been resurrected" thread.

tinyE: Did that guy seriously pull a 3 year necro just to be a dickhead?

There are easier way
Nope, I'd say that this is about the easiest way to pull a 3 year necro... Ahhh... Oh right... Never mind :-P

Bradley, I hate to sound like an adult here, but if a dev and or a distributor were to ever wander in here and see you talking about the joys of pirating they would immediately and forever completely cut off GOG from their seller list. Therefore what you are doing is a direct attack on the productivity and continued success of GOG which makes you a very serious problem in here.

And before you mention all the dirty jokes and other nasty things I do (which I do A LOT of), that stuff might make the forum uncomfortable from time to time but it's not a direct threat to GOG sales.

Well, those publishers who removed their games from here, totally reserved an up. Fallout or guilty gear, anyone? And i immediately stopped sharing those when they returned. Plus, i NEVER, ever, upped anything from all those 95 items in my account shelf. Most of which are bought with cash and not always during cheap sales...

Don't counting the giveaways of course, some of which were rebought (i felt like buying Mortal Kombat 2 times, to celebrate their coming here).

Hurting sales, you say, interesting...

You are missing the point. Devs don't care where you pirate games from, they care that you pirate them period, and they aren't going to open themselves up to a site where pirates frequent.

Well, i am a multiclass pirate/necromancer/ninja, level 8/7/9. I am bad for company, ill for frequenting a place and i admit it. Nothing i can do about. I am rogue too in every sense. Low charisma stat. And low reputation. Party of one. And chaotic neutral. I cannot learn the charm category of spells. I can deal with it, somehow.

I know this is necro thread, but I had a thought...

Of course, pirates gonna pirate. But I wonder if anyone knows of industry studies or research on whether DRM'd games actually have higher piracy rates than DRM-free games. I know there are many factors involved such as game popularity, pricing, etc... but a clever study might be able to account for these factors and provide evidence of the futility and damage that DRM might do to sales.

I hope the general consensus here is that installer watermarks are both DRM and personal information security risks. Vote "no" on this necro ;)
Not only watermarking or attempting to identify a specific installer can easily be considered DRM, it's also completely useless

The GOG installer can be unpacked and the original game files are NOT watermarked or identifiable in any reasonable way, unless someone decide to install a trojan with any GOG game of course

Yes it's exactly good as it sounds, won't work either mind you but it a far more logical solution then watermarking or attempting to identify a single user by an ID or something

If someone feel sceptical about the futility of attempting to track down an user with the installer, i would suggest to look for steam "DRM-Freed" copy available on internet, or games like the recent DA:I that contain no less then 3 different DRM to work

If i remember correctly the protection where rendered useless the same day as the game was released, and the "fixed" files released two day later pretty much everywhere

Feel free to replace steam with U-play if you prefer, like what happened with AC2, same story, the bypass become so famous that even blogs unrelated to games mentioned it at the time
I don't really have a problem with it. People still buy the product if the service is good and easy to use. Which GoG excels at IMO.

I have given out my GoG installs to my friends, its the same principle just on a larger scale. It will always be a thing since GoG installers are DRM free and its very easy to just share the install files.

EDIT*

Bloody 3 year old threads.

And yet i wonder if it's almost a form of advertisement. Consider, some games or programs hacked might include things still you don't want... Others might just be/include malware or Trojans. In comparison you KNOW GOG games are completely clean.

And if someone tries a GoG pirated game and love it, they are more likely to try another or buy them from the store. In comparison to issues we have with other services, namely Steam/UPlay/Origin.
