I think that after this post, I've finally caught up and responded to all non-house-claiming topics which were directed to me or which I found noteworthy. If you are waiting for a response from me which isn't related to house-claiming, I've overlooked it, so please ask again.

Vitek: I got also thrown off by dedo's rudeness in his argument and I started to doubt it all, but then why should I doubt myself because of him but then what if all of it was built on wrong premise and gah, I don't know.
Joe? Is that you?

avatar
nmillar: It's also interesting to see who voted after Trent claimed, as I think the scum in this game are from outside Hogwarts?
He claimed Ravenclaw in #351. The votes which came after were Joe, dedo, GH and Lift.
What do you make of that?

avatar
GymHenson: So then why mention it and also "clear" dedo as town?
Since nmillar didn't see fit to answer this, but I thought the same, and figure that if you're town, it's worth spelling it out explicitly: dedo claimed Slytherin very early, in #131. Scum trusting at that point that Slytherin would be assigned to Town to such a degree as to go for that gambit, would be extremely ballsy play.

That doesn't mean nmillar couldn't be scum trying to look good by backing up dedo (Joe speculated as much in #365), but it does mean that town!nmillar has reason to explicitly town-clear dedo.

avatar
GymHenson: either they NK me and draw attention to themselves re: my suspects list, or they let me live and I possibly hone in more on them and pick them off, one by one.
Or if you're wrong, they let you live so you keep focusing on the wrong people, or they NK you to draw attention to non-scum.

phaolo: What would be the advantage of breadcrumbing for scum exactly? They could just report it in the next night..
Getting information to fellow scum a day early, to help drive the "correct" mislynch - and to make certain fellow scum have the information in case their investigation role gets lynched.

avatar
phaolo: We need both Micro and Catte to explain WTF they were doing..
avatar
Microfish_1: toDay and toNight are simple. They refer to the Day and Night phases of this game. I use toDay etc to refer to the current Day phase of this game, and toNight to refer to current Night phase (n1 vs N2 etc).
FWIW, backing up micro that the toDay/toNight thing is a relatively common convention.
avatar
blotunga: I did say that Joe didn't had the scummy vibe he usually has, even when town. Seems he was a power role (PR). It might be WIFOM but maybe someone from Joe's voters found it misleading enough to NK him? Later I'll look into this.
5 days later: Did you?

Ok, but.. wouldn't that happen only if an incorrect wagon for scum already existed?
It doesn't make sense in the current situation, it would just be dangerous for them.

gogtrial34987: FWIW, backing up micro that the toDay/toNight thing is a relatively common convention.
Ah ok.

Btw, the houses discussion seems a bit far-fetched to me.
At the start ZFR explained to me that all the story is just fluff without any connection to the actual game..
I imagine that he simply assigned the roles randomly.
avatar
gogtrial34987: He claimed Ravenclaw in #351. The votes which came after were Joe, dedo, GH and Lift.
What do you make of that?
Well, dedo is cleared for me as he's a fellow Slytherin, and Joe's dead too, which leaves GH, who I'm already voting for. Lift could be scum too, especially with that strange quick lynch.
avatar
gogtrial34987: Which specific thing nmillar said are you agreeing to here? I scanned all his posts on the page before #492, and I have no idea what you mean with "such early claims". Is that in reference to my house-claiming proposal?
This post also doesn't make any sense to me as a response to GH's post which you quoted...
Seems like I mis-understood something, I was on the phone and likely just skimmed.

avatar
gogtrial34987: 5 days later: Did you?
I did, nothing really stood out.
avatar
blotunga: Yes, it's about the house claiming. He is also clearly against it.
avatar
nmillar: No, I haven't expressed a preference about this one way or the other.
So, could you please express a preference?

Same question for the three of you: are you for or against a mass-house-claim?

Possible scenario: scum have a rolecop, which has found a cop. If said cop is pushed to L-1, he'll claim, and has a high chance of being protected by a doctor at night, meaning scum can't safely NK him. Hence, scum would want to stay away from voting this cop, and that's something which that scum rolecop would want to tell his buddies about. There's other similar scenario's as well. I can't think of any way for us to know if any such scenario's would or wouldn't make sense in the current situation. Can you?
Since people have been asking me this, I'd like to clarify a few things.

_ You may post your Houses. Rule 11 specifically allows it.

_ A PM, as shown in post 1, is made up of the following:

Hi, nick. You are Name, House/School, Modifier/Role/Faction.
[Extremely hilarious flavour fluff.]
Non-flavour version:
[Technical explanation of your role and win conditions.]

I've bolded what's not fluff. And italicised fluff.

So, as you can see, strictly speaking House is not fluff. "Oho" on whether Houses and Names are relevant, and if yes how.
Mafia come from Salem Institute of Witchology; they don't have Houses. "Oho" on what kind of preparation SIW students got on arrival.
Third-party factions if any, may or may not be from Hogwarts and may or may not belong to a House. "Oho" on anything related to third-party factions.

Could you go back and point out what you misunderstood? Was it something someone else posted which you misattributed, or something nmillar posted which you misinterpreted?
(Just trying to get a better feel for your thought process here.)

Ah come on stop riding the same broom
Given ZFR's statement about houses not being fluff, any changes in willingness to mass-house-claim from anyone?

I'm sorry, did nmillar express his strong anti-claim stance to you in daychat and were you hoping this slip would just go away on its own? No such luck, I'm afraid.

I'll pencil in "unwilling to provide clarification" into my notes then, shall I?
avatar
gogtrial34987: So, could you please express a preference?
I assume that you're asking if I'm on board with everyone else claiming their house, since I've already stated that I'm Slytherin?

In which case, yes, I'm all for it, especially as it has now been confirmed that they're not entirely fluff.
avatar
gogtrial34987: So, could you please express a preference?
Same question for the three of you: are you for or against a mass-house-claim?
Mildly for.
I'm ok with posting my house, even if I'm not sure about the usefulness, since anyone can just lie..

Ok, what have I missed here? What exactly prevents dedo from lying and claiming to be Slytherin?

Vitek: And if we end up with, say, 3 people per house what does that tell us?
That the scum players very likely are divided over the houses, so successfully lynching a scum would give town-leans to the other two players from the same house. (Not enough to rely on, but definitely something to take into account.) And yes, it's possible that ZFR has divided the players over the houses in a lopsided manner, so all scum could cluster together in the same house; but would they dare? Likely only if they managed to arrange for themselves to be at the very end of the claiming...
