Update 1.2 brings Universal Cloud Saves, the option to fully customize the Client to your needs, and much more!

NOTICE: The update is now live for everyone. Make sure to check it out and tell us what you think!

GOG Galaxy, our gamer-friendly Client, is coming out of beta with a major new update that greatly improves and enriches the user experience by introducing many long-awaited features. Let's take a closer look at some of them:

The highlight of Update 1.2 is, of course, the Universal Cloud Saves. This new feature makes it possible to add cloud saving functionality not only to new games but also to titles that never offered cloud saving before. Thanks to this, excellent games like Planescape: Torment, Heroes of Might & Magic® III, or Vampire®: the Masquerade - Bloodlines gain the benefits of saves syncing and cloud backup for the first time ever. Of course, if you prefer to keep your precious saves close at hand, your data is still saved locally for you to use, while GOG Galaxy also lets you download a backup of your saves at any time.

This huge Update introduces the option to customize the Client to your needs by selecting which features you want to use. In addition, there is a brand new hibernate mode that cuts down on Client CPU usage while playing a game and saves resources as well as battery life when idling in the background. We also went through the GOG Galaxy community wishlist and packed Update 1.2 with some of the most-requested features, including bandwidth limiting and scheduling, FPS counter, screenshot capturing, a sleek in-game overlay, achievement rarity, desktop and in-game notifications system, a new chat, and more!

The GOG Galaxy Update 1.2 is now available for all users. To download GOG Galaxy or see what’s new and improved visit GOG.com/Galaxy.
If you run into any issues, feel free to submit them here.
That's what i call an update. Impressive GOG.

micktiegs_8: Is the option for developers to slap on their game update available? I don't just mean select devs, but all of them. This could help a little with games being outdated all the time.
You are SO absolutely right. Unfortunately in most cases GOG does not do very much to change this fact. I mean things like telling them "Hey devs, we are selling your product so don't treat our own customers worse than the ones omn steam". I know that the devs are their customers but does that have to meanb that they are not allowed top care for their own customers (meanung us)? I know of several cases were devs or publishers simply told me that they just don't plan to update GOG even though the Steam version has been updated months or years ago. To be absoluteley honest: GOG's lack of really trying to get the actual version of their games is the one thing that I really don't like here.

Back to topic: Great update if everything will work as suggested. Still one thing missing here: You have the option to not create shortcuts on desktop but you don't have the option to turn those off in the start menu. Whenever a game will be updated it creates the menu shortcuts again so I have to delete them over and over.

Edit: And unfortunately it is not :( Just tried it with "The Witcher Enhanced". Cloud dyncing is running for about 8 minutes now (ongoing atm at 3%), chat was not possible due to internet not being connected according to Galaxy and calling the overlay made my mouse cursor disappear. IN addition the FPS counter is only shown when the overlay (which is quite big) is shown as well rendering such an option nearly useless. Hopefully THIS will not be the same version they plan to release in April.

Still waiting for the Linux version, GOG. It's been ages, and itch.io has gotten a Linux client out in a ridiculously short time. Where's Linux Galaxy?
Question though. I just tested a game but can't figure out how to show the FPS counter WHILE playing?!
I can only access the fps counter when I alt+tab, but that doesn't really help ;D

Also please consider adding "sort by "Installed"" in your library, so that all your games that are actually installed on your system, appear at the top of the list.

MacabreHeart: Nice range of features, although we still really need that Linux support
Well, I don't. But if this is what it takes to get all missing Linux versions on GOG, I'm all for it!

And while we're at it, if this also means many Linux users discover that there's gaming life outside of Steam, all the better!

zahroc: Bring back ability to change Backup and download paths for "Backup and Goodies" and install directories as separate items.
I discovered this problem also. In Galaxy 1.1 there were 3 configurable directories.

1) Where you install games to
2) Where in-progress downloads download to temporarily
3) Where completed downloads are moved to

I configured all 3 to custom locations that are important to me, but now there is only one setting and I have no idea where the downloads go but hope that my previously configured directories are in tact and new downloads will continue to land there.

I'll hunt the Windows registry to see if they've just moved the setting from the UI but it still exists in the registry perhaps. Still, I hope the removal of these options is an oversight and will be fixed in 1.2.1 hopefully.

Things are looking pretty good so far other than this caveat though.
Hey Everyone :)

I am excited by the Universal Cloud Save feature to be implemented across all of GOG.COM games.

I have been putting steam first in many cases due to Steams Cloud Save feature. With Cloud Save now comming accross all games on GOG.COM It means. ...

I can now play my Classic RPG games with confidence of not loosing my progress after a hiatus of play. I have not finished many games due to loosing saves for one reason or other so cloud saving is the feature that was very dear to me.

I ended up buying Pillars of Eternity on steam because of the cloud save feature offered there. But the tide has now turned towards DRM Free :)

Thanks to all the gog.com team for making this happen.

Much appreciated.
The new version has also removed the ability to set the download path for backups and extras.

Edit: Yup, already mentioned above.

PCS_JEFF: Great and grats !!!

I love Steam, I have thousands of games there, but they are many things missing in this client.

So it's good to have a competitive alternative so that one day it will push Steam to be much better.

So I frequently add some old games on my gog account and I love to see how much you improve.

Some things I would really like is :

- a chat system for the game you are playing, something like the game Crusaders of the lost idols, It helps to build a community. Steam has it but not on all games and it's quite hidden.

- a community shared "agenda" system where anyone could add events for a game he has bought, like that people could know when there is a multiplayer session, or chat sessions, etc. That would help some old game to build their community. We need the Facebook of gamers, steam hasn't take the role: you could do it :)

Also, it has nothing to do with GOGG, but there is a new Star Trek series coming: would be a good time to add a lot of Star Trek games you are missing.
Galaxy already has chat built in, including in-game for games which the overlay is compatible with. The event/agenda system you describe will no doubt come some point in the future but I imagine probably a long way off. We need user profiles and things like that first to further grow the social networking infrastructure that an event system like that would potentially build upon and interact with.

I suspect user profiles will be on the sooner than later side of things in terms of features mind you but that's entirely personal rampant speculation. :)

But... still no Linux version? Is it even in any way, shape or form in development?

So, Galaxy is now stable. Will you now at last document the API (as you promised in the past), release the client for Linux, and may be even open source it?

Yes, it is already mentioned but it cannot be mentioned enough.
GOG, bring back the possibility to set download path for backup and extras!
I just don't get it. They are applauding themselves calling this a full version and still they are doing so much wrong. How could anybody even think that it would be a good idea to offer less features in the "full" release than in the beta? Add to this the many things that just are not working and I am beginning to doubt that this will ever be a fully working optional client ... sorry that I have to say such harsh words but the disappointment of the reality after having read what the client should be in theory was just too big :(

karnak1: Good thing that it's leaving Beta.

But don't forget, GOG: Galaxy must remain ALWAYS OPTIONAL.

I'm a Galaxy user but I have to rely on GOG installers for my netbook when I go to places with lousy or no net connection.
As a long time customer, occasional Galaxy user and friend of the general idea of gog Galaxy: I endorse this message. Keep it optional please.

GOG.com: Of course, if you prefer to keep your precious saves close at hand, GOG Galaxy also lets you download a backup of your saves data at any time and use it as you see fit.
Why doesn't it simply do both? This sounds like if I start a game that uses cloud saves, and I want to continue it later at a time when I won't have an internet connection, I have to remember to manually download a backup of my save data beforehand. If this is the case, the cloud save functionality seems pretty useless.
