Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

As a followup to my Is there a way to keep Galaxy maximized on startup? post above, I have figured out a way to make it work that is pretty simple thankfully. The trick is to go into Galaxy settings and disable "close to systray" temporarily if you have it enabled. Then maximize the Galaxy window, then hold down CTRL+SHIFT while you click on the upper-right [x] to close the window. Apparently this tells Windows to remember the window's maximize state. Then open Galaxy again and it does indeed appear to start up maximized, YaY! Then you can go back in settings and tell it to close-to-systray again if desired and the maximize will stick around between restarts.

Would be nice if GOG would make it do that by default though. Nonetheless, problem solved with a sledgehammer. 2 for 2 today... :)

skeletonbow: Ok, it's a glitch then, try doing an account refresh then waiting a bit to see if it clears up on its own, it might take an hour or so:

https://www.gog.com/account/refresh
It resolved by going through Forum Replies to this post. Huh.

Regarding the question of minimizing/maximizing Galaxy I still don't understand why GOG is handling the minimize state of Galaxy so ... well ... dumb.

Now if you minimize Galaxy it will go into the taskbar no matter what. If you close it it might go to the tray or closing completeley depending on what was chosen in the settings. Why don't they simply say that clicking minimizing sends Galaxy to the tray while closing acually closes Galaxy. Is there really a need to minimize into the taskbar? Is there really a need for this additional "do not close if closed" option? I don't think so. Minimize is for minimizing and closing for closing - that is why these buttons are called that way OMG.

but many of the game client softwares work like that when you close you close to tray and minimize minimizes to the taskbar. steam, origin and uplay do it. there are also other software that does that, it's not unique to GOG and its not dumb.

O.K. - if it is not dumb then please explain to me what you still need the minimize button for. Only because other clients do the same does not make it any better or less dumb.

So I can minimize the software to taskbar (not system tray) and still be able to view at a glance what the program is doing (download indicator, temperature indicator, new alerts etc). Having an option to toggle minimize to taskbar/systray and close to close/minimize is always appreciated though.

Programs of this nature generally default to the following settings by design upon fresh installation unless the user changes their configuration either during or after installation:

- Starting at OS startup time or user login time.
- Placing an icon in the systray, and running in the background until activated.
- Opening the UI up when the user clicks or double-clicks on the systray icon, coming onto the taskbar.
- Closes the UI and remains in the systray running in the background when the user closes the program via menu, [x] close button, ALT-F4.

Programs that do this by design include most if not all gaming clients, many torrent downloader programs, and a lot of other software. I'm not suggesting that every single program ever made that is in one of these (or other) categories does this universally like it is a black or white yes or no thing that all or none do, but a generalization that it is the most common thing for these types of programs to do. The reason why it is the most common default, is that software configuration defaults are intended to be what the average typical user expects, and this is for the most part what the average typical user expects.

Naturally default options chosen by software vendors will not match the needs or expectations of all possible users by default as that is practically impossible because different users have mutually opposing needs and/or preferences. The sensible thing to do is to default to what the majority of users expect or would like to have happen, and allow a way for other users to reconfigure the software to cater it to their own special needs and preferences.

So no matter how an application sets its default behaviour on issues such as this, there will automatically be users who do not like the defaults and want it to work a different way. That is completely unavoidable in software development over matters such as this. What is important is that these types of things are configurable, and that it makes the most sense to set the defaults to be what the majority of the userbase desires or expects, which in turn is often based on what similar software does historically because that is what users of such software have come to expect as the default behaviour.

If the defaults were what you are asking for, there would be a multitude of people flooding GOG with feedback to change the behaviour back to the way it is now which would vastly dwarf the noise made by more casual users and/or purists, so I doubt they're likely to change these defaults personally. All gaming clients, instant messaging, voice/video chat, torrent clients I've ever installed default to starting at OS startup time, putting an icon in the systray to manage them while they are backgrounded, and default to "close" meaning "close into the background" rather than "close down all traces of application running in memory".

Even though I do not personally like every one of these type of programs starting at OS startup time and/or minimizing to tray by default either, it completely makes sense to me that this is the default behaviour because the typical user expects that to be the default behaviour, so it should be.

It's generally trivially easy to go into the settings of any application like this and toggle the option to disable OS startup launching, systray backgrounding, etc.

The nature of default configuration settings is that they can not be set to both options simultaneously so that everyone is happy with the default. Someone has to change it, like it or not, and that means the smallest group ends up being the one to have to change it to the opposite of what the largest group prefers the default to be. :)
One thing I also forgot to mention... As a software developer myself, one thing I have learned over time is that advanced and/or even just knowledgeable users can and will look through an application's settings/preferences screens to try and find an option they are looking for to change the default behaviour of the application. As long as the feature is actually configurable they will probably find it easy enough and be able to change the program's behaviour to match their preference. However, a newbie user, or someone who hasn't developed the best computer skills yet will be much more likely to not even know that they even have the possibility to change the behaviour of the program via configuration, nor how to go about doing that. These are the people who need to get their "computer guru" to come over and help them.

Ideally, computer software defaults should be set to match the majority of users, and to cater to non-advanced users as they're the least likely to be able to figure out how to make the software do what they want, however skilled/advanced users will most likely figure out on their own how to reconfigure the software even if they're in the minority and gripe about it while doing so.

For the most part, this is the same reason why the majority of people who buy a car just stick with the default car radio that came with the car rather than replacing it with some custom radio/stereo system.

The heart of the matter is the KISS principle at work. :)

This. I use it by the way. When I'm downloading something or constantly going into the program I minimize to the task bar when I opened it but I'm not going to use it for a while I close it to tray so I don't have to open it again and can, in this case, easily launch games or any other task.

Other than web pages, the font rendering on Windows is bad. Fonts look thin and aliased, specially on game details page.

So maybe I am the minority here. But I would prefer the client to minimize in the tray when minimizing and to close when pressing X. Unfortunately there is now no option for this available.

In settings there is this, does it do what you're looking for?:

[✔] Quit Galaxy when closing the main window (disable minimize to tray)

No, I want to minimize in tray or close. With this option closing will close Galaxy but minimizing will still bring it to the taskbar.
