Lifthrasil: Hey, elcook. Any news from the 'wish restoration' front?
avatar
Breja: It's tough going even for GOGs elite forces, the site has way too many bugs.
"too many bugs" and you post the one shot from that movie with one ONE bug in it. :P

That's a bug. It was supposed to be one of those pictures with thousands of bugs.

elcook: Hey all! Thanks for bringing this up!
So let me clarify, we're not stepping back from GOG Galaxy being optional - the client is optional and will remain like that. The situation we have here, with the merge of both wishes is a bug. We're investigating what happened and will try to restore it to the previous state.

I wish I'd have any update on that front, but I don't have any :/ The good thing is I didn't forget about that, and I'm bugging (pun intended) our Website guys about it every now and then. Will definitely update you when I know something.

what does "bugging" mean? do you see some random web developer in the bathroom every so often and say "yo what about that one link about the wishlist entry?"

do you send an email to the head of their web development? what do the emails say?

how many times have you brought it up to them?

what do they say to you when you bug them about it?

"HAHAHAHAHA!!!! just tell them you don't know anything, k?"

or what?

do you just get ignored?

what a joke

Am I the only one that thinks that elcook's bugging of the web-devs won't make a difference?

thomq: [...] Clue: The original description obviously wasn't that great anyway, otherwise no one would have marked it as a duplicate of another. [...]
Source?

thomq: [...] Just try again and make a new wish already… Otherwise the actual wish itself doesn't really matter to you.
The wish was going since early 2015, and had over 2K votes. How does wanting that status back and visible on the Community Wishlist mean that the wish itself doesn't really matter to russellskanne?

If you need help bugging their office to supervise if they work at all, I know a guy who's good with electronics!

tinyE: GOG deleted my wish to be able to delete wishes.
Damn, this was my favourite wish.
While I like Galaxy, I REALLY hope that it will remain optional...

ya, I think their "work" consists of writing down the bugs and then re-reading the list over and over and over, rather than doing anything about anything on the list

I mean, what the fuck are they doing? the evidence shows:

NOTHING

btw I don't figure I'll get a reply to my questions posed to elcook because I didn't kissass while forming them

To be fair they must have fixed at least two bugs in the last few days: the one that caused the main page to display random languages and the missing number of ratings in the store pages. There's a lot of issues with the website, and a single item on the whislist is probably very, very low on the priority list. Besides, they never gave a deadline for the fix, so I wouldn't expect it anytime soon.

But on a more positive note, that Galaxy would remain optional was promised many, many times by the staff, and Elcook further reiterated that in post 52. Isn't that what really counts in the end?

Not really. GOG promised a lot of things in the past. Even with promotional videos.
-Only complete games (no DLC nonsense)
-Free extras
-No regional pricing
-No region locking
-completely optional Galaxy (it isn't for many multiplayer games)

So promises and statements don't mean much. Or in other words: GOGs promises only count as much as we as a userbase make them count. If the outrage is big enough when GOG tries to break a promise, GOG will row back. (example: forced Galaxy downloads) If the outcry isn't big enough to threaten their sales, then the 'promise' will be broken sooner or later. Like every other promise they made. So let's keep reminding them that plenty of users WANT Galaxy to be optional and let's hope that we are numerous enough to make GOG keep that one promise, at least for single player.

This.

Just look at the "promise" to give us the option to set the classic installers as the default ones :P

Three years ago they told me rep would be gone in six months. :P
GOG promised many things in the "6 community members to GOG HQ" event.
But...did we see any bug get fixed after that?
