Ciris: Hello, everyone!
To make these General Discussion forums work better (especially with the anticipated influx of new threads popping up after The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt releases this Tuesday), we will be merging all threads that have not seen a new post in 2015 to a
General Discussion Archive, accessible for viewing, but not for further posting or rating posts.
What’s hiding under “work better”? As I understand it, the forums will load faster (as there’ll be less pages to count), search will be less overloaded (and not bring up threads that have been inactive since 2010 if you don’t want to see them), and it will be easier to keep track of what’s going on.
It will not be an instant process, but rather a gradual one we plan to start and complete over the course of this weekend. I will update you all on Monday with the results - and to confirm that all is done :)
Great, I've now lost all the favourited threads I have. Sure they're still there in the archive, but I have to find them now and that's easier said than done when I can't remember WTF they're called. And we can't post in threads over 5 1/2 months old? That's also a bit crazy.
GOG, you seem dead-set on breaking everything at the moment.
VanishedOne: So instead of necro-ing a thread like
http://www.gog.com/forum/general/pc_metroidvaniasrougelikes/page1 someone would have to create a new one in order to add to it? Closing every thread that hasn't had posts in the last
four and a half months seems inconveniently restrictive.
Aha, and that was one of my favourited threads! You're right, it makes no sense to close a thread like that since it's meant to be an ongoing list that people can add to. It's not like development on those genres has completely stopped!
By the way, thank you for saving it!
Ciris: And as for the start of the year being a too early cutoff line for discussions, if you stopped a forum conversation for almost half a year, it seems to me like it's likely a new thread would form instead of continuing that old one :)
Nope, that point had already been shot down before you made it. Things like the Metroidvania thread were very slow but long running archives.
