Hello, everyone!

To make these General Discussion forums work better (especially with the anticipated influx of new threads popping up after The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt releases this Tuesday), we will be merging all threads that have not seen a new post in 2015 to a General Discussion Archive, accessible for viewing, but not for further posting or rating posts.

What’s hiding under “work better”? As I understand it, the forums will load faster (as there’ll be less pages to count), search will be less overloaded (and not bring up threads that have been inactive since 2010 if you don’t want to see them), and it will be easier to keep track of what’s going on.

It will not be an instant process, but rather a gradual one we plan to start and complete over the course of this weekend. I will update you all on Monday with the results - and to confirm that all is done :)

May moving TW3 threads into The Witcher subforums be more appropriate?

Please preserve hyperlinks in some way. It'll be a crime against the community if human-readable urls are mangled and quotes don't link to quoted posts.

So instead of necro-ing a thread like http://www.gog.com/forum/general/pc_metroidvaniasrougelikes/page1 someone would have to create a new one in order to add to it? Closing every thread that hasn't had posts in the last four and a half months seems inconveniently restrictive.

Especially now that http://www.gog.com/forum/the_witcher_3_wild_hunt exists. It's the Galaxy threads (all these 'friend me!' thingies) that lack a natural home outside General.

I can see the use of this, but every thread before 2015 seems a bit short of a timespan. Please consider also:
- merging all these friend threads
- making a galaxy forum
- moving all the Witcher 3 threads
- optimizing the search engine to show the results with newest relevant thread first and not this strange mix we have at the moment where often ancient threads show up at the top

That would probably help a lot ;-)

Ciris: Snip....
While we're at it, could it be also possible to create a Galaxy dedicated forum between the general and german/french/russian ones? This section would hold all the galaxy suggestions/problems/rants/social things/whatever.....

"General discussion" has been so overloaded lately with both galaxy/w3 threads that it's barely followable like it used to. (yeah, I'm traumatized by all those 0/1 rep people appearances, they just come and steal our bread ^o^)
Galaxy forum please...
changes... happening... necromantic powers... fading...
gaaaagh!

yyahoo: Galaxy forum please...
Thank you, I was about to search the wishlist section to vote on this. Voted!

I agree. Also moving posts from 2014 into 'archive' seems too radical.

Yeah there are probably some pretty important threads that had their last post in 2014. Perhaps they'll have to be updated at some point.

I suppose if the staff don't budge we could all go through our bookmarks and bump everything that looks still useful and serviceable. It would make a mess of the forum for a while, but it would save making continuation threads later.

This. The whole search engine is such a freaking waste of time as it is it's beyond belief. I have to say it's a bit worrying that they're looking to polish it up rather than work on getting a proper forum. (had the feeling they were here to stay when the wishlist showed up on hovering over the avatar) Then again, what do I know, maybe they can but until it has a useful search engine I'll remain highly skeptical.

Edit:
Ow, and please have the forum given an error message when the quotes are broken in some way rather than spend an eternity 'getting stuck loading' when you try to post it but not really doing anything.

Archieves are unecessary and may mess things up, instead create sub-forums!

Start one specifically for Galaxy.

Should there be a thread for something like "The Campaign to Save Useful Threads?" :P
