Looks like Gearbox has won out and now owns the Duke Nukem franchise wholesale, does anyone know what that means for GOG?

We're going to lose the Duke soon aren't we? :/

Maybe it means we're getting Space Cowboy Jack or whatever that game was called.
Duke leaving? Likely. Though I do hope they they instead decide to join the fray and sell some of their other games here. COUGHhomeworldremasteredCOUGH.

Is there anything new here that wasn't announced back in May?

Uh oh.

I never played any duke games but it's still disturbing to think about them leaving the catalog.

EDIT: still, if gOg can strike a deal with Bethesda, it's more likely that they can get Gearbox too.

Why would Gearbox remove them from here?

javihyuga: Why would Gearbox remove them from here?
Because afaik, they they aren't a publisher here, and considering Gearbox locked GOG request threads for Homeworld, it doesn't seem likely that they would want to play ball.

Anything can happen, but with Gearbox's track record they seem a lot less likely than even Bethesda.

I think I read somewhere that 3D Realms remains the owner of all older Duke Nukem titles?

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know they were so hostile. I mean, locking threads seems a little too much... Goodbye to the hope of GOG getting the expansion packs for Duke 3D :(

Good thing I already got them but it is pretty sad to see them go. They were the reason I joined this community.

Gearbox locked GOG request threads? What the hell? Even Bethesda never did that. (and in one thread on the Fallout forums, someone from staff actually wrote a nice reply, long before they joined GOG)

I wouldn't be surprised if they remove the titles from the catalog. Gearbox and Randy Pitchford are an odd couple. If you look at his comments to this day surrounding Aliens Colonial Marines, he's potentially lost it... and living in a reality where the game is thought of as good.

And that the whole switcheroo with the tech demo was an acceptable thing to do.

Do you have some sources for that, or links? All I found was this locked thread, which was only locked because of posters repeatedly violating forum rules: http://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/t/id-still-like-to-see-the-homeworld-games-come-to-gog-com/83014/54
Unlikely to happen, however it can't hurt to vote......

It's because their idiot mod considered discussion of DRM (or rather freedom from it) as discussion of piracy.
It doesnt mention anything about the old games, and the duke games are still listed on 3dRealms website.

Getting the rights doesnt mean all work done when someone else had the rights is now automatically yours, it just means you are the only person now allowed to use those rights in the future.

Of course it is possible to acquire all the previous games along with those righs as part of the deal, but it doesnt seem as though this is the case at the moment or previously - Gearbox did not have any problem with 3drealms claiming to own and listing the old Duke Nukem games as theirs for 4 years. The problem only happened when an attempt to make a new game with the new owners of 3drealms happened.
