Saints Row IV: I kicked off the year replaying saints row IV, this time along with their DLC's that I picked up in the steam sales. Hot damn the nuke superpower is OP, you're definitely paying for power there. The new mission DLC's themselves are average. The Christmas themed one is certainly Christmassy, but it definitely feels like something I only really want to play during Christmas. The Enter the Dominatrix DLC was alright. The missions were basic and to be honest I didn't like the pre-vis style cutscenes.

1.
01.01. - 04.01. / 22:30h
Asteria
This is what you get if you combine Metroid with Terraria. It's a fun game but later there is a lot of grinding and there a two parts which can only be beaten by trial and error. I hate that, a game should be beatable with logic and/or reflexes.

2.
31.12. - 11.01. / 16,44h
99 Spirits
A mix of RPG and Puzzle. Sadly this game is easy and the combat is boring. Only the story is interesting but I won't replay the game to get the other ending.

3.
12.01. - 14.01. / 5,27h
Alien Shooter 2: Reloaded
A fun and simple game. Kill everything that moves and that's it. At the end there's a decision to make but it felt quite random.
I might replay this game to get the other ending one day.

4.
30.01. - 01.02. / 4:35h
Quake
It was a great game back then and it's a great game today. Everything exept the animations aged surprisingly well.
I played the original, glQuake looks ugly.

5.
01.02. - 04.02. / 3:13h
Quake: Scourge of Armagon
New levels, monsters, weapons and music. This add-on is awesome.

6.
05.02. - 09.02. / 4,27h
Quake: Dissolution of Eternity
Not as good as the main game and first add-on but still fun. The music might be pretty bad but there is a DRAGON! So everything is forgiven. ^^

7.
22.01. - 02.03. / 86,39h
Avernum 3
Not as good as Avernum 2 but still a good game and a fine end to the trilogy.

8.
05.03. - 15.03. / 26:07h
Command & Conquer
This game aged surprisingly well compared to Dune 2 and WarCraft. I had fun most of the time but there were too many missions without base-building.

9.
15.03. - 20.03. / 5:52h
Hard Reset
A solid game, there's nothing amazing but also nothing horrible. Good graphics, good sound and fun weapons.

10.
20.03. - 22.03. / 3:10h
Hard Reset: Exile
A good DLC and it's free. Sadly there's still a cliffhanger ending.

11.
15.03. - 23.03. / 21:47h
Command & Conquer: The Covert Operations
A nice extension to the main game. No story but diverse missions.
You can command dinoaurs in one mission. ^^

12.
10.03. - 31.03. / 51:47h
I/O revision II
A Visual Novel that startet interesting but becomes boring pretty fast. I continued playing, hoping the story will become good again but I was disappointed.

13.
30.03. - 12.04. / 9:06h
Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter
I played the original version in the past and I remembered the game to be more fun. The levels all look the same, there aren't many different enemies and there are a lot of moments that are failed tries to scare the player.

14.
05.04. - 18.04. / 57:43h
Ayakashibito
A good Visual Novel. The story and characters were good and even most side characters are quite well described.

15.
08.04. - 25.04. / 23:09h
Bridge Constructor
I finished this quite good puzzle game at 100%. I even got every archivement except the facebook one.

16.
27.04. - 30.04. / 3:52h
Type:Rider
I learned a bit but mostly it was easy and boring.

17.
30.04. - 30.04. / 0:27h
Savant: Ascent
Finished the story-mode. The game was fun for that short time.

18.
01.05. - 01.05. / 1:09h
Syder Arcade
Finished the story-mode. This game was fun for that short time too.

19.
01.05. - 03.05. / 3:50h
Thomas Was Alone
A fun little game and I even got all the achivements. ^^

20.
04.05. - 04.05. / 0:13h
The Plan
Finished the game twice and I got all achivements... yay?

21.
03.05. - 30.05. / 46:11h
Blades of Avernum
Another nice game in the Avernum series. I liked the improvements of the engine.

22.
31.05. - 21.06. / 71:52h
Avernum IV
The first Avernum game that's not a remake. The graphic and sound were enhanced so I didn't have the desire to stab my eyes and ears with pointy tools anymore.

23.
23.06. - 02.07. / 10:56h
Betrayer
It started out great but sadly the game became boring after some time because it's always the same. Collect clues, talk to ghosts and do that while killing the same six enemy-types over and over again.

24.
04.07. - 05.07. / 4:26h
Downfall
A nice and point-and-click-adventure. Writing about the story whould spoil it.
The graphics where interesting and the sound did its job most of the time but I disliked the animations.

25.
09.07. - 13.07. / 8:51h
The Wolf Among Us
It alway felt like I should have read the comics because I felt quite lost in this setting.
Besides that I liked the main character and that it's more of a game than The Walking Dead.

26.
10.07. - 13.07. / 2:33h
Sakura Spirit
A short and boring Visual Novel. The only good point were the drawings. They should release an 18+ version. ^^

27.
12.07. - 14.07. / 9:23h
Dungeon of Elements
Dr. Mario with RPG elements. The game was quite fun and since there are two different endings I might replay it one day.

28.
02.07. - 19.07. / 9:47h
Duke Nukem Forever
One of the most hated games and I don't understand why. While whis game is nothing great it was fun enough.
I probably whould have loved it if I were still in puberty. I'm too old for this game.

Additional to my game time I've started to keep track of my deaths. Which gives me a figure I call "Deaths Per Hour" (DPH). I hope it gives a rough understanding of how hard I think the game is.

29.
19.07. - 20.07. / 4:50h / 10,76 DPH
Alleyway (Game Boy)
A Breakout clone. Somehow boring and addictive at the same time.

30.
20.07. - 20.07. / 0:40h / 10,50 DPH
Super Mario Land (Game Boy)
This was much easier than I remember it but it still is a fun game.

31.
20.07. - 21.07. / 2:21h / 5,96 DPH
Dr. Mario (Game Boy)
I never was able to beat the last few stages as a kid. Now I did it and since we are allegedly influenced by videogames I'm now a fully qualified doctor.

32.
21.07. - 25.07. / 6:12h / 12,10 DPH
Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge (Game Boy)
The first Mega Man game I ever managed to beat. I still think that beating this game gave me so many experience points that my gaming skill got quite a few level ups. (I could have invested those points into social abilities, but who needs those...)

33.
25.07. - 26.07. / 2:14h / 8,06 DPH
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (Game Boy)
Not as good as I remember it and I finally managed to beat Wario on the normal dificulty level.

34.

Mario's Picross (Game Boy)
I've solved so many Picross riddles by now that this game was no challenge. Still it was a nice trip into my childhood since this game was how I learned about Picross.

Mega Man II (Game Boy)
Not nearly as good as the first Game Boy game but still fun.

36.
09.08. - 10.08. / 3:50h / 5,22 DPH
Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 (Game Boy)
The best game of this series and it's still as fun as when I played it as a kid.

37.
13.08. / 0:33h / 5,45 DPH
Kirby's Dream Land (Game Boy)
Short and simple. In my memory the game was harder...

38.
13.08. - 14.08. / 3:17h / 21,02 DPH
Operation C (Game Boy)
The first Contra game I ever managed to beat. Luckily you can farm extra lives in this game.

39.
15.08. / 0:29h / 0,00 DPH
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan (Game Boy)
Short and very easy. It's not really a good game. Somehow all weapons have the same reach...

40.
15.08. / 1:24h / 10,00 DPH
DuckTales (Game Boy)
It's a fun game and I'm happy I finally managed to beat it because I failed as a child.

41.
16.08. - 20.08. / 14:22h
Wario Land II (Game Boy)
I didn't like this game as a child and I don't really like it now. I'm glad it's over and I hope part three is better.

42.
21.08. - 23.08. / 4:59h / 14,45 DPH
Mega Man III (Game Boy)
A good game. Better than the second one.

43.
23.08. - 24.08. / 5:15h / 7,05 DPH
Kirby's Dream Land 2 (Game Boy)
Much better than the first game. I finally found all the rainbow parts and killed the final boss. I never would have been able to defeat him as a child. He's MUCH harder than the rest of the game.

44.
24.08. - 30.08. / 3:02h / 14,18 DPH
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Back from the Sewers (Game Boy)
MUCH harder than the first game, I nearly gave up at the end. The last two levels... ugh...

45.
30.08. - 31.08. / 2:01h / 11,40 DPH
Toxic Crusaders (Game Boy)
Playable because of nostalgia. Besides that it's a pretty bad game.

46.
08.09. - 09.09. / 2:28h / 1,22 DPH
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (PC)
The second time I've beaten this game and it's still great. This game became one of my favorite games instantly.

47.
31.08. - 13.09. / 4:54h / 12,24 DPH
Double Dragon (Game Boy)
A fun game and as far as I know one of the very few nintendo games where you can beat up women.
The game gets very hard towards the end and those moving blocks are just unfair.

48.
13.09. / 1:25h / 24,71 DPH
Adventure Island (Game Boy)
A fun game. Beeing able to ride dinosaurs is always a plus. The game is not as hard as the DPH-value suggests and I will play the second part sooner or later.

49.
14.09. - 18.09. / 9:48h / 1,73 DPH
Remember Me (PC)
A fun and nice looking game. The only negative things I can think of. It's too easy and the ending made me cringe.
The end was only missing a sentence linke: "Today we've learned a valuable lesson." Which would be okay in a game for children but not here.

30.09. / 1:10h
Don't Move (PC)
Why did I even play this? It started out mildly fun a the beginning but became stupid very fast...

51.
05.10. - 09.11. / 52:28h / 0,06 DPH
Breath of Fire (SNES)
I wanted to beat this game for a long time and I finally did. Too bad it's just an average game, nothing really good, nothing really bad.

My 2013 list.
2014 Part 2

Does reaching and end on the stanly parable count?
Starting with Saints Row IV (04/I)
Bioshock infinite (21/I)

Had forgotten about this, but I finished Ittle Dew last week. And Rogue Trooper a couple weeks ago. And it's 21st of March today, for future reference.

I beat Zombie shooter 2 the 23rd of March, Cider house Hangover day. I also beat Alien Shooter 2 a few days later, wanted to see the difference and could hardly find it.

I also beat Far Cry 2 on the weekend of the 30th of March. It's amazing I managed to do this much while totally stressed out at work.

I beat Guacamele... 3 weeks ago I think, in Bratislava. That should make it the 20th of April. And Risen the... Thursday? after that. What a lame final boss there, BTW.

Sleeping dogs last Saturday, so the 1st of June I think.

My 2014 list. Last year was pretty slow compared to previous ones.

3/1 -- Risk of Rain (PC) - Cute, surprisingly addictive semi-roguelike action platformer. Loads of fun in coop.
19/1 -- Broken Age (PC) - Despite vowing to not touch Broken Age until the release of act two, I caved in almost immediately, and it was well worth it. Short and easy, but so much soul.
25/1 -- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3) - Uneven script and poor gameplay-to-story ratio let me down a bit, but overall the grand finale was satisfying. Peace Walker remains my favourite Metal Gear game, though.
6/2 -- Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (PC) - Highly amusing romp that feels like it's trying to distance itself from the Metal Gear Solid series. Look forward to more games in the series.
7/2 -- Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance: Jetstream (PC) - Challenging DLC featuring Brazilian samurai "Jetstream" Samuel Rodriguez. Enjoyed it a lot, but man, it was tough at times.
7/2 -- Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance: Blade Wolf (PC) - Stealth-focused DLC featuring AI dog sidekick Wolf. Not as interesting as Jetstream.
7/2 -- The Banner Saga (PC) - Like Shadowrun Returns, The Banner Saga feels slightly stripped in terms of design and content. And just as with SRR, I absolutely love this game. I am very much looking forward to the next chapter, whenever that will be released.
15/2 -- Final Fantasy XIII-2 (360) - Finally got all the achievements for this game. Not as good as the first game in the trilogy, but still well worth my time. I never managed to take down Gilgamesh, though - he is clearly tuned for true hardcore players who will spend weeks optimizing their build, something I do not have the patience for at the moment.
16/3 -- Shadowrun Returns: Dragonfall (PC) - Excellent expansion, but all in all I think I preferred the story of Dead Man's Switch. I do hope that the next expansion pack - should there be one - will bring more gameplay news to the table, however, as it is starting to get a bit stale.
11/4 -- SteamWorld Dig (3DS) - Cute little mining platformer that I bought because the creators are the only studio local to Gothenburg that I know of. It didn't exactly leave as deep an impression on me as the mining shaft I dug left in the earth.
24/4 -- Injustice: Gods Among Us (PS3) - Nice little fighting game. Short main story, but lots of multiplayer fun.
5/5 -- Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls (PC) - Nice expansion. I've enjoyed it very much so far.
17/5 -- Dear Esther (PC) - Steam version. Delightful little story. Very confusing.
20/5 -- SpaceChem (PC) - Without a doubt the most challenging game I've ever played. All I can say after three years of periodically obsessive playing, I've FINALLY FUCKING BEATEN IT!
3/7ish -- Wildstar (PC) - Well, I reached level 50. I'll probably stick around for a while longer, depending on how many friends remain and how the end-game content is.
5/7 -- Stick it to the Man! (PC) - Nice Psychonauts-inspired romp. Doesn't really stand out in any way, but the game is as much an interactive story as a game, and that's nice.
12/7 -- Infested Planet (PC) - Interesting take on the tower defence genre. Takes a leaf out of AI War's book, but is very much its own game. It doesn't really last past the campaign, however.
17/7 -- The Wolf Among Us (PC) - Very nice episodic game in the style of The Walking Dead (unsurprising as it's the same developer). Overall a tighter experience, although the puzzles have more or less been done away with. Very much looking forward to the other series being made by Telltale.
25/8 -- Depression Quest (PC) - Excellent exposition on depression in interactive form. Struck a lot of familiar notes with me.
3/9 -- Guacamelee! Super Turbo Champsionship Edition (PC) - Excellent extension of the base game.
24/9 -- Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut (PC) - Improves on the base campaign in pretty much every way. A must-play now.
1/10 -- Wasteland (PC) - Probably the oldest game I've ever played seriously, aside from the various Nintendo ports of their old games. The first one this old that I've beaten (with a walkthrough). Some nice ideas, but man, we have it so much better these days.
5/10 -- CONSORTIUM (PC) - What a strange, strange game. The prose falters a tad too often for my liking - the codex entries in particular are not very good - but this is one game that I will have to replay sometime, possibly even tomorrow.

I'd say yes, but ultimately It's up to you to decide.
