Kakarot96: Edit: The Riftbreaker has 6 offline installers: 2 "exe", 2 "1.bin" and 2 "2.bin" all with same names and sizes except for the exes which show a bit difference: 841032 bits vs 842288 bits. Weird, but nothing new with some offline installers in other games.
32/64 bit perhaps?
It's really great to see more demos for upcoming games, but I would really appreciate to have demos in a separate section of my library instead of them cluttering my games library.

Robette: ...
Totally agree.
Tagging them and hiding manually is definitely not good idea.

Cavalary: 32/64 bit perhaps?
Nope. both sets are called xxx(64bit)xxx exactly the same names. I don't think there's a 32 bit version, either but not sure, the minimum spec asks for Windows 8 so who knows.

IronArcturus: Yeah there's no way for it to work with Win7 with the current setup. I wonder if the game dev is aware of that.

Kakarot96: Hi, i have found this, from the developer:

"That means you need to update or instal your Microsoft Windows Media Foundations. Basically, it's a problem with a video codec. We are using a video library to play a video in the final game (which is not in the demo, but the library still is). That library is supposed to come with Windows, so it shouldn't be giving that error.

If you keep pressing OK in the dialog that appears, you will be able to bypass the error and play the game.
Unfortunately the demo gave me an infinite amount of error messages and I had to force the application to close. On the Microsoft website it said that MFCreateDXGIDeviceManager required Win8 or higher, so I'm not sure how the game could work in Win7.

Sorry it didn't work for you. In my case i was able to bypass the error in about 5-6 clicks.

I'm not 100% sure about the drivers it needed, i just copied the answer from the dev and then i looked at MS help and found that, apparently, in this pack for Win7 the needed drivers are included:

I'm assuming that the dev knows what he is saying and yes, i also have read in the MS docs about the MFCreateDXGIDeviceManager being for Win8 or higher. But dev talks about a Media Foundation codec and except for a couple of API that where introduced just for Win8, the rest comes from the times of Vista, so it's for the most part compatible with Win7.

Again, sorry it didn't work for you, and good luck if you try again.

Yep, about half of them say they expire Aug. 30 or Sep. 1 :(. But like Swedrami said I think they stay in your account if you add them by then.
avatar
IronArcturus: Has anyone else run into a bug where the green "Pay for your order" button is grayed out?
I see you fixed it but for anyone else the easiest might be to click "use wallet funds" if you have wallet funds or click and unclick the gift order checkbox.

GOG.com:
As much as I appreciate that more demos getting added on GOG it's about time to fix their handling. Demos should be tagged properly so that it's clear what is a demo and what not. And we should be able to add them to our accounts without having to "purchase" them and also be able to remove them.

Does anyone know why so many of these demos are time-limited? I don't understand why a demo would be artificially taken down early. A lot of people like to try a demo out before buying the full game.
Very happy to see The Riftbreaker here. Also As Far As The Eye looks very interesting.
I just tried Snowtopia and while a good idea for a sim game, it seems rather sparse. More like what I would expect to find in a "name your price" Humble Bundle. Hopefully the price will reflect that.

As Far as the Eye seems like it might have been designed as a board game and then made a bit more complex (a good idea if they did that). I quickly hit what looks like a bug: when another pupil joined my caravan none of them were able to build anything and I wasn't able to end the turn. The game claims a camp space is needed for the pupil to work and the new pupil has the "lazy" attribute that claims to need a space even when not working, however it seems like two puiils should still be able to work. If I need to assign camp spaces somehow the game gives no indication how I would do that. So I quit the game, then thought I would give it another try to see how I would like it assuming that was fixed but the game failed to start the next two times I tried. Having a time limited offer of a demo that doesn't work doesn't seem like the best way to build interest in a game :(.

Unlike "The Riftbreaker: Prologue", the Vesper demo works fine in Windows 7 64 even though it only shows Windows 10 in the requirements on GOG. As others have said the "Sword of the Necromancer" demo works fine after clicking ok through the errors. Unfortunately this is now becoming more common as UE4, Unity and other engines are updated. A lot of the indie devs I talk to don't even realize their demos don't work in Windows 7 64 until I mention it. They just aren't testing in that OS anymore. A few of them go back and fix it since at last count, according to ZDNet, there are still about 200 million Win7 installs globally. How many of those are gaming rigs is unknown of course. Windows 7 64 is still installed on my daily driver gaming rig as I like the simple interface of Win7. 10 is just a bloated mess imo, but I'm one who still has a Windows 98 gaming computer to play all those 1990s games I like that just don't work on modern machines.

Yep, it seems that GOG are up to their old duplicate files trick again ... or maybe it's the dev/publisher.
They did that recently with both ARMA games on release.
And it always seems to happen at the start of a weekend.

GOG, you have duplicate EXE and BIN files for The Riftbreaker.
Presumably it should be 3 files not 6.
