bjgamer: BTW, after your bakery comment we almost asked if you were having scones with Ol' Bessie, but as several players here were with you in that game we didn't want to clue them in. However, you don't even WANT to know where all your Pump 5 sent us looking! LOL!
avatar
nmillar: I figured from an earlier comment, you already had some idea what my role is?
You signaled investigative, we found a very similar style in you re:gunsmith before and it fit with the theme style this game seemed to be taking. That game also involved GH, Vitek and Eyeball, so we got a hint. The Pump 5 sent us all over Game 5, Post 19 and 89, this game's posts, it was hilarious. If we had just Googled it from the beginning instead of concentrating on Mafia games only ... but yes, after that was why we pushed Vitek harder.

I was quite pleased with that one. :)
We will try to check in one more time but should be going to bed somewhat soonish.

Also, confirmed by the mod - Bodyguard does have a gun.

Good to know. It's the only one of the three claims that would have a gun then.
I am busy today. Do we still have time?

bjgamer: Thank you, Joe.

avatar
JoeSapphire: no I was excited about it earlier this morning but now I just think it's nmillar being dumb. He must be genuinely a gunsmith because of the backup so yeah
avatar
bjgamer: "Some mods have also designed games with a Backup existing without the primary role present, which typically serves to sow seeds of misdirection about the setup for the individual player and sometimes the town if that player dies. A Backup in a game without a primary role present is essentially a Named Townie. ...

It is possible for a Backup role to exist without the corresponding original role existing, in which case it is impossible for the Backup Role to "turn on"; it will effectively act as a Vanilla role in most respects, but Rolecops will be able to see that it exists" - quoted from Mafiascum Wiki

Joe, you've been a mod/host. What do you think of this?
It'd be a good way to have a vanilla role in a game where you decided everybody had roles, but we know it's not the case here - nmillar's breadcrumbing is pretty watertight.

So the only way nmillar could be mafia is if the gunsmith is mafia, so town has to kill him to get the backup gunsmith. Which has an elegance to the mechanic, but I don't think it's fair for a moderator to expect town to lynch their top investigator role, so still it can't really be what's happening here.

nmillar: Same scenario. It would have disproved his claim if Gym did not have a gun.
avatar
bjgamer: One would think so. We're not quite sure where Joe was going with this.
well my point is you've disproved Gym's claim by finding he doesn't have a gun, so you've also proved that he can't be mafia because he doesn't have a gun so what was the point?

But, as I say, I was excited by the idea that this was some sort of contadiction a few days ago, now I think it's just a derp.

avatar
JoeSapphire: Catte claims doc with an early breadcrumb. I want to say there aren't two protective roles, but the breadcrumb and the observed night visit is hard to disbelieve.
avatar
bjgamer: "As a protective role, Bodyguard is essentially a weakened Doctor. ... As always, including multiple protective roles in the game can lead to broken role combinations. Doctor+Bodyguard can lead to circular protections ..." - quoted from Mafiascum Wiki

You are correct, there should be only one.

What conclusion do these points lead one to?
Well the bit you're quoting is refering to a more balanced setup, and this is role madness so I would think a doctor and a bodyguard could exist together. Except with a jailer as well? Probly not. So yeah, one of dedo and catte must be lying, probably both.
But do they both claim protective roles after the Jailer claim if they're working together? Does catte crow at dedo for not breadcrumbing if they're on a team? Maybe but it worries me...
But I have a habit of overthinking things and imagining horror scenarios that aren't really feasible.
avatar
bjgamer: Can you enlighten us on your thinking on this now? We assumed you did not want to give unclaimed ideas so did not ask you back then.
There isn't much more to say, really. I was thinking about how many stacked roles we have against a two-mafia team. Three potential killers (two of which are subjectively favoring us as they either kill scum or confirm Town), three potential gunsmiths, two potential investigators, two potential bodyguards, two potential roleblockers. That's a lot. There has to be something even if the setup doesn't have great balance. So I thought a bulletproof modifier might be that something where the Desperado shot results in a false negative and kind of works as if I Cop investigated a Godfather.

Usually it's normal to think of something or something to make a stronger impression on you if it's familiar to you already. At the beginning of the game nmillar brought up the bulletproof modifier in a line of questioning that didn't really make sense to me. And it was familiar to me because I also have the potential of getting that same mod so I made not of it. When the whole thing with Vitek and ZFR happened and roles/modifiers that were able to convert the Desperado result were brought up I thought that nmillar might have used it also because he was familiar with it somehow. So if he and Vitek are scum and they are in fact allowed to talk freely he might have been checking if Vitek can kill GH safely in case of need.

Such sort of things. The whole bulletproof line of questioning makes absolutely zero sense to me in the context it was given by nmillar. The bit where nmillar initially says Vitek wasn't in his room prior the ZFR shooting and only after he says he could have confirmed his claim is also weird.

It's quite complex line of events indeed and it's unwise to assume this over the simpler explanation that Joe and Catte are the scum but I do tend go into such "what-ifs" so possibly I'm just being paranoid.

So yeah, I do find it's a possibility but I wouldn't chase it in any way as it's unlikely. But if that's happens to be it and we lose I'll consider myself the winner for figuring it out and screw anyone who says otherwise :)

JoeSapphire: well my point is you've disproved Gym's claim by finding he doesn't have a gun, so you've also proved that he can't be mafia because he doesn't have a gun so what was the point?
The point was that if he had claimed a role that doesn't have a gun (e.g. Doctor), then this would contradict me finding a gun in his room, and I could call him out on it. Obviously, as he claimed a role that does have a gun, then I could not disprove this.

It was a gamble, but thanks to ZFR being trigger happy, it has been proved that Vitek is indeed town, so we are down to only 3 possible suspects, of which Catte's role seems the most likely to be genuine in my opinion.

And with a little bit of luck, I (or Vitek should I die) can now verify yours, Catte's and dedo's claims. Of the three, only dedo has claimed a role with a gun, so is the only one we would get an inconclusive result from.

With Gym, he obviously claimed a role that had a gun, so if I'd investigated him and found no gun, then I would have disproved his claim.

Ah, I see where you're going with this. He would have had to be a mafia role without a gun, so one that couldn't carry out an NK, or a third party. Otherwise, why would he lie? On reflection, I agree that Gym would have been a poor choice of target.
well okay then
I have a gun? I was not aware of that but mafiascum says it is traditional for gunsmith to have them so I guess it's true.

Vitek: I have a gun? I was not aware of that but mafiascum says it is traditional for gunsmith to have them so I guess it's true.
...did you think nmillar forced you to claim because he found no guns on you?
