WinterSnowfall: ...The remasters may end up being mobile-exclusive micro-transaction-ridden flops for all we know...
Well in the actual announcement, on EA's own site, they claim that there will be NO micro-transactions and that they are "bringing the franchise back to the PC". So at least those two things are sure to happen. Considering the bad reception C&C Rivals got, I doubt they'll try another mobile C&C game too soon.

Why wouldn't they, it's happened time and time again that companies repeat the same mistakes over and over either through sheer stupidity, or through bull headiness. I wouldn't be suprised if they put More micro transactions lootboxes, drm etc in just to spite those customers who complained about the previous one.

Because they announced that they wouldn't. I don't remember it ever happening, that a publisher claimed a game will be a conventionally priced PC release, only to them make it a mobile game with micro-transactions. Though I'll admit that if anybody would have the audacity to do such a thing, odds are it would be EA.

Well, there was the two worlds 2 expansion to name one.
Some of the people involved in this (including Jim Vessella, Greg Black and some of the Petroglyph guys) have been actively seeking fan feedback via reddit, Discord, forums and elsewhere. Its clear the creative leads for the project want to do this RIGHT and not just push out some half-assed money maker.

All available evidence from these guys is that the games will be a single purchase each (so C&C1 will be a single purchase that includes the expansion pack and RA1 will be a single purchase with both expansion packs) and there will be no DLC, microtransactions, loot boxes or any other such purchases.

I am sure they have seen how much of a hit the Starcraft remaster has been and are trying to replicate that success.
I was blown away by the StarCraft remaster. Maybe I shouldn't be so cynical about this.
Petroglyph are a good team, but I'm still really irked over the lack of full LAN function for 8bit armies. I shouldn't have to go online to play co-op with my wife sitting 3 feet away.

Why only have LAN skirmish.

I don't know what it means for the remakes coming here though.
Very cool i still play my old C&c using dosbox and have all series and expansions with their cds/boxs this has me very excited and well to have a gamer excited is a good thing (waving wallet) bring on c&c redux oh yeah :)

P.S hope they bring back the old cast i can't wait to see what nod is up to next .

The Windows versions of the old C&C games (all of which work on modern versions of Windows without problems) are much better than the dos versions.
Original or not, EA is still EA.
I guess the chances of getting original C&C made to work with newer OS anywhere outside of Origin just went to "absolute zero" (not that I'm sure it's available on Origin in the first place, or that it works well if it is)

Yet every time I argue with pro-DRM numbskulls that DRM of the "online authentication required" type will allow companies to cycle out older games altogether for a no-effort "remake" sometime in the reasonably near future I get all the usual invectives thrown my way.

I miss when gaming was a hobby business, technological improvements notwithstanding.

AB2012: Unfortunately Dragon Age 2 is also the product of the original Bioware developers. And that turned out to be the pinnacle of dumbing down for 2011 - precisely because they were published and "helped" by EA...
While DA2 was a relatively poor game in terms of location design, I did like what they did with the narrative of the game.
The other issues in the game are directly related on EA wanting to push the game out fast, as that didn't leave a lot of time for the devs to actually design dungeons, locations and what not.

DavidOrion93: I pretty much gave up on EA when they axed Generals 2.
I hated Generals, I didn't think it felt like a C&C game at all.

I'll meet you halfway. I loved Generals, but IT WAS NOT a C&C game.

Of course, ANYTHING is better than Renegade. :P

Think it says everything about the sorry state of EA that the C&C and wider gaming community isn't losing its mind over this. All anyone can really say is 'We'll see', which is fair enough given how utterly terrible EA has been over the past few years.

I remember how bad The First Decade was out of the box, with loads of codes and the original Red Alert initially missing videos, which could be found floating around in .Mix files all over the web.

I've played C&C for years and always wondered what a remaster of the original would look, but and even with some of the veterans of Westwood onboard having EA in the mix is a real concern.

Who's willing to be they'll try to kill OpenRa at some point? I know that's where the announcement came from, but this is EA - the crowned champions of being dicks.

*phew*

Rant over.
