Can't comment on the Austrian version itself but it most likely either way may be special "glitch" or is fixed by now? (meaning it worked a while and then became locked? )


EDIT: Researched a bit more and ya these Austrian uncut keys still seem to worked and are still being sold and working!

Nope the austrian/swiss keys are not locked for germany. Only the global version is locked there. In fact you can order a retail uncut version in a german retail store and activate it on Steam. The same is valid for Techlands Dead Island series that was and still is playable for german users. Basically its a legal hole that allows people to play the game in Germany.

Edit: Also Techland games have no geolock.

Thanks for the information! Never had to import from Austria/Switzerland has i have the means to bypass region locks and well the Only game i needed to do it for recently was Borderlands 2 anyway

You sure? This article says that you can even activate it in Germany (while in case of some games you have to activate it elsewhere but can then install and play it in Germany - IIRC that's how it worked in case of Dead Island).

Check the discussion between me and Matruchus on Page 4 - summarized - YES - the Austrian/Switzerland uncut Key can be activated in Germany - and the normal GLOBAL Key can't be unlocked in Germany and some other countries and is region locked. Key in the Giveaway is most likely a global key ?

Ja also Key ist nur für Deutsche aktivierbar ohne GeoIP zu umgehen wenn es sich um einen Österreichischen oder Schweizer Key handelt was eher ziemlich unwahrscheinlich ist.

Guess there's still the option to activate it via proxy or having a foreign friend you can trust activate it for you. I did that for several good friends of mine with Dead Island who could play it while logged in in Germany (the exception was one Dead Island key which I got from a gaming mag rather than the retail version or from the Steam store). The question is if Dying Light is one of those games that can only be played in Germany even after successful activation.
