Ritualisto: I'm really into hunting achievements. I can't explain why but I like the feeling when I got 100% of them in a game. I wouldn't say that they ruined the way I play games but they changed the way I play them.
I like if they guide you to special locations or to a special ending.
I still play games without achievements and I prefer a game with no achievements over a game with stupid ones.

Mario Kart on SNES: I never beat the last Grand Prix on 150cc.

I don't really care about achievement when first playing a game, but after I've played a while I feel like they give me totally optional objectives to complete , a bit like secondary missions but they don't affect the outcome.

I do feel that games have way to many achievements, there is no need for achievement saying you successfully started the game for example. Or that you finished a map when it's already something needed to continue the game.

snowkatt: some games even give you an achievement for turning the game on or finishing the tutorial
The thing is that from a developer perspective particularly the seemingly trivial achievements make tons of sense. It's good to know for them when how many players quit or how long they need for a certain passage or how many players make use of which feature. As a result the developers have a lot of input that allows them to address issues more effectively in updates or future games.
Achievements in games, I couldn`t give a flying rats arse about them.
In the past when played warcraft, I did go for a couple, but it was more because of some item it dropped.

But...when it comes to the likes of steam spamming "ping, you`ve achieved..." several times over whilst you`re trying to immerse yourself in game or kill other players, now those piss off me & my christmas jumper & then some!

Take Magicka, the achievements pop up right over the spell cast bar, constantly.
Terraria now has them, which not only spams chat each time you get one, but also steam spam (got it there before it came to GOG :( ) & also the new Terraria ui achie` spam.

But there`s worse, take Cities Skylines, pointless "ping, you`ve got nth thousand citizens" which not only puts the game back down into slow mode (I always play full speed) but it also sticks a HUUUUUUUUUUGE achievement ui on screen.

There`s just no need, no need at all!!

*deep breathe*

Nope, I don`t like achievements, not one bit ;p

I see them as a cheap way for publisher to drag out the game.
Its only logical...if you still play you may buy the next dlc or even the sequel.
The funniest archievement for me was in Fieldrunners 2....to get it you should play every day (for 6 months).
Achievements don't ruin the way I play. Out-game achievements I don't care about, don't check, or don't enable. Some in-game achievements contribute to a short game's replayability, I mean, stuff like "don't shit your pants" or "FTL".

What do ruin my game are the in-game "turn every stone to find every shell/suitcase/feather/flag/riddler-tag, whatever". Those "found : 0174 out of 5000" thingies tend to affect my playing style, as I end up looking for them actively, and, thus, playing very unnaturaly, very "out of character". I try to ignore these, but they sometimes feel too much part of the game. And are sometimes needed to unlock (gameplay or narrative) elements.

These are annoying.
pffft, no. I find it funny when I unlock achievements for reaching a certain chapter of the game. I mean, they're unavoidable unless you stop playing the game, so they're not much of an achievement.

I find i have a hard time finishing games even on vanilla and lose interest somewhat quickly, so by the time I'm almost done with a game, I'm not really interested in it's achievements. I just want to get it over with and move on.
Personally, not achievements nor any other artificial extras added to games´ managers changed the way I play games nor the way I pick them.
If I like a game I play it for the fun of it and I couldn´t care less if I unlocked an achievement (or any other thing) or not.
No...? For me, they are what they REALLY are. Extra. Or useless. Or so "irrelevant" to the game that they get a total ignore. I rarely bother with them, unless for some reason, they are very easy to gain and require little player effort. By the way, only game i have ever bothered or been lucky enough to get them all, up to day, is Naruto Ninja Storm 3, steam. And this is mostly because it had zero achievements for multiplayer clashes.

There is a nice little program for steam achievements though, which can reset them, so you can get them again and again when you are bored and for some reason you NEED to get achievements again for a second (or higher) time. Same program can also UNLOCK them as if you unlocked them through normal gameplay. And no, you don't get banned over this. I tried that in action before and no one even notified me of breaking rules. Same program can also alter client data, like how much time you played a game in total, etc, but this is riskier actually and easier to get you facing consequences, once you are found out. IF, really, but oh well...

Ki11s0n3: I got to thinking while playing some of my games that also had achievements and realized that games with achievements no matter how much I wanted to play it I end up focusing more on getting the achievements than enjoying the game itself. I also find myself picky picking up new games that don't have achievements.

I just found it kinda sad how I focus more on achievements now a days than I used to. I am trying to fix myself though. slowly, but I'm working on it. It especially helps that I am going back and playing old games.
I try to play without see the achievements.

The achievements is a type of Spoiler.
When I'm finishing a game or when I'm finished, I see the achievements and play again if the the game is good.
If the game it's not worth to play again, I don't lost time in achievements.
No. But what does annoy me is that things I think should worrant achievements don't and stupid things like 'saving a game for the first time" do get you them.
Achievement Unlocked: Posting in the Achievement thread.
Depends on the game i play to complete achievements but usually i dont bother with them as to me not a game deal i prefer a game with a game and not a grind for an achievement. Saying that i do like Saints Row 3 achievements as how many games has you running naked as an achievement.
No, they're usually very easy to avoid.
Not in the least. I don't usually go out of my way to earn achievements and I don't (usually) mind the three seconds they spend on my screen. They're just kinda "there".
