Keep an eye out for these localized game versions that just hit our catalog.



Throughout the years, many of the games that are part of GOG.com have seen localized releases and we ventured to collect many of them with the help of our dedicated community and a thorough search through our master archives. Today, 21 games featuring some of these elusive releases enter our wonderful, digitized catalog.

Learning a foreign language is no easy task, although games have been known to expedite the process. And hunting down localized versions comes with its own challenges but we are not ones to give up easily. Besides, we were not alone in this noble quest. Many of the localized versions on this list come from our personal collections, others we acquired through persistent eBay hunting, but a good number of them were submitted by members of our wonderful multilingual community, that humbled us with their generosity. Let’s take a moment to offer these people a resounding high-five and a warm "thank you" for making this Community Language Pack possible with their contributions.

A huge thanks to all these people and the team at ScummVM.org for their numerous donations — both physical and digital. Good job, you guys. We may speak different languages, live in different parts of the world, or even enjoy different genres. But we are all gamers, and that's a word that sounds awesome in every language, n'est-ce pas?


Note: These language versions will be getting gradually rolled out today, so don't fret if you don't see your language version right away.

One question to the GoG Translation team: How are the laws to these translations? I have many Games on CD-ROM that are games FULL supporting languages like e.g. polish or german. However on gog, most of these games are English only?! Does that mean, I could send you a .zip file with the pol. sound and textfiles for example, or aren't you allowed to take these original files, just fan translations ?!

Treasure: Honest question: Was a Greek version ever released for most videogames in the 1st place? I recall Deponia from the top of my head as having Greek subtitles, but not many more games have such an option. And this might also have to do with us Greeks practically having to learn a lot of languages (because tourism and stuff) and because of this happening the distributors in Greece probably thought that making a Greek localized version wasn't worth the trouble or something... I also wonder what other causes caused not only the lack of localizations, but also a great dearth of games written in Greek/made by Greeks that weren't made for edutainment purposes...

P.S And yes thanks to everyone who provided more languages even if we Greeks don't have much use for those...
Grim Dawn has apparently Greek language support, along 10 other languages, on Steam, but here the game is English-only.

Nice try but it won't work....not that we don't want it, no, but the last patch for the game (which is needed if you even want to think about using the Circle of Eight mod) simply overrides any language and changes it to English from what our tech who specializes in making old games work tells me.

These aren't fan translations. These are the official translations.

I'd recommend you contact support with what you have and see where they send you...

Edit: Wait, nevermind. The extra languages were made by the community. I'm not sure if GOG would accept them.

These aren't fan translations. These are the official translations.

Well, the English version of Ultima IX required a metric ton of work in order for us to even think about selling it so the same goes for the German version of Ultima IX.

Hah hah... I suspect most Greek voice-overs are probably even worse than old ( and sometimes new ) German localizations. At least there's usually a certain trash entertainment charm to them, if you know what to expect.

"hilariously" is the correct word. We laughed so hart about the lisp "Rothella" instead of "Rosella" - great comedy!
But then again some people do NEED a localisation so this should not be a reason not to release it.

I prefer my games in Engrish, but it's nice to see those language available for people that don't master the universal language of ingles.

In videogames perhaps, but not necessarily in tv shows. Case in point: I recently revisited the anime Heidi just to see if it still held up, and compared the Greek and German versions (I'm currently learning German) and, surprisingly, everyone's voice (except Clara's) was better in the Greek version. Heidi and Peter sounded more excitable, Heidi's Grandpa sounded more gruff like a true mountain man, the music hadn't been toned down or something (in the German version I had the impression they had changed the music and it was kind of unsettling), so localizations/dubbings are kind of a mixed bag, and that fact that Greek is a niche language shouldn't necessarily mean that dubs in that language are going to be worse or something...
