Elmofongo: As if you've seen better animation in your day?

Cartoons in the 70s sucked. Cartoons in the 80s was toy commercials, Cartoons in the 60s spear-headed limited animation which many cartoons aged poorly.

Unless you count the 40s and 50s with quality disney, looney tunes, paramount, and mgm animation than we are at in impass.

Sachys: Guess you've been blinkered by Cartoon Network shit then. Sorry, but I've seen better animation, storytelling and design done by students. I won't be linking any either as (like I previously stated) I think you're blinkered, and thusly won't accept anything but something that agrees with you.
No I am willing to know some animation from these students you speak of because I am STARVING for quality stories and animation in cartoons.

Please PLEASE recommend me one.

And please tell me its 2D traditional animation?

Elmofongo: Adventure Time, Regular Show, Steven Universe, and Gumball will never be even equal to Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, and Courage the Cowardly Dog among others.

The only good show that came out in recent years was Sym-Bionic Titan and they cancelled it in the first season :(
You just named the only cartoons iv enjoyed in this generation.

They will never hold up the standards already set by the Cartoon Cartoons.

Matewis: As far as cartoon shows go, I can't imagine a better time to have been a kid than in the very late 80s and early 90s. Perhaps I'm overly biased because I'm such a huge Ducktales, Gummi Bears, Talespin, Darkwing Duck and Gooftroop fan. As much as I love the Dexter's lab and Cow&Chicken era of Cartoon Network, they cannot begin to compare to those classic disney cartoons. Except, that is, when it comes to humor. Ed, Edd n Eddy has had me gasping for air on several occasions.

Also, there was this beast of a show :D
omg Edd, ed and Eddy! I forgot about that!

and as for the 80s, I have fond memories of many shows, Cities of Gold, Danger Mouse, He-man, blah blah blah, but when i've gone back and watched them, I was horrified by how bad many of them were. I can still go back to the 90s/00s cartoons and watch them and enjoy them for the most part.

Elmofongo: Wanna know the exact show that imo represented the decline of cartoon network?

Camp Lazlo:

This show was just BORINIG.
Oh yes I remember it. It never held my attention long enough for me to watch an entire episode. Still, it's positively tame compared to another monstrosity I saw on the channel, about a bunch of young people also at some camp, that are also part of some other reality program. It was insufferable

Crewdroog: I"m sorry, but adventures of gumball is funny. And adult swim is great. Rick and Morty.

I mean even MTV had tons of great shows: ren and stimpy, Aeon Flux, The Maxx
WUBBA-LUBBA-DUD-DUB!

Glad to see another Rick and Morty fan here.

Also, The Maxx and Aeon Flux are BADASS.
I want "Inuyasha", "Card Captor Sakura", "Samurai X" and "Dragon Ball Z" back.

Crewdroog: I"m sorry, but adventures of gumball is funny. And adult swim is great. Rick and Morty. Seriously, if you haven't watched this show, do so NOW. It's on Hulu.

However, the 90s (and early 2000s) were a great time for cartoons in general (batman, gargoyles, ren and stimpy, etc), so it's almost not fair to compare them to today's stuff.

Honestly, it's probably b/c of how good the cartoons were when I was a teen that I'm still watching them today. And the fact that I refuse to act like a damn adult.

I mean even MTV had tons of great shows: ren and stimpy, Aeon Flux, The Maxx, beavis and butthead, etc etc. Oh and remember cartoon sushi? now i wanna go binge watch like a million shows.
Yep! Adults suck! *crawls into pillow fort* but seriously, i still dont get, how ren and stimpy got away with all the gore and depiction of mental illnesses...

I liked it back than. Now I feel I grew out of it.

Yeah I don't think He-man would go down all that well for me these days :P
But this one I think will still be good, and I'm really keen on finding it again because I only saw a few episodes. Oh yes, and then there was this gem

Are we talking about the TRUE ren and stimpy, or the adult spin-off?

If its the former, its because Nickelodeon liked risk and creativity. Nowadays, they only go for something that can be the next Spongebob (that is directly from a crew member on Harvey Beaks, another new show on there)

Elmofongo: As for Gravity Falls..I don't know why they show gets so much attention. Kim Possible was the best show Disney had along with Gargoyles.
Kim Possible was (still is) awesome. Truly great show. Gargoyles... I never got into that. I think it's vastly overrated. I actually might have really liked it if they stayed in medieval times, but the moder day setting didn't really work for me.

As for Gravity Falls, I think it has a lot going for it- likeable characters, great humor, it can get pretty damn dark at times, but what really sets it apart from just any cartoon is that along with all the mysteries and fantasy/horror stuff there is also a lot of very honest "real" stuff about the main characters, especially Dipper. About growing up, relations with his sister, his first crush, his insecurities. I remember reading that a lot about the show and characters comes from it's creators real life childhood summer trips with his twin sister. And it shows, at the shows heart there is a lot of emotional honesty, that gives everything, even the most silly or fantastic things a certain gravitas (no pun intended).

Ren and Stimpy has not aged well for me. Its a wonder how this show is more remembered fondly over say Hey Arnold.

Heck the writers of Adult Party Cartoon is currently writing in Modern Spongebob.

may i suggest Don Hertzfeldt? He's a favorite and very funny. Rejected not quality story, but the animation and effects he does are insane.

There was a show with a great story and cool animation called The Maxx (episode 1). it is an all-time favorite.
Aeon Flux is another good one. The stories are weird (in a good way) and kinda go together, but the animation is stunning and unique.

I haven't watched it in a long time, but the old 90s batman cartoon was dark and good.

Mushi-shi is a beautiful anime, each episode being independent of the other, but it tells nice tales.
