Did Pooka jump on me for using random?
avatar
blotunga: I think this:
I vote Microfishd. He was quick to jump on ZFR, and although it's strange that he deviated from his usual random strategy, I wouldn't want to gang up on him just yet for it, if he's town, he'd be a quite big loss.
Lol, what usual random strategy? This is the first time I've ever played this game, and I'm trying to catch up on the rules while dealing with some IRL health issues. I didn't think random phrases off the top of my head (designed w/o reading the backlog to hopefully be funny, nothing else) in #Word Association or #Just 3 Words would count in a serious game. :)

I voted merely for the guy who was confusing me with his explanations of the rules. I figured some amount of confusion or deviation from a standard plot would be modus operandi from scum. And since he made little sense to me, i figured he might be trying to hide something. The mafia wiki said "don't lurk, even if you're new & trying to figure things out. This looks bad from either side." not knowing what this forum considers "lurking" (an explanation would be appreciated), I posted a half-thought-out reason for want of any definite clue so i wouldnt be guilty of the cardinal sin of lurking.

Also, seriously--please explain: how would the loss of 1/9th of the townies be a "huge loss"?

I'm inclined to think this is a scum tactic to make me defensive enough to counter-vote/reciprocate & vote you, thus easing pressure on ZFR. To the contrary, I'm doubling down on my feelings (which were--until I red this post--being replaced by wavering doubts) on ZFR.
OC, if i'm wrong, i'll wholeheartedly apologize to his corpse.

^^ IIRC, that was the longest post i've made on GOG forums, despite typing w/o my right hand.

PS (part 3): i thought I had waited 10 minutes before making a new post. Why does it show up as "edited"? Because the new post was from ^^^^ down, and this post starts with PS (part 3).

I thought I was obeying Rule #5.

He meant my random strategy.

And this time I didn't use it. I said I'd stop and I did.

Ah, I see. Coupled with the vote on me, I thought it was "attacking" something I did or didn't do. Thanks.

There's hope for you yet. :O
Looks like I'm late to the party as I've been busier recently. It's been so long since the last Mafia game. But I did annoy ZFR and Lift enough at Secret Hitler to be an early target for them, especially if I'm town. Sorry @Lift I am Town again, so you should probably vote for me but if I survive I'll try my hardest to be more level headed.

So many walls of texts, where to start. My wagon, fair enough, I deserve it.

Lift is slightly suspicious of a Korotan and Pooka wagon building. It is true that Mafia players do this, it happened when I played and my teammate Trent outed me for it and it happened Day 1 last game. Mafia players can overdo tunneling to kill Town players. Is this happening, who knows, I think an inexperienced player may make that mistake.

It's Day 1. I generally try to get loads of analysis early going but it's usually fruitless and can lead down tunneling avenues. Although the last Mafia game I played I did suspect 2 overly aggressive Scum players on Day 1, so it's interesting to see 'how wagons grow'. Is Scum on my wagon already, I don't know. And Mafia slipping likely won't be apparent anytime soon. But it's worth re-reading earlier days down the line as then you may pick out something that says 'this isn't genuine'.

Apparently microfish has a finger injury. I have a permanently deformed little finger on my right hand and currently hobble due to an Achilles injury. So I think I win the in the woe of injuries.

Vote SirPrimalForm in an attempt to get him out of his lurky ways. Yes crap reason and I'll monitor the thread and update as things develop.

Microfishd:
I meant ZFR usually using random.
Sorry about your health issues, and my vote isn't final, I just want to see reactions from here and there before making my mind up.
unvote Microfishd

I'd quote scene too here, but it's damn hard on the phone to quote two people, so a direct address:
@scene last time you were Hitler and played as a regular scum the way I see it, i haven't played Mafia with you before (haven't played Mafia actually since high school, over 20 years ago), but when you are town you tend to have better inputs. So start analyzing or I'll add myself to the vote queue.

Btw, we are waiting for inputs from the others. I'll cast a vote a bit later, when most people have posted any opinion.

There's nothing to really go at. Lift's doing so probing, the wagons are building, HSL is typing allot without really saying anything.

I realised last Secret Hitler game on discord that I can get it totally wrong and piss off teammates to the extent they don't enjoy the experience. And it's partly because the game is so slow. I also realised playing SH quickfire on https://secrethitler.io is definitely the best way to play it online.

Oh and Shoots Blotunga because OMGUS

Yea, you OMGUSed me last time too. Well, if you want I can follow up on that too:
Sprays scene with ink
There.
I kind of liked Microfishd's reaction to blotunga's poke. Felt like a genuine response from a new townie player who got startled that they are picking up bad attention at the very beginning. Of course, this can also come from a new scum player but in my experience they are less vocal about it.

Does that imply that Lift isn't Town?

Mmmm, yay or... ?!
avatar
dedoporno: Does that mean that an there is a chance for an accidental (or sneaky) vote if the word "vote" and a player's name happen to be placed next to each other anywhere in one's post?
haha, it's possible I guess! I'll try to interpret everyone's intentions as best I can.

Korotan:
Safiros snaps a key into a panel and twists it.
Puzzlebot, remove safety guard level one on air-locks.

The gentle voice echoes around the room.

"Air-Lock Safety Guard Level One Down."

SirPrimalform: I wonder what might happen if someone were to vote dedoporno?

Let's find out.
Do you want that to be a vote?

avatar
HypersomniacLive: I don't remember which game it was, but we this was discussed before and the general agreement was that it's best to stick with the "votes/unvotes must be bolded" rule to avoid confusion and potential manipulation of the game -
If I'm in doubt I'll clarify, but in a situation where somebody is obviously intending to vote and forgot to bold, I will count it. But yeah, as you say, if we all try to use the voting mechanics in the spirit that they're intended, and not try to be clever about it it'll be better for everybody.

avatar
SirPrimalform: That wasn't a hidden vote, it was a test.
avatar
ZFR: So was my reply.
Safiros narrows her eyes, her hand hovers over a large "Station Self-Destruct button", but she slowly counts to ten in her head and pulls her hand away.

If you make sure to check the time stamp on your post, once that reads 10 minutes it's generally okay to post, but the forums are not totally predictable...
It seems we have drawn something out of everyone, leaving us with SirPrimalform offering little. I agree with scene drawing a response out of him. (Also, sorry to hear about your injuries, scene)

So, well, hmm.

avatar
PookaMustard: what would he gain by constantly changing votes?
avatar
dedoporno: He'd appear active?
He can also appear active without drawing too much attention to himself by constant changes of mind.

avatar
PookaMustard: [...] If I were fascist, I'd be discreet about it in Secret Hitler. [...]
avatar
HypersomniacLive: I don't quite get what you're trying to say with this. Elaborate?
While being new to Mafia itself, there's something it shares with Secret Hitler; the Town/Liberal and Mafia/Fascist dynamic. What I'm saying is that, if I were scum in either game, I would work harder to make sure it's less likely to draw attention.

avatar
HypersomniacLive: Well, here's the thing. You didn't exactly have a stellar start in Secret Hitler either, but were quite quick to attempt to turn things around shortly afterwards (after playing some games off-forum, IIRC?).
I didn't have a good start there, true. And I played some games off-forum, getting me familiarized with how the Secret Hitler machine works. But admittedly, I'm taking it with a different approach this time. I'm not going to play any off-forum Mafia game, unless I get unmasked or make it to the end. I want to see how long I'll last as a full-on newbie. Gotta trip and then learn how not to trip next time.
avatar
PookaMustard: He can also appear active without drawing too much attention to himself by constant changes of mind.
If I were a cynical man I might have seen this as an attempt to coach a scum-buddy who is starting to get the wrong kind of attention. I'm not that cynical though.
avatar
supplementscene: Sorry @Lift I am Town again, so you should probably vote for me but if I survive I'll try my hardest to be more level headed.
avatar
dedoporno: Does that imply that Lift isn't Town?
No, that was a little insider that refers back to a previous game, where Scene and I had a discussion afterwards.

@Scene: too bad that you're not scum (if that's true). But thank you for the promise to try to be more level-headed! :-)

dedoporno: If I were a cynical man I might have seen this as an attempt to coach a scum-buddy who is starting to get the wrong kind of attention. I'm not that cynical though.
If you try hard enough, almost everything in the game can be taken as an attempt to coaching scum-buddies. But isn't that what the Action Phase is for? Only scum can talk to each other in the night, right?

I think I'll be better off keeping my vote on you. You seem to latch on to me in a distinct matter. It's not like ZFR jumping on me with a reasoning behind it (or at least agreeing with Lift's reasoning), but more like it's mostly sarcasm more than anything. You're not trying much, to put it in the best way I could. I have a gut feeling you're probably scum.

To everyone else; what are your thoughts about my voting Dedoporno? Am I not wrong in choosing to suspect him?
