Gydion: Isn't that exactly what it says? It's how I read it. Guessing this will also keep the original game ID.
avatar
moonshineshadow: I'm just wondering, because yes, that is what it sounds like, but at least for the games I have which have seperate soundtracks, the soundtrack is not a seperate entry in the library, it is found under the game extras.
That does apply to OSTs that were bought as game extras, yes. The two OSTs in question here will, however, be separate products now. As for the logistics and the whys, this is something that has been talked through between our product team and the developer, and the solution's been agreed upon and seen as most acceptable for both sides.

fables22: Well, a lot of the time, it's not entirely our decision. But we do always try and do what we feel is right.
avatar
HypersomniacLive: I'm fully aware of this, hence why I focused on mentioning the devs/pubs.

Still don't see why they have to be removed and re-added as separate products though. To the best of my knowledge, DLC is added to the game, and not listed separately in one's game library, why is this case handled differently?
The in and outs of this were discussed between our product team and the developer, and this is the solution most acceptable for both sides, so hence why. Sorry if that doesn't answer your question per se, but the reality is that not all cases can be handled exactly the same way. We do, however, always try and keep things as consistent as we can, but we also have to be a bit flexible in the way we deal with things such as this.

Since you are going that way, could you suggest to the product team (and BizDev I guess?) to make the soundtracks separate products, but to not mark them as DLCs? That way, one could buy the soundtrack to a game without buying the game itself, in case some are only interested in the music.
I think there are also a few wishlist entries about that, though I never really cared that much about the soundtracks.

Yep, can do for sure. We are only just working out how exactly the OSTs will be sold on GOG subsequently, so that's good feedback. Thanks!

fables22: As I stated in the OP, the separate products will be added to the library of everyone who bought the games when they included the OSTs as bonus content. This'll happen over the course of tomorrow :)
For a moment I thought I had to hurry and download the extra content (which I should have already) or otherwise potentially lose it forever

Although worse comes to worse, could just listen to the OST's on Youtube...

No no, if you have the two games, you'll have the OST and should get them as separate products today.

Yeah, I've wanted this for quite a while.
I would've bought the Crypt of the Necrodancer OST's here instead of on Steam but you guys kinda forced my hand by making me repurchase the game here to do so.

It's a good shout for sure, and I will pass it onto the relevant people. As I said, sometimes, those decisions aren't entirely ours to make, but we can see what can be done for sure!

Urgh. Alright. Not happy with how that is going to be implemented but thanks for the answer.

So, I checked this with product and, sadly, that's not something we are currently able to do. The reason being that we don't have a platform for selling music as such. The only way to have OSTs available is to have them listed as extras or DLCs. Sorry :(

No worries, I guess the details of what can and can't be sold is more complicated than I thought. But do ask them (or the legal department, whichever one is more likely to think of why that would work instead of why that wouldn't) if you could sell us DLCs without owning the base game (with all the required warnings of course).
GOG have supported DLCs for quite a long time.
If I buy A and DLC of A, those DLC/OST/Extra will be listed under A.

I hope Broken Sword OST will work the same, just like other games with DLCs.

I will do.
Can't say I'm looking forward to having the Broken Sword OSTs as separate products, and the only reason I can think of, given the lack of actual info on it, is that it may come with a different dev/pub. That, or its just one more thing to better accommodate the way GOG Galaxy is working/will be working.

Emmm... does this mean that OSTs of other games may become separate entries in our libraries? Am I reading this correctly?

Having been here for a few years now, allow me to say that the most consistent thing about GOG is inconsistency.

By saying "the OSTs" I thought I made it clear that I still refer to the two in question.

As for inconsistency - it's not hard to be consistent if you are the one making all the decisions. But you'll probably know for yourself that that's very often not the case in real life. All you can do is try and do your best with what's handed to you :)

Thanks for making this absolutely clear.

True, yet sometimes you need to try a bit harder. Take, for example, the mess the unbundling has caused in regards to naming the unbundled titles, and how that spread a number of collections all over one's library. Quite a few good, and not hard to implement, suggestions were made by users as to how to fix that, but as far as I can tell, they not only haven't been adopted, but we don't even know if they've been taken into consideration, and it's just a matter of it being #10,158 on GOG's TO DO list.
