Matewis: I've been meaning to create a thread like this. I love those old boxes, and especially looking at the screenshots on the back and reading all those, usually, over inflated statements about the game :D

Here are the only pics I have on me at the moment showing the front, and back
I picked up Blade Runner at Goodwill (a place that sells donated goods) for $3 or $5 a month or so ago. It's now my only big box I have.

Speaking of big boxes, I was very happy that Big Boxes stopped being a thing b/c they were so huge. But Baldur's Gate II's manual was tiny in the little box, which I bought. I still carry that manual with me since I'm always playing that game on and off since it came out. :) But I always did want the big manual.

0.0 that's impressive, and by the way that is the Druid, not the Barbarian... Tsk tsk ;)
I had about 30-40 game boxes stashed in a big moving box in the garage, so I had only the Disks/CDs/DvDs in their Jewel Case to save some space. I moved out and forgot the moving box.

Then my Dad decided to clean out the garage at some point. :)

Great collection. I was just thinking of hunting down a copy of Legacy of Kain for PC recently.
Awesome displays, too!
I'm putting more display shelving in whenever I get a rainy weekend spare. :D

Nice collection! What's up with your trapezoidal urban chaos box though? My urban chaos box doesn't look anything like it.

That's the original box of "Urban Chaos".  I've also found these two pages on eBay:

 ▪  New Sealed 1999 Eidos URBAN CHAOS PC-CD Big Box Game
 ▪  Urban Chaos "B" Original Trapezoid Box NIB WIN 95/98/NT/2000

That's pretty cool. My box is rectangular, and if I remember correctly this was its cover: http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/199170-urban-chaos/images/box-119835

I like your trapezoidal Urban Chaos box !
But I'm very surprise to see big boxes for games from the 2000's like Obscure or Swat 4. The DVD format is an obligation for publishers in Europe since 2001 (EA was the first to sell its games in a DVD box). I miss big boxes : (

The most recent one I own is Diablo III, a 2012 game.  Right now, it's almost impossible to find PC games in retail stores, and if you're lucky, they are only available for a few weeks, and you have to buy them at full price.  With digital distribution, the games are kept for a very long time, so you can always wait for price drops and big sales before getting them.

I miss these big boxes too, they nicely fill a bookshelf!  :-)

I see :) I wonder what the idea behind it was. It's the first game box that I've ever seen that is trapezoidal.

It was a good way to grab your attention in the retail stores. Because of their shapes, these boxes were hardly missed, and some stores put them on dedicated shelves.  Many game boxes had this format, including "Tomb Raider 1 - 3", "Star Trek Unity", "Thief 1 - 2" and "Omikron: The Nomad Soul".

There were two other unusual formats:

 ▪  Hexagonal format:  StoneKeep     (1995)
 ▪  Z-shaped format:   Gabriel Knight  (1993)
