tinyE: Something I do have though I don't know if it counts here, is a fold out NWN case. When I ordered all the expansions they sent me this glossy fold out covered in game illustrations complete with 5 labeled slips for the install and play disc.
They were common in the old days.
I have two major regrets in my life. At least two that are gaming related. Back when I was a stupid, naive, ignorant and arrogant person, i.e. teenager, I used to save up my money for games that I wanted. Only problem was that my parents weren't too fond of games because, to be honest, I really did play a lot. Anyway, so what I used to do was to have sleepovers at my best friends house who had moved away to Pretoria. While there his mom used to take us to a big mall, this one, where we were left to our own devices for a while, and which gave me the ideal opportunity to pick out a nice game with my friend who was a big gamer himself.
Problem was, how do I get the game home without my parents realizing (I don't even know whether they would've been mad in retrospect). A CD is much easier to hide than a box, but of course I wanted to keep at least something from the box, which led to the brainfart : cut up the box to create easy-to-hide pieces of box memorabilia to take back home. Guess what gaming boxes I cut up this way? None other than the original Half-life box, and the original Unreal box :-|
Yeah, I'm not proud of that.

and Biff from Back to the Future!!

Well, I can't seem to accept your request... they weren't kidding about Galaxy not being at a full version number yet, were they?
Another good reason to keep all of your game boxes: you can manually arrange your library!

<ba-dump-tsshh!>

I stupidly sacrificed a bunch of my games in a move. For the ones I kept, the boxes went away and I stuffed the disks and extras in zip-lok bags. d'oh!

And version number is very much arbitrary and doesn't really mean a thing. Perhaps GOG decided to not be like everyone else and instead of alpha-beta-rc-release, they would go through alpha-beta-gamma-delta-rc-fuckitthatlldo?

Yep, am hearing you. Two big regrets (well three - also got rid of a box load of metal D&D figures for nothing) are chucking out the spectrum/amstrad tape collection (including boxed dizzy games *sob*), and destroying the boxes of pc games when I moved country.

Ah those days when you got something physical, something you could put on the shelf and be proud of, cloth maps, thick manuals. The move to online only has ruined many good things, collecting in particular. DRM ruined a lot of games, client software as well (oh look I can re-arrange my virtual shelf!). I remember when I was a lad (*note* even I smirked at that statement) running around a school field with sticks for guns, now its all "follow the glowing yellow arrow and mash button X when it flashes on screen".

As for BB, well I have probably 30 or 40 now, though its getting harder to find them at a reasonable price.

They say we're at beta, so iunno.
But, I mean, the gamma and delta stages could be a couple years long each.

Ooh, ouch at that box of D&D figurines :-\

You raise a good point : I find myself wondering what kids get up to on school playgrounds these days. In a way I'm almost too afraid to ask. We played a lot of video games at home, but playing during school time consisted of massive rugby matches, the odd cricket match, and marbles, if it was marble season. The marble season, which was a big thing at our primary school for a couple of years in the mid 90s, was especially funny in retrospect. You could challenge each other with duels to win/lose one marble at a time, or you could go to the 'stands'. The stands were awesome, and was basically a line of kids under some trees who each put down a collection of marbles you could play for. If you wanted to make your own 'stand' you would pick out a spot, select a couple of your own marbles, and place them in whatever formation in the dirt in front of you. Then you would mark out a line in the dirt some distance away from the marbles you've placed, how far away being determined by how valuable the collection of marbles were that you placed. If someone wanted to play for your marbles, he (none of the girls played marbles) would then approach you and show you one if his marbles he wanted to play with. You would then first inspect the marble to make sure it wasn't chipped or anything and then assign a value to his marble with respect to what you've put down and say something like "Ok, you get 3 tries with that one". He would then stand behind the line and get 3 attempts to hit one of your marbles with his marble. If he failed, you got his marble, but if he hit any of your collection, he could take all of them. I made my own stand a couple of times, and was surprised at the buttload of marbles I won in the process!
In retrospect, in a way, we were teaching ourselves simple economics. Marble economics as it where :D

..wel it could be worse

they could move at valve time

or worse 3d realms time ( its done when its done 14 years from now )

funny you mention marbles
its marble season again i saw them at a convenience store when buying printing paper
and i was tempted to pick up a bag just for the hell of it

for some reason marbles always suddenly appeared out of nowhere
one they somebody showed up with marbles and boom it was the marble season
