There are two things that matter to all of us gamers: the games we play and the friends we play them with. But as more titles come with dedicated launchers and clients, our games and gaming buddies become scattered in between them. With GOG GALAXY 2.0, you’ll be able to combine multiple libraries into one and connect with your friends across all gaming platforms!

As gamers, we need to juggle between multiple clients to access our games and see what our friends are playing,” says Piotr Karwowski, Managing Director at GOG. “We believe gamers deserve a better experience, and this became the driving force to redefine GOG GALAXY client,” Karwowski adds. “GOG GALAXY 2.0 is designed for all gamers and extends well beyond existing GOG.COM users, into both PC and console platforms.

Once you connect GOG GALAXY 2.0 with other platforms, it will import all your games into one library. You will see your friends activities and online status across connected platforms. All new library and friends features apply to your GOG.COM games and enhance your experience. And it’s designed to protect your privacy – your data belongs to you and will never be shared with third parties. We see it as an all-in-one solution for the present-day gamer.

chandra: GOG GALAXY 2.0 is not only a launcher, it's so much more ;)
To give one example, it's not only a way to connect all fo your games in one place, but also friends.

What about things like Steam's integrated controller support? I use it a lot because it lets me play with my Dualshock 4, which I need due to health issues with my hands.

That kind of thing will not be accesible with Galaxy 2.0, right? If not, then I'll have to stick to Steam.

takezodunmer2005: My thoughts exactly, the only flaw is that it's still in beta, but this is brilliant! Take THAT epic!
It sadly won't really hurt Epic until it drops a major game with multiplayer/some gimmick that brings in massive amounts of people/profit.
Do you long for having your heart interlinked ?

Ancient-Red-Dragon: In that case GOG should change it's slogan to something like "Your home for sometimes-broken DRM-free games, in which cases we will not allow you to download the non-broken DRM-free version of games that you paid for."

As it stands now, GOG has an ethical responsibility to offer the non-most-recent versions as DRM-free backup installers, given that they don't market themselves on the premise that the DRM-free backup installers will sometimes offer broken versions of the game and that GOG customers may-well end up stuck with those broken versions.

Galaxy 2.0 will be a perfect time for GOG to start offering this very necessary feature.

I heard Witcher 3's version 1.32 even breaks the ability to use mods, which for many users is an essential part of that game. Is Galaxy 1.0 and Galaxy 2.0 soon going to start forcing GOG users only to have access to that version 1.32? If so, that's gonna tick off a whole lot of people, and rightly so.

I wonder if the reason why Galaxy current offers v1.31 as the only backup option is because GOG knows this? Or did they just yet not get around to forcing the newest 1.32 version onto everyone as their only backup option?

And if they are deliberately offering v1.31,instead of v1.32, because they know v1.31 is the non-broken version, then it begs the question: why does Witcher 3 get special treatment, whereas less popular games are stuck only having the broken versions available as backups? In other words, that's an unfair double-standard which GOG is applying.

GOG could instantly solve all these problems by letting the customers choose for themselves which version of any GOG game which they download.
1.32 breaks mods the same way 1.31 broke mods. Some mods don't work with it due to version checks, variations in the .exe file, and other various reasons. The update isn't broken as much as mods are not being updated to run on it. You're also not forced to update your game, or anything. I have EVERY VERSION of the original Witcher 3 (Vanilla) saved on my PC. Don't confuse automatic updates with forced updates.
This is really exciting news. I primarily use GOG Galaxy now and would love to be able to hit up my friends on steam without using steam anymore.

Signed up for the BETA and can't wait to take a look at the new UI.

visconteprimus: Not to be annoying but I repeat my previous question.

I'm not interested in this feature at all and I want to keep using the old GOG Downloader.

Will it be still possible?
Why would it not? This doesn't change the fact that you can still DL the off-line installers, and even though the DLer is not officially supported anymore (and hasn't been for years), I see no reason why this new Galaxy client would mean GOG's not going to provide the DLer links anymore. Although it would be understandable if they decided to finally end it.

Not that I think it will be possible, but should you manage to include support for the Steam-Link and Steam-Controller for couch gaming, I will build an altar in your honor.

lolplatypus: I believe we already got that statement.

Basically it's not going to happen.

StingingVelvet: It's almost like Linux gamers are a very loud but very small group.
All those small groups CAN add up to one larger collective you know.

Friend-oriented features are great, but there seems to be a bit too much emphasis on that, considering how many of us don't play with friends.

As an old person I always visualize the "I only play with friends" people as college people/school kids (and people not long out of school) who are focused on socializing with their friends from school, with gaming being secondary to socializing.

For most people, that gets less common the older one gets (aside from 90-year-olds playing Bingo together).

/rant

Anyway don't forget that we don't *all* find friend-features to be the compelling ones, so the other features mentioned may be more important, depending on demographics.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: 2) The ability to use Galaxy to download offline backup installers for previous game versions, other than the most recent one. I.e. I own Divinity Original Sin: Enhanced Edition, the latest version of which causes a game-breaking bug with the tooltips that appear over the skills, tooltips that are designed to provide essential information that the aforementioned bug unintentionally removes out of the game and thus makes it unplayable in certain ways.

I can partially solve this problem by rolling back to a previous version via Galaxy.

But what if I want to download a DRM-free offline backup installer of the non-broken version? GOG offers no ability to do so, given that the GOG interfaces only offer me the option to download a backup installer of the latest version which is broken.

Giving GOG customers the ability to download not the most recent version is also important for when patches make undesirable changes to the game, i.e. breaking the ability to use mods, changing the game for political reasons, unbalancing the game, etc.

chandra: If you don't connect other platforms to your GOG GALAXY account, it won't happen automatically :)
Thansk for the answer. :)

And what if I use GOG connect? Will this trigger the sync with steam? I want to keep the two separated.

I love to see it in Galaxy too but i understand if it's not in Galaxy's road map in foreseeably future since i imagine will take a lot of work and QC testing.

There are some games on that natively support DS4 without having to run external overlay: PC games with native DS4 support

But if your games on GOG doesn't have native DS4 support there is always an alternative, use Ryochan7 DS4Windows.

On a second thought, I only hope that this won't be another excuse for lazy devs to refuse giving Linux/Mac builds here:

"Oh you want to play our game on Gog? Buy the Windows version and use Galaxy with Wine to play the Linux version from Steam, thx."

Or even better:

"Sorry we won't port to Linux even on Steam, you want Gog? Buy on Gog, play the Windows version from Steam using Proton, thx."
