There are two things that matter to all of us gamers: the games we play and the friends we play them with. But as more titles come with dedicated launchers and clients, our games and gaming buddies become scattered in between them. With GOG GALAXY 2.0, you’ll be able to combine multiple libraries into one and connect with your friends across all gaming platforms!

As gamers, we need to juggle between multiple clients to access our games and see what our friends are playing,” says Piotr Karwowski, Managing Director at GOG. “We believe gamers deserve a better experience, and this became the driving force to redefine GOG GALAXY client,” Karwowski adds. “GOG GALAXY 2.0 is designed for all gamers and extends well beyond existing GOG.COM users, into both PC and console platforms.

Once you connect GOG GALAXY 2.0 with other platforms, it will import all your games into one library. You will see your friends activities and online status across connected platforms. All new library and friends features apply to your GOG.COM games and enhance your experience. And it’s designed to protect your privacy – your data belongs to you and will never be shared with third parties. We see it as an all-in-one solution for the present-day gamer.

Intrigued on how this will compare to Playnite, which I currently use.

Pyromancer138: I have a question.
Will it be possible to import all the achievements and hours played on Steam?
That's correct

Disappointing indeed as a Linux user myself , guess still stuck in "stoneage"...them

Ancient-Red-Dragon: At the very least, GOG could do something to try to address the problem.
Like what?

keeveek: You haven't even delivered most of the promises you had for the previous GOG launcher
What are the undelivered promises you're talking about?

I've been using Playnite for the past 2 months as a unified platform for all of my games (including imports from GoG/GoG Galaxy. I'm definitely looking forward to how this will playout and what it entails for further playing a variety of games that aren't on the store yet or are but on a different platform.

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

Thanks for all,GOG.
How will this differ from Playnite or Launchbox? Looks ok, but I already have launchers for everything.

lolplatypus: I believe we already got that statement.

Basically it's not going to happen.
avatar
ShadowOwl: That statement is from over half a year ago from a staff member no longer working for GOG and the Linux version is still being mentioned on the Galaxy download site.
Yes, but their former Mac/Linux spokesperson isn't working for GOG anymore, either. By its own admission GOG has to prioritize where to direct their limited resources and I think it's perfectly clear where those priorities are.

wormholewizards: It irks me when people complain about lack of Linux/Unix support. It's not a mainstream platform for entertainment and gaming, you know pretty well what you get yourself into when you deciding to go with it.

I have a friend who's an avid Linux user cause he's a programmer, but he also run Windows in a dual-boot mode on his machine for his entertainment needs.
I do know. I get to use an operating system that doesn't spy on me, I control the updates, and it's quicker and more stable. I get all my entertainment, and most of my gaming done in Linux. I currently only have three games installed on the Windows side of my dual-boot system. Just because you don't use Linux doesn't mean others can't voice their opinion about lacking a Linux version.

If Linux users don't speak up about wanting Linux support, then developers will not know that Linux support is wanted. I only recently decided that I would like to see a Linux version of Galaxy.

My only complaints about lacking Linux support on GOG is when there is already a Linux version of a game sold on another platform. I think sometimes it is out of GOG's control, like in situations where Feral Interactive makes a Linux port.
I'm hoping this one starts faster than the current client, looks good!
This (attachment) displays for a second or two on loading the site. Just a glitch, but amusing one.

I'll probably try it. I only shop for games here and don't believe in that "social gaming" stuff, but at least to check how stable it is. Maybe I'll find something I like too - better tagging (current tag management was atrocious) sounds interesting, or maybe it will let me add tModLoader launcher without messing with .info file for Terraria.

StingingVelvet: This would be all on the developers, which is why it will never be centralized or mandated like you're asking.
avatar
Ancient-Red-Dragon: Well, GOG could do things like a) make it be mandatory for games sold on GOG or b) strongly encourage the developers to make it happen by giving them very strong incentives to do so.

One thing is clear from the history of GOG: if GOG continues to do nothing at all to address it's huge glaring complete lack of Crossplay problem (at least for ~99% of GOG games that badly need it), then no progress will ever be made on the issue, and GOG will remain a non-viable multiplayer platform.

At the very least, GOG could do something to try to address the problem. But these announcements the come with the Galaxy 2.0 features do not give any indication that GOG is even trying to address the problem with lack of Crossplay.
You do realize it's not up to GOG when it comes to cross play but the developers? Many of them go the easy way and Use Steamworks for there online services, making cross play impossible.

StingingVelvet: It's almost like Linux gamers are a very loud but very small group.
And then there's you. lol

chandra: GOG GALAXY 2.0 aims to connect all clients and launchers, among with all of your friends scattered in between them :)
If you used it in the past, it's still the best way to run and update your GOG games ;)
avatar
toxicTom: Will I be able to add games simply installed from disk or Humble/Itch.io DRM-free installers? I don't use any other launchers/clients...
Yes, adding single games will be possible :)
avatar
keeveek: You haven't even delivered most of the promises you had for the previous GOG launcher, and now you announce another one, that seems to be a glorified wrapper? Shortcut folder?

An app to launch another app to play a game?
Exactly.

Yay! lol
