If the rumors are true about it being an online survival rpg I'm going to have to give it a very hard pass. I enjoyed both 3 and New Vegas and although 4 was a step in the wrong direction in my eyes, I didn't hate the game either. I'm not beholden to the past and think the new games are certainly fine. An online game though won't cut it for me as I don't play mmo's at all. I'm really hoping that's not the case. We'll know for certain in a couple of weeks either way.

tinyE: Shit, I was hoping Groove Champion was back.
Hey Stampede? How about a poem?

Well, online doesn't mean MMO, necessarily. And I'd be very surprised if Bethesda didn't have a way to play the game single-player (and maybe even offline), even if it's designed from the ground up for multiplayer. So if your concern is you won't play MMOs, you may still be able to find something to enjoy in what we're hearing about F76. Though if the speculation that it's a Rust-clone turns out to be true, then it'll just be a Moderately Multiplayer Online game. We need an acronym for that. mMO? ModMog?

Darvond: Have Bethesda ever given us reason to believe they've mended their ways? Their games are some of the most broken known to mankind in the large market.
Never had a problem with their games, love most of them. One of the rare publishers still focusing on singleplayer too. But hey, be as negative as you like. Your life.

I can hope and pray it's at most something like State of Decay where the coop is very limited and not necessary at all to play the game but I'm quite skeptical about that to be honest. The most likely case for a multiplayer focused title is the micro transactions (see Fallout Shelter).

That said, I'd *love* to see more fallout shelter features make it into the bigger games. I was really disappointed that I wasn't able to send out dwellers out into the wasteland for a chance at random rewards in Fallout 4. There really needed to be a ton more to the settlement part, more management, less lego/minecraft

amok: They are? I only know about Fallout, (3, NV and 4) and Borderlands series, and I really like them. Which other games are there in this genre? I would like to check them out

(I would not consider something like Skyrim a "shooter with RPG elements".)

paladin181: S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Destiny, Destiny 2, RAGE though that's more pure Shooter but stinks of Borderlands in the are style and gameplay, Dishonored, Dishonored 2, Most COD Games,
I forgot about S.T.A.L.K.E.R., that's right, played it years ago.

I would not say Dishonored is a shooter, it is a stealth RPG game in first person. I played through the first one without ever firing a single bullet. They are also linear, not open world (though the levels are quite open how you approach them).

RAGE is a pure shooter, I do not remember any RPG elements, really. COD games are linear, and AFAIK do not have RPG elements.

Destiny I have not tried, might check it out.

TanguyLOZ: Well you might want to check out Shadow Warrior 2 for the Borderlands aspect but with a HUB and there is the Stalker saga that fits that description too, but it's really easy to get killed so be prepared to savescum.
More traditional open worlds are Dead Island, Dying Light and their expansions.
There are also the Just Cause and Dead Rising franchises in 3rd person.
I hope you find something worthwhile in these suggestions.
Dead Island, yes, forgot about them. They where OK, actually. I played the first Shadow Warrior game, and it was a nice shooter, but very far from an open world RPG shooter. If SW2 is more open, then I will check it out.

Just Cause and Dead Rising series are fun, and open and shooter, but not first person. They are very action oriented also, which is fun, but lacks the depth of games like Fallout (or even Borderlands, to be honest)

What does "linear" have to do with RPG or not? EDIT: Destiny is mostly online. But you never mentioned Open world as one of your desired criteria.

the question was "Open world shooters with RPG elements"

ah.. I see the confusion. My post was in reply to GreasyDogMeat's "Open world shooters with RPG elements are fairly common these days", and I asked about them.

no worries, I can see the confusing. I could have made my own post clearer, sorry.
Oh dear, looking forward to the game but will have to wait for a modding kit to repair it.So by my calculations it should be playable by 2030.
Did I mention that a new/updated pc might be handy.

I have to ask. Are these just typos or...?

http://www.ibtimes.com/fallout-74-reportedly-online-survival-rpg-dayz-rust-2685958
Yeah, they get it right some of the time and wrong other times. Probably switching between "76" and "4" explains why it's sometimes given as "74"
Oh, I have totally forgotten that Fallout 4 existed. But since it is not on GOG, it does not matter much.

How would people here sort the Fallout titles from best to worse?

Fallout 2 > Fallout1 > Fallount NV >Fallout 3 >> Fallout 4

Thats's just my personal opinion though.
