Is Dark Souls 2 excellent by the way? I'm considering getting the "Scholar of the first sin"-edition of DS2 for Xbone. I like RPGs and I like difficult games. I have never played any of the Souls-games before though. Is the game is good even if I play it in single-player? I watched my friend play it, and it looked like random people could join his game and help, Diablo-style. He told me that multiplayer was an important part of the game.

Multiplayer is an important part of the game, but Dark Souls 2 is a great single player game too. I've played it while my internet connection was down and it was still a lot of fun.

The only thing you really lose out on by ignoring multiplayer is that you won't be able to level some of the covenants (mostly the pvp oriented ones)

There are some indie clones:

Malebolgia - This one is the most similar to Dark Souls, still on Early Acess.

Ghost of a Tale - It looks great but the artstyle/atmosphere is less dark than Dark Souls.

Salt and Sanctuary - 2D Dark Souls.

While many people complained about DS2 not being as good as DS1 ( and at least some of the critique is legitimate ) it's still an excellent game, and having played through all 3 of them ( Demon's Souls included ) I would recommend DS2 as the best title in the series for a newcomer. It's still difficult, but certain changes to the gameplay make it much more accessible ( such as more save points, or a simplified smithing/crafting system ). I'd say go for it.

And I actually played through all of them in offline mode, since my PS3 doesn't have web access, and the games were still perfectly enjoyable. You miss out on various unique features that way, but unlike other developers which try to force you into online mode, From Software actually put in some extra effort to enhance the offline experience. In example, when you play online other players can invade you at ( almost ) any time and try to defeat you. So for offline players they added in CPU "invasions", so people without web access don't miss out on this game element entirely. They also added in friendly CPU phantoms you can summon to aid you during boss fights. For the real deal go online, if you can, but it doesn't feel like a crippled game experience even without the online features.

Alright, sounds like a excellent game. I'm not too interested in PvP, but it sounds like it has other important multiplayer-features as well. I have a 1 month Xbox Live Gold-code lying around here that I must use before it expires, so I might as well use it to play DS2 online :)
Bloodborne is the closest I know. Also, you may like Nioh and The surge
One would assume that, 2+ years on, he's probably found some suitable candidates by now...
Bloodborne
Nioh
Lords of the Fallen
The Surge
a bastard's tale , comes to mind. kind of like retro dark soul, really charming and its so difficult.

ok this is a 2 years old topic, what did the OP get?
Dark Maus.
