The DRM-Free Revolution Continues with Big Pre-Orders and Launch Day Releases!

Good news! GOG.com is going to bring you more fantastic launch day releases, preorders, and other exciting new content from some of our favorite developers. We've lined up 3 big titles that we will be bringing to GOG.com in the next couple of months for sale or preorder that we think will be hits with all of our gamers; and we have more equally exciting games coming up soon.

If you've been a member of the site for a long time, you may recall that when we launched sales of The Witcher 2 on GOG.com, we had to add in regional pricing. The game cost different amounts in in the US, the UK, the European Union, and Australia. We're doing something like that once again in order to bring you new titles from fantastic bigger studios. Since we don't accept currencies other than USD on GOG.com right now, we'll be charging the equivalent of the local price in USD for these titles. We wish that we could offer these games at flat prices everywhere in the world, but the decision on pricing is always in our partners' hands, and regional pricing is becoming the standard around the globe. We're doing this because we believe that there's no better way to accomplish our overall goals for DRM-Free gaming and GOG.com. We need more games, devs, and publishers on board to make DRM-Free gaming something that's standard for all of the gaming world!

That brings with it more good news, though! As mentioned, we have three games we're launching soon with regional pricing--two RPGs and a strategy game--and while we can't tell you what they are yet because breaking an NDA has more severe penalties than just getting a noogie, we're confident that you'll be as excited about these games as we are. For a limited time, we will be offering anyone who pre-orders or buys one of them a free game from a selection as a gift from GOG.com, just like we did for The Witcher 2.

If you have any questions, hit us up in the comments below and we'll be happy to answer (to the best of our ability).

EDIT: Since we've answered a lot of the common questions already here (and lest you think that we've ignored you), it may be handy for you to check out the forum thread about this and search for staff answers by clicking this link here. (hat tip to user Eli who reminded us that the feature even exists. :)
Nice catch^
The cheeky bastards. Come on, come clean, now is enough. Trying to bury your history because you might be afraid that people might frown on your latest decision and rightly so? Very underhanded that. You can't turn back time. Stop treating us like morons, this does not inspire trust at all!

That's dumb, if they're trying to do damage control that'll only manage to fan the flames. Someone will just upload it somewhere else.

Darvond: Has anyone noticed that GOG is currently being rotated on a spit over a fire?
avatar
Future_Suture: I do wonder why that is. GOG has done nothing wrong after all!
Mainly because we don't know who the publishers in question are. Otherwise, it'd be them.

This is the second "issue" thread (first Darkest Dungeon Kickstarter) I have participated..and yes...it´s a neverending cycle.

Since everybody has a good point (mostly, because jewish people dont deserve being the punchline for jokes =_=) that won´t stop of bringing new forum pagse, but not solution.

I think we have expressed clearly so much opinions, so now Its time to see what happens (since was 3 big releases, but over months..not for this week)

GaminggUy45: What if regional pricing was something that was keeping Grim Fandango from coming here?
avatar
hedwards: It's not. If regional pricing were keeping a game like that out of here, they would have led with that at the same time as announcing the change.
Well it's not like we could know that for sure with NDA's all over the place. We rarely if at all hear about the business side of GOG's dealings aside from we've been talking or we're close to signing so and so.
The GOG - The Regional Ripoff- Why Can't Gaming Be Fair video on YouTube was marked as private - was expected.

But look what else is still up on GOG's YouTube channel - took a screenshot for preserving and reminiscing.

Well... Let's hope GOG does regional pricing right. Because if they don't, that's another reason for me to not buy here - as much as I like concept of regional prices, I've mostly seen it abused so far
I expected this, and yet I'm still disappointed.

Hampster: How did they exactly handle the situation with The Witcher 2?
Also, it's hard to believe Ubisoft would give up on their DRM. I mean, they're Ubisoft. It's kind of their thing. :/

adamhm: Well originally it just used the location you set in your profile... which is what led to the lawsuit. After that they were forced to use geo-ip to determine each buyer's location.

As for Ubisoft... well, it's not unheard of for them to try releasing new games DRM-free (Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, Prince of Persia 2008 and Rayman Origins were all DRM-free at release), and they're already signed up with GOG. So it's definitely possible that they could be persuaded to release some new games here DRM-free.
would be interesting if they willing to dump Uplay DRM off games to release them here. big black eye to steam.
only problem is the pricing.......

C17: Will all games in the catalog be regionally priced?
avatar
Asturaetus: In the short run: no - in the long: it is likely.

When the made distribution agreements between GOG and the respective publishers are in for renegotiation because of their usual finite length - there is nothing stopping the publishers from demanding regional pricing for those titles also.
I fear that as well. Though I worry, with a weakened negotiation platform. And evidence of submission, whats to stop publishers demanding some form of DRM.
good lord....

If they are being roasted they did it onto themselves with their regional pricing lunacy.

What will be the next thing? Releases with DRM?

One fair world wide pricing was the best PR for GOG. Without it, it wil just drive customers away...

After remember the "no-answer" of Steam $= euro policy, and the small explanation of Humble store, I think we are even fortunated of have this thread (and get some info from Gog guys) to share our thoughts.

Internet it´s more and more censored as we speak =_=
Bad move, they should have just rolled with it. Man their PR dept. fucked this up big time.
