On the 23d July this year, it will be exactly 30 years since the Amiga 1000 was unveiled for the first time (officially) at the Lincoln Center in New York.

I think it is time to begin the celebration of the greatest computer ever made. This will be the summer of the Amiga!

Starting with the 100 top voted Amiga games:

Link to Amiga Forever:

The upcoming documentary, Viva Amiga: The story of a beautiful machine:

Kickstarter to the Amiga 30th Anniversary in California:

Personally I have started the celebration right now by playing , and I have [url=http://www.lemonamiga.com/games/details.php?id=920]Ruff 'n' Tumble at the ready.

Strange, The Chaos Engines is two times in the top 100 of Amiga games!

Not the only game that seems to appear twice. That's because the list treats the CD 32 versions as different games.

Ah, the kind of tricks that statistics aöways use! :-)
I would be glad if I had my old Amiga 1200 togheter with the games I played on it. Especially The Chaos Engine, I loved this game. The newer version, which is also on GoG, is not very good, the difficulty is somewhat higher than in the original I had back then.

In fact, The Chaos Engine shows up three times:
It`s number 33, 45 and 72 on the list!

Just shows how great it is :)

(the list changes depending on how many votes you say you require from the the list at top)
For computer game fans, there is a Kickstarter in its final 14 hours for a movie focusing on the impact the Amiga had on the industry.

For those interested in art, there was a Kickstarter last autumn for a book on the art of Amiga games. You can still order it on: http://www.bitmapbooks.co.uk/

So yeah, this is turning to be a great year for Amiga fans.

Wait, the kickstarter isn't over yet? But... The movie is already released: http://www.funstock.co.uk/from-bedrooms-to-billions-home

The kickstarter mentions stretch goals which include extra content on the physical discs... But the physical discs appear to have been pressed already. I'm confused...

Yup, I backed that one. I also have the C64 book from his previous kickstarter.

From what I could gather, they are making a sort of sequel that will focus particularly on the Amiga and that will have an international, rather than purely British focus.

To put it differently, they are using some of the previously unused the footage related to the Amiga, with the research and contacts they have already established to get new material, to make a movie on the Amiga's impact on the gaming industry.

What an extraordinarily bad idea...

So if I buy the first one, and then later on the second one, I'll have to watch much of the exact same material again?

By all means, they should make a global one, but don't reuse footage from the existing one, that's just... stupid.

Actually it's easier, especially if you play it with a gamepad and make use of the additional aiming angles which allow you to hit enemies much more easily, also enemies whom you had to destroy with the special attacks originally (at least if you wanted to minimize the risk of getting hit).

I guess there may have also been an AGA floppy version with more colors and stuff.
So, any US folks present that had an Amiga? I recall it always being there in the category "have heard/read how great it is (graphics capabilities), but know no one who actually has one".

Why was that? Did Ronald Reagan ban Amiga in the US as a commie ploy? What were US people using instead in the late 80s? NES? Apple IIgs? IBM PCjr?

Maybe C64?

Perhaps I have made it look more problematic than it actually is. Go check their KS page.

Here's what they say on the old footage issue:

"any previously shot footage will strictly be unseen"

As I understand, Atari ST and Mac+ was bigger in the states. But then, they have always been a bit backwards there over the pond...

Breathless is as hard as ever...
God I love my Amiga.
I have had it refurbished and stuck an SD card in it with near enough every Amiga game ever released on it.
It sits proudly next to my PC and gets regular use.

Talking to an Atari fanboy over on Retrogamer, the ST was just as unsuccessful in the States as the Amiga.
They loved their Apples and were much quicker to embrace consoles than over here in Europe.

The Bedrooms to Billions film mainly concentrated on the 8 bit scene while their new kickstarter is focusing on the 16 bit era, particularly the almighty Amiga.
