Welcome back to Bright Falls.

After a prolonged leave of absence in order to pursue his music rights, spooked book writer Alan Wake is now back on sale in all his original glory!

To celebrate, turn your flashlights skywards and then grab Alan Wake 80% off until November 1st, 4pm UTC.

Additionally, American Nightmare, the game's acclaimed spinoff, just got a permanent price drop and is also 80% off on top of that, so the time to complete the series is now.

Does this happen with movies/tv? I don't think i've ever noticed this happening with movies or tv. Then again i don't really buy digital versions of movies and tv shows. Why does the video game industry seem to get worse contracts with the music industry then the movie and tv industries? The video game industry is bigger than them now so shouldn't they have more pull? This is constantly happening with video games and it sucks.

It does happen with movies and TV: https://www.npr.org/2012/01/03/144624329/the-big-bad-swap-the-problem-with-replaced-music
They generally replace it with generic music.
Welcome back :)
It's always a great news to hear that so dang good game comes back to GOG.
Don't ask questions, just buy. I can fully recommend.

I hope more good old games will come back here soon.
Even if eg. in CMR2005 the brand names and 3d-models of cars would be replaced (like in Xpand Rally - no problem to guess real brands), I could buy it. The license-free version of game is always better than no game.

viperfdl: btw: Where is Alan Wake 2? I want to know how the story continuous!

finkleroy: Remedy has said that they want to make a new Alan Wake game, but Microsoft bought them, and they don't want them to.
Got a source for that? I tried both the Wikipedia article on Remedy and Remedy's own website. I couldn't find anything about Microsoft acquiring them.

Esmeralda95: Do yourself a favor and buy it (the expansion is not that good, but it's still enjoyable)

I hope they make Alan Wake 2.

...

sorry
This is good news.

Welcome back, Alan!

I guess they followed some of the same principles with Alan Wake as they did with Max Payne.
but also Microsoft negotiated the price with poets of the fall at the same time which brought back the game

``Big thanks to our partner and Alan Wake’s publishers @Microsoft who were able to renegotiate the rights to the licensed music in Alan Wake, so that the game can be sold again.``

it like i hate you Microsoft for canceling Alan wake 2 but i also love you for bring back Alan wake (complicated relationship)

It happened with the show "Popular" when it released on DVD, most of the big licensed music was missing.

Additionally, along that line "WKRP In Cincinnati" has a lot of expensive licenses which is why it has never released on DVD.

"Duckman" had music removed since Zappas is a jerk(I mean he was part of the main cast and he couldn't have given them a break when it hit DVD). Ugh.

edit: Does this GOG release of Wake have the same amount of extras as the previous one or was a soundtrack released as part of the previous bundle. Just curious. I love Wake and am buying this regardless in case Cave decides to be a jerk again.

Alaaaaaan I've missed you, man.... XIII and NOLF will also join us?
to fight some misconceptions

1. expansion is not part of alan wake universe it's a spin off and was part of the Xbox Live Arcade game
2. music is the same
3. as for extras i'm not sure since i don't own the gog version, steam version though comes with everything even the war music video, score, writings, pictures, and video demo & making

hope this helps and also please read my other comment 1-2 above

They generally replace it with generic music.
Or, in some cases, with nothing at all.
I've seen at least one or two movies/TV shows where the subtitles mentioned song cues or lyrics when there was no audible music whatsoever, and it was pretty much always a popular song (or a song by a popular artist), often one that would have been quite recent when the film or episode came out.

I didn't know Frank's music was used for the show. I had heard of the show, but never watched it.

I see that Frank Zappa wrote the music but died before the show aired while Dweezil voiced a part in the show. The first DVDs were released in 2008. Around that time the Zappa Family Trust (ZFT), under Gail's management, was trying to sue a Zappa tribute festival among other things. Later they went after Dweezil for a trademark dispute for performing as "Zappa Plays Zappa". My opinion, but I don't think the culprit with the original DVDs was Dweezil.

From what I see, the releases from this year do include the original music.

I see the same bonuses. Same download file size at least. I don't think it ever included the soundtrack as a separate bonus download.

Then I apologize as I figured Dweezil Zappa was the one being the jerk.
