Ah, ok... was I the only one expecting something more dramatic, like "6 community members went to GOG HQ... and were never heard from again"? :P

Jokes aside, thanks to all the involved local forum dwellers for letting us know and for representing the community's interests, being our eyes and ears, subtly interrogating the GOGBears and whatnot.

And a heartfelt thanks to GOG and all the people involved from their end for doing this, though a more official announcement, not just a forum thread about this from the participants would have been nice to have. I don't see the point of being shy about it. All in all I think it's an awesome move that shows someone is listening or at least trying to listen to what the community is saying and willing to address our doubts/concerns.

fista1.103: Were they talking about job opportunities? Personally, I would love to work there.
There's a link at the bottom of the site:

All of this sounds good. Yay!

I wonder why only Europeans were invited, though.

Also, it's not hard to replace a forum with a ready solution. Writing a new one from scratch is hard. Fixing a broken one is hard. Just replacing one would take maybe a week at most.

Painted_Doll: You guys promised us pictures from the meeting or didn't you ?
We thought we should first answer the most important questions that were asked here before doing the "sightseeing" :) But those pics will be posted.

There was a Canadian there. Beyond that, I suspect many people didn't attend due to travel distance I imagine. I can drive to Warsaw in 8 hours from here, and that's not particularly cheap (probably a €60 tank of diesel). Flying from the States or Australia is probably especially costly for what is essentially a guided tour and a face-to-face meeting.

Which reminds me, did you ask them about people hacking the forum and trying remove users they deem undesirable based on their own personal selfish bias?

Like you said and in addition to that we were told they also invited other people from outside of europe they just could not make it.

Great write-up! I wanted to go but couldn't get a passport in time. Hopefully the opportunity arises again at some point.

PaterAlf: You forgot the most important thing: We had DRM-free pizza!!!

Edit: So yeah, that means I was there as well. :)
Ha, nice. :P

PaterAlf: Yeah, the beer tower wasn't enough. Must have been magical beer though, my english got much more fluid after I drank some glasses.
Just curious: what were the non-alcoholic bev options? (I don't drink.) I suppose it might be the same as in America - Coke, Pepsi, root beer, etc.

Leucius: I don't know why, but I'm a little salty that you guys got invited and I didn't. Not that I could have afforded to go anyway, but the gesture would have been nice.
I don't necessarily blame you, though it'd be hard for GOG to invite all 100+ "regular" forum members. I'm guessing (though maybe I shouldn't) those who were chosen made a "name" for themselves on the forums, in a passionate way, especially if they had been here close to the beginning.

JMich: 10) Old games: GOG are still very much actively trying to get more classic games onto the platform. They are working to make deals both for new partners, and for games in the back catalog of existing partners that have not yet been released on GOG. It is quite difficult work though. All the low-hanging, mid-hanging and even quite-high-hanging fruit has already been picked, so it takes quite a lot of resources, but they are still committed to it. They also occasionally go back to games they failed to get earlier and try again, if they think there is a chance they might succeed this time.
That's rather sad to hear but understandable. Can you say, or did they say, whether the majority of the current problems are technical or legal? In some cases where emulation should be easy - DOS or Scumm titles - I think the problem would be legal, but it's not so obvious Windows titles.

Not that it really needs to be said, but there are still more of the LucasArts backlog (war sims), Maxis DOS titles, Activision/Sierra/Dynamix, Take 2/2K, Retroism, Bioshock, Max Payne, Dungeon Siege, Heretic/Hexen, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic...

One of our earlier drafts for this was kind of like this :D

JMich: 6) Regional pricing: Situation is complicated. The pricing model does depend on a lot of factors so it’s not so easy to enforce a specific price point. For classic games GOG still tries to prevent higher price points than the base price.
We had at least one dev here claiming, that regional pricing is the standard option on GOG, so I find this statement strange at best.

What about the lost PMs?

Very interesting and informative thread, thanks - and thanks to GOG as well. There's not a lot there that surprises me, but it is good to hear that they're still committed to DRM-free - and that they recognise the communication issues and are trying to do something about it.

I could imagine a possible reason for this not being officially announced. This should always be a feedback from community members to community members. A newspost from GOG would feel more like a marketing gag and not like impressions from (small) part of the community.

Well... I just looked it up and a flight from Chicago to Warsaw in only like $6K in business class. Plus, there's a lot more to Poland than GOG, one could stay there for like a week and check out some of the historical and touristy stuff.

Either way, doesn't matter. It's cool that someone from Canada came.

Just to understand you correct. You mean a dev told that he was "forced" to regional pricing for his game?

Klumpen0815: What about the lost PMs?
I asked you in chat before. What PMs do you mean? The ones that were lost after changing to the new account system with chat?
Thanks for posting Mich, interesting. May we have some more pics please.:)
