ZFR: Can we notminate members?

drmike: I would think it would probably be at least another year or so until they do this again.
How suitable then that he is notminating them. ;)

It's not done yet ;-) I'm just quite busy this week, so I don't have a lot of time to work on it.

fables22: [...] As for the invitees, we did mention some of the other people we invited when we were asked this question, yes. [...]
And I assume you did so, along with the reasons they didn't attend, after you asked for and they gave their consent/permission, yes?
Damn, I thought this was the new forum mafia thread.

I'm not sure I get that complaint.

If I invite someone to my birthday party and they don't show up, is it unreasonable to tell the other guests "Well, they couldn't make it, because they had to work." when they ask me about them?

Looks like the forum ate my first attempt at this reply:

They told us a few of the forum members (by forum name) that couldn't attend and they gave us a couple reasons why some people couldn't attend, but nothing related to any specific member in particular, and no real-life names. So no worries on that front.

WISHBONE'S TALE: PART SEVEN

The last day
The next morning started the same as the one before, with the 6 of us eating breakfast and chatting. Fortunately, this time I was not hung over. Breakfast concluded, we each retired to our rooms to pack our things, because we were checking out before leaving for GOG HQ today.

MarkoH01 had complained about his small bag, not knowing how to fit the GOG swag into it, particularly the glass. When we met downstairs before getting picked up, and we actually saw how small his bag was, we promptly dubbed him the "Tetris Meister". I don't know how he managed to fit everything inside, but he did.

At this point, we had to say goodbye to Gersen, because his plane home was leaving around lunchtime, so he had to go to the airport right away. He took a taxi there, while the rest of us took one back to GOG HQ.

And then they were 5...

More discussions
We spent the morning in another meeting room, talking to some of the product acquisition people. We didn't talk much about specific games, developers or publishers, but mostly about how they went about their work, and the kinds of challenges they faced.

Around noon more goodbyes had to be said, as JMich, MarkoH01 and PaterAlf had to leave for the airport, to catch their respective planes.

And then there were 2...

Winding down
The planned program was now over. GR00T and I went to lunch in the canteen, and then moved into the marketing office. We each got a desk and a laptop, to play more games if we wanted to, or just to relax. At this point we were quite tired, both physically and mentally. The past two days had been heavy on input, and processing it all was tiring. We spent some hours playing games, surfing the net, and talking to a few people here and there.

Around 17:00, two taxis came for us. I was going to the airport to catch my plane home, and GR00T was going to another hotel, as his plane didn't leave until the next morning. We said our goodbyes to each other, and to fables22 and elcook who had taken care of us while we were there, and then went our separate ways.

And then there were none...

Watch this space for the next exciting installment: Wishbone's Tale: Part Eight.

MarkoH01's packing skills are INSANE.

immi101: not sure why you would think that you pay for other peoples discount ?
avatar
MarkoH01: Easy.

Without RP
Poor country customer cannot afford game X for 10 currency so he won't buy.
Rich country (just to make it easy) cutomer buys game X for 10 currency.
Units sold: 1

With RP:
Poor country customer can afford the game X because of discount for 7 currency and buys.
Rich country customer has now a higher price and pays in addition to the base price the discount price for poor country customer 3 + 10 = 13.
Units sold 2
I have a hard time believing that theory.
If it were true we would see surcharges being adjusted in tune with any discount changes.
I don't recall any changes to the euro price when the Latin America discounts where added, nor when the China discounts where added.

For digital products it doesn't make much sense to worry that much about a specific price per unit. It costs nothing to create and sell another copy, so trying to increase the number of copies sold and maximize the total profit is a much better strategy.
Publishers sell games at discount in country X because selling 5 copies @ 5 currency => 25
while selling 2 copies @ 10currencies => 20
the goal is to find the best price point that most people are willing to spend for your game.
And that sweet spot will vary depending on the disposable income.

I did not say anything else. They discount the games to sell more units. But if this has nothing to do with the simultaneously higher price in the so called "rich" countries - why IS the price higher there? It does not need to be and it is not if there are no regional prices. So if there is no reason to sell games at a higher price why do so (and risk that people who consider RP as being unfair to not buy at all)?

fables22: MarkoH01's packing skills are INSANE.
Well, I had to repack my bag 5 times and I was thinking about leaving a bit of my stuff (not the GOG swag of course) in Poland. But just to make it a bit clearer (don't know if I had posted it already), this was my bag:

Nice! I may have to add a small chapter of GR00T's return journey, as it turned into something more than anticipated.
