Black Isle Studios with Chris Avellone on board returns to the surface for Fallout 2 - take a look at the development process of the sequel to one of the best RPG games ever created.
War. War never changes. Game design, however, is an industry in constant fluctuation. The success of the original Fallout dictated that Black Isle Studios and Interplay craft a riveting and worthy follow-up. Such suffocating pressure brought about a reshaped development team that saw many familiar faces leave the figurative Vault in pursuit of other goals. Fallout designer Tim Cain was one of the first to move on.
Nice Job GOG!
I was just trying to be the first to post in this treat !!
I just wanted to point out a spelling mistake in the editorial.
In the following sentence the second ON is redundant:
Intent on leaving their on mark on the franchise,...

Thanks, that should be fixed now.
And if anyone missed the first editorial, you'll find it here:
Fallout editorial
Great stuff, both editorials were really good. My personal preference is Fallout 2 no matter what, but great to hear what the developers think :)
That was a great read. Always interesting to see what the people thought of their own game. Love both Fallout & 2 damm hard to decide which is the best.
Great read. Love these editorials.
Didn't expect the talk about the Fallout MMO although I doubt it will ever get released.
Will we get one about Fallout Tactics? (I have no idea who did this one)
Also interesting is the recently announced Fallout: Vegas by Obsidian - Chris Avellone company...
This reminded me of what a badass Ron Perlman is...
And gave me insight into the making of fallout 2 of course :D
Cool retrospective, the bit where Ron Perlman threatened to kill Chris Avellone's family was shocking. Can we get the Mp3 of that as a bonus material for Fallout 2?
Cool!
I still do not like Fallout MMO idea, though.I just wish Chris Taylor would join Obsidian and worked on Fallout - New Vegas instead.
It's interesting to note that Black Isle's Fallout 3 has pretty much been commissioned now by Bethesda- although Black Isle is now Obsidian and the '3' is now New Vegas.

when was this editorial done? if recently, it seems like Interplay may have just shot themselves in the foot.

I wouldn't mind it, say if it was set in China or Europe, as opposed to America.. the possibility of having thousands of people in the wasteland sounds better there.

Wow, I'm surprised you put something in about how hardcore Fallout fans can't stand Fallout 3. Usually when sites do that they put a lame "what a bunch of kooky nerds!" spin on it.

I needed that laugh. :)
Thanks GOG for this editorial, I look forward to the next one!
