Thiev: fix is simple - you need to edit registry key:
HKLM/SOFTWARE/(Wow6432Node*)/BioWare/Dragon Age
rename value 'Path_' to 'Path'

if you have DAO installed and Path points to the correct folder, Toolset will install.
If you use Origin Client and don't want it to update the game automatically, you need to rename the value back after installation.
If toolset cannot find the game after install, run toolset configuration and point it to the game folder. It will work afterwards.

* on 64bit OS
I have no such key in my registry....what's going on here?

I also cannot install the toolset since it cannot find the game, but your fix is also not possible because I don't have that registry key. The only thing under Bioware there is NWN.

Any help would be appreciated.

Currently I suspect there are some problems with Galaxy Client and the newest Windows 10 update. Keys / shortcuts are not being created.

If you installed the game via Galaxy Client, try Verify / Repair option - this should recreate the keys.
If you used offline installers, you can create the key on your own
- right-click on BioWare key, choose New -> Key, name it Dragon Age
- click once to highlight the newly created key, right click again, New -> String Value
- name it Path, it should appear in the right panel
- double click the new value and a window will appear where you should put the whole path to your installation

Your response caught me in the middle of reinstalling the game (and yes, I did install through Galaxy previously, doing the same right now), so I'll do as you instructed once the installation is complete.

Well, I managed it with the manual regedit method. The new installation did not create the key and neither did repairing the installation.

With the manual method, everything worked out and I have the toolset up and running.

Again, thanks a bunch for the prompt help!

I seem to have crowed victory too early.

The Toolset now won't run because Windows 10 doesn't support SQL 2005...

I'm kind of at a loss now...

I got that message when installing SQL2005 on Windows 10, I just ignored it and installed it anyway.
The Toolset works for me on Win 10 & SQL2005.

However if you want to update the SQL, this guide written for Windows 7 & the Steam version might help.

I just finished a rather tortured path to upgrade SQL Server 2005 Express to SQL Server 2014 Express 64-bit. :-(
It turns out the SQL Server 2005 Express packeged with the DAO Tools is too old to upgrade directly to SQL 2014 Server Express! :-\
Rather than flounder about like me, here's the short version of the tangled path I used:

1.) Run "regkey-switch.cmd" file in the dao_toolset directory.

2.) Go to this page: www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/search.aspx?q=kb2463332

3.) Click the "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit Service Pack 4" Download button.

4.) Download your language, and run it.

5.) Then use the "Search Microsoft.com" for your language of SQL Server 2014 Express and upgrade.

6.) Run "regkey-switch.cmd" again.

That should do it. Finding SQL Server 2005 Express SP 4 was the bear. Microsoft kept throwing me to upgrades, as SQL Server 2005 support has ended, period. So, they (rightly so!) don't want you using such an obselete version.

I'm looking at an open instance of the Dragon Age Toolset, so it seems to work OK on my AMD Phenom II X4 965 w/ Win 10 Home 64-bit. The demos are all "read only", but that's probably a simple permission change. :-)

I have the same problem and i dont have the Bioware key to edit.
My dragon age registry is under
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\GOG.com\Games\1949616134
I tried to made a key as
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Bioware\Dragon Age
then add Path under it but not working.

This is what i did for non-GOG version.

regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node

right-click on that 'WOW6432Node' key and choose 'New Key'

new key = BioWare

right-click on that new 'BioWare' key and choose 'New Key'.

Add 'Dragon age'

right-click on that new 'Dragon Age' key and choose New Value

Add ' Path ' in top box

Add your exact game path folder name in Bottom box

ie:

E:\games\Dragon age - Ultimate collection
or
E:\games\Dragon age

e.t.c.

Job Done.

p.s:
If you've been playing Mass effect games you will already have the Bioware key so you can skip the first step.

I have a problem with the toolkit, too. I finally managed to install but now I get an error message on the lines of "Database not found". Any ideas?

If it was "unable to connect to Database"
The list of possible causes is long.

If your lucky, you might just be able to go to Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\modules & delete the Single Player folder.
