Hmm, that's quite interesting...but I thought it would be a standalone game... Smart marketing choice but not very fair for consumer :/
Can someone tell me if it's possible to use a save from the original with an Enhanced Edition ?
I am playing actually BG original from Gog with BGT and was planning to go from BG1 to Throne of Bhaal with the same characters. Because this new adventure comes right in the middle and needs anyway the EE, I'm thinking about stopping the original journey to do it with the Enhanced Editions. Unfortunately my time is not infinite so I would love to use my save from the original in the EE. Is it even technically possible? I'm already in the end of BG1 and I am a really slow player :/
It's selfish but finally if Hickory is right and the game is bad, that would save me plenty of time (and not buying 3 EE...) and finish the original saga :)

I'll be amazed if they don't crap on their legs.
However, as selling games is as easy as ramping up the hypometer, I'm sure it will probably still sell like hot cakes, no matter how grotesquely they arse-rape the story, and ride on the fame of the Baldur's Gate name.

I have a morbid/academic interest in seeing how this expansion turns out. I'm not ready to dismiss it out of hand, but this is Beamdog's first attempt of making an actual new RPG. I know they have some ex-Bioware people (including David Gaider) but there's also something inherently cynical about making a new Infinity Engine game; an expansion to Baldur's Gate at that. I feel like they could prove themselves better by doing something else besides trying to build upon a 18-year-old engine.

If one reads the Beamdog, Gibberlings3 and/or Spellhold Studios forums one can read that work is being done on creating an Enhanced Edition Trilogy that is striving to combine the EE versions of BG1, BG2, SoD, IWD1 & portions of the original version of IWD2 into 1 large game.
As far as Hickory's response of, "No, it's not." I have no idea if he's attempted to use a save from the original with an Enhanced Edition and failed or not because those 3 words are the entirety of his response. Though he may have answered that way because one is going to need to have BG1EE installed to be able to install SoD. SoD is going to be an expansion, not a standalone game.
Whether or not one should buy the EEs, I feel that one should determine that for themselves.
EDIT: Typos

I've heard of people importing characters from original to EE but not entire saves.
And I agree if beamdog is stubborn to make a new IE game then a new numbered entry certainly sounds like the better idea. A BG3 with new main character would still hit that nostalgia to build hype. It feels strange to have an expansion to a game that already has a sequel and expansion. But we're stuck with what we got, so let's hope for the best.

What specific part of elgils' question do you believe I don't understand? elgils asked "if it's possible to use a save from the original with an Enhanced Edition ?" I described how I successfully used saves from my BGT install to import my character into the EEs. I obviously did "try it and see." According to my personal firsthand experience I was able "to use a save from the original with an Enhanced Edition". I fail to understand what anyone's subjunctive belief has to do with this situation. If you do not wish to clarify your responded of "No, it's not." in regards to elgils' specific question of, "Can someone tell me if it's possible to use a save from the original with an Enhanced Edition ?" so be it; but my personal firsthand experience has shown that it is "possible to use a save from the original with an Enhanced Edition".

Hum, please don't argue because of me. I'm french so obviously I don't speak or write english correctly. It's totally normal if you misunderstand what I'm trying to explain, I do my best but I can be lost in translation. Sorry for that.
The idea was to use a save from BGT into the Enhanced Edition to NOT start from the beginning :
- I am in the last chapter of BG1 in BGT, I export the save, import into the EE and can continue my game from the last chapter of BG1 EE
- If it was a standalone I wouldn't need any save at all. I asked this probably stupid question because I know that it's unfortunately not a standalone.
Personnaly I don't use any other mod than BGT, widescreen and the fixpack, it works fine and I have nothing against or for the EE. I wouldn't buy the EEs for themselves so if the Siege of Dragonspear is bad, I would buy nothing and continue the original saga. If it's reasonably good I would buy the entire stuff and do the whole journey with the EEs (and here the Enhanced Edition Trilogy, thanks ValamirCleaver, is the perfect solution).
Thanks all for your help, for now I just wait and see and play other games.

I havent even thought of anything with this game. I just know its going to be awesome and the more i read about the game, the more i believe that the time will go longer until it is out. So i stopped reading about it.

Not holding my breath for it. I found the new content of EE really subpar. And I hated how forced it was on me. There was a lot of potential to improve BG1 but they did nothing of that, except for increasing resolution.
Maybe they have improved but my experience with BG:EE was bad enough that I did not even try BG2:EE.
