fughe: Here is my two cents on it all.... Hopefully beamdog makes enough money from this project to make it worthwhile to pursue making new campaigns. Who cares if they are Baldur's gate related. I just hope they are motivated enough to make more. The Baldur's Gate series, and Neverwinter Nights style games were some of my all time favorite. If all everyone does is bitch about it when a new one is test released....there won't be anymore ever.

vsommers12: You're right. More Skyrims and Dragon Age 3s cause why bother trying to make games for the stick in the mud BG fans that whine when you try to sell them something new.
You mean games like Pillar's of Eternity? That one got very well received.

Dragon Age 3 wasn't because the game was 90 percent shallow filler quests.

Taking an old franchise and updating it so it's LGBT friendly was guaranteed to bring a mixed response. If you want to sell something "new" then why not make something original?

Agree with this. I'm playing through Dragon Age: Inquisition and it makes Siege of Dragonspear look like a joke as far as agenda pushing goes. Probably can't go thirty minutes without hearing about some homosexual relationship of some sort. Even has it's own trans character with far more time and character development.

I'm also very much enjoying the game because it also makes Siege of Dragonspear look like a joke as far as the writing and player freedom goes... just as the classic BG games make it look like a joke.

Yes, I lean more to the right of the fence as far as politics go, but I can overlook your leftist leanings and agenda pushing IF YOU MAKE A GOOD GAME! The only positive I can think of in SoD so far is the joy of hearing the voice actors reprising their roles.

I'm far from done with DA:I, but if I had to rate my experience so far I'd give it a 9 out of 10... would be a 10 out of 10 without the agenda pushing but oh well.

It is quite clear that Amber Scott doesn't care for BG at all. She jumped on a chance to dish out some SJ to gamers, and that was her only motivation. The interview with her kind of confirms it. Which is probably why the rest of the expansion pack is so railroaded and riddled with plot holes you can drive a truck through it.

Look at the endgame. Irenicus frames you for murder. Uhm...what? He is after your soul. That is the whole point of BG2. Irenicus needs you steal your soul for himself.

So what happens if his SoD plan succeeds? The player-character gets framed for murder and gets executed. Uhm...yeah. If that happens the Bhaalspawn soul disappears (we see it in ever deathscene in the game). That means no Bhaalspawn soul for Irenicus. So the whole framing the PC is just completely moronic.

Which means Amber Scott never bothered to play the game at all, or even look at BG2. She had one goal and that was to push a political agenda. I am fine with inclusion of transgendered characters and all that. It worked like a charm in the Dragon Age game. And it worked because the writers also cared about the rest of the game and the story.
Siege of Dragonspear is the ultimate disappointment of my life so far, and I don't think anything will beat it for years to come.

SoD contradicts SOA. Let that sink in. It also makes Irenicus, one of the best villains in rpg history, look like a complete moron. Let that sink in too.

The people who post about SoD, on a forum for discussing SoD, aren't spending a lot of time doing it. It takes less than a minute writing a post. Just like you did right now.

Got nothing better to do that post about SoD? That is insane.

And now it has a lazy illiterate who doesn't know how to use capitals and punctuation, and who suffixes every other sentence with "lol". Jeez!

Whether or not a game is consistent with the rest of the series is not dependent on whether the game is actually good. You can have a good game that contradicts the rest of the series it's in, or a bad game that is consistent with the rest of its series.

Therefore, SoD contradicting SOA does not imply that SoD is somehow bad.

Actually, at least some of my posts take a lot more than a minute; this is especially since I might be making a post about the precise game mechanics (for example) and might need to look up some detail I'm unsure about.

(Also, "writing" should be "to write" in the sentence I quoted (but it certainly shouldn't be "to right" which I actually typed before correcting it).)

Continuity in fiction in an unwritten rule. If you are going to break the rules, you need to be good. Beamdog shouldn't be breaking the rules.

SoD is a chapter inserted to an already finished story. It isn't a stand-alone game or a spin-off. That makes it part of the whole story. This new part contradicts BG1 and 2 all over the place. And the word "wench" is for some reason offensive in SoD, when it clearly isn't an offensive word in the Forgotten Realms at all. BG1, 2, NWN, and other games use the word "wench" all the time and nowhere is it considered offensive. The writer considers it offensive, however. Because Anita said so. SoD is filled with a pile of things like that that really goes completely against the tone and setting of the rest of the game. It is almost as if SoD takes place in a completely different world.

Thanks for the grammar education. We people from Norway do tend to make an odd mistake here and there when it comes to foreign languages.

Quite right. Wench is a completely acceptable archaic name for a young woman. A 'buxom wench' is not an offensive term, if anything it's a compliment... unless you happen to be a feminist.
