Luned: *Minor spoiler*
Yep, you can find him again and get him to rejoin.

*BIG SPOILER*
Go to Dernholm & check a tavern basement. You'll have to fight some guys and then resurrect him. If you're not a spellcaster, probably the cheapest way to do this is buy the beans from the halflings arguing in the park SE of the castle in Dernholm for 1000 gold, then go have the gypsy outside the town to the north identify them. You get 3 beans, each will work as either a major healing or a resurrection spell. Put them in a quickslot, then click on Virgil. You'll get backstory from him and the option to get him back.

A correction, and an addition... (Still *Spoiler*, of course)
1)It's not in Dernholm, but Caladon. The inn is The Sobbing Onion.
2)You can resurrect him using the resurrection scroll from one of the chests in the basement. (I suspect it's not only there because I use the UAP.)

HereForTheBeer: Thanks for the spoiler. I was just wondering last night if there was any good reason to visit some of those "early" towns again, short of needing master training for this or that, since the story hasn't sent me back to Dernholm or Black Root in quite a while.

Just wanted to direct your attention here before you go looking all over Dernholm for Virgil ;-).

Doohhhh! *smacks forehead* Got my towns mixed up! And yes, you can use the scroll... or you can buy the beans to get 3 resurrections and sell that one scroll for more than that. ;)

Well, I don't know about you, but I just like to have those three beans intact until necessary... Don't know if I'll ever use them, but having all three instead of two gives me an extra feel of security. :-)

Just make sure that you don't give one to each of your NPC allies. If any party member dies, everyone still standing with a resurrection device will immediately use it on the fallen dude... thereby costing you every rez item you have for a single application.

Indeed, those NPCs are unfortunately not really smart.
BTW, it was really nice of you to write this guide, Prator. +rep given when I first saw it ;-).

DrIstvaan: Stuff
No problem. A lot of this information is taken from Gamebanshee anyway (I actually didn't know the dog existed, or that Sebastien was recruitable, or that you could hire all of the Void guys before looking that up).
Black Isle has an unfortunate habit of including a great many recruitable characters who are A) hard to find or B) not very helpful. It's a common trend I've seen in nearly all of their RPGs, and Arcanum has it worse than most. What's most annoying about this sad habit is that, while you can learn about the usefulness of skills by trial and error, learning about which henchman you can pick up and what they can do is mostly luck and thorough observation, two things which you should never expect a newbie player to have. So, I wrote this guide up, hoping to make the game a less stressful experience for everyone else.

Prator: <snip>

I've just started Arcanum a couple of days ago, after a inital botched run when the game came out, and your guide is much appreciated. Thank You!
Bumptastic!

Prator: Raven: Elf princess. Incompatible with Z'an unless you max out Persuade. She's a bow-user who can fight passably well as long as she's supplied with arrows, but I'd recommend not bringing her along because there are others who can do better.

I think I needed 20 Charisma also.

Luned: Jormund: Dwarf wizard in Qintarra. Will join you if you clear him of a murder charge. Doesn't seem very useful, but do his quest anyway for the XP and his magic staff.

He is an interesting mage, but he never uses magic in combat. Is there a way to say him to use magic?

I'm afraid I only kept him around for about two combats before deciding to go back to the original group of NPCs I had, who fit better with the main character I was using at the time. Off the top of my head, I'm not even sure he had many combat-type spells, did he?

Luned: ...I'm not even sure he had many combat-type spells, did he?

He has got a full complement of Fire and Force spells, including Disintegrate. Not so bad.
Jormund is useful in the rare cases where he actually uses his spells, but none of the NPCs are particularly reliable when it comes to magick, sadly. Seems to be a problem with the spellcasting AI.

I did exactly that but I'm encountering what seems to be a bug :
when i try to resurrect him, NOTHING happens, he just stay dead while the bean was consumed... Same thing with the scroll in the chest, it does nothing, not even the little sparckle when a cast fail...

Help, please !

PS : I'm playing with the UAP, could it be what causes the bug ?

Actually, I found Jormund very useful for one reason: He's a free NPC! I'm not using the Unofficial Patch, so that might change, but for me, he doesn't count toward the party limit even though he has an inventory. So, pack mule!! His complete lack of effectiveness in combat doesn't matter, I just like not having to worry about slowing down a fighter will my huge stash of 'nades. :-)
