The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition Announced!

Game ch-ch-ch-changer!

GOG.com is pleased as punch to announce that The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition, developed by sister company CD Projekt RED, will be coming to PC on the 17th of April! Just like when CDP RED updated the original Witcher to The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, this comes with scads of upgrades and extras for you to enjoy. The good news is that anyone who owns The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings before the 17th will receive the upgrade to the Enhanced Edition for free!

Note: This upgrade is available to everyone who has bought The Witcher 2, not just folks who bought it from GOG.com. The upgrade will be free from now until the heat death of the universe, available through the in-game launcher.

In celebration, we’re offering The Witcher 2 on sale for 15% off, starting now, for the next two weeks.

In case you didn’t hear the news from CDP RED, let’s go over what’s new and awesome about the Enhanced Edition:

New major adventures set in new locations. These consist of an underground system of chambers beneath Loc Muine and a temperate coniferous forest in the Loc Muine mountains, and a secret cave passage. These new adventures will add several hours of story-based gameplay to the game.

New major characters to the Witcher story. One of them is Brigida Papebrock Dame. This noble woman comes from the Temerian family Papebrock and is a 30 year old lady-in-waiting of the Temerian court. The other characters are secret--for now!

All new animations and cut scenes, including a new, three and a half minute pre-rendered cinematic depicting the assassination of King Demavend of Aedirn. BAFTA Award winner and Academy Award nominee Tomasz Baginski brings this key historical event to life, setting the stage for the story told in The Witcher 2.

GOG.com will also be adding the Witcher comic book to our list of goodies on the 17th as a free gift to everyone who owns the Witcher 2; further, there will be a new game map, game guide, manual, and soundtrack available in your free goodies on that day as well.

The Witcher 2 is already a game that has won--in scientific notation--a gazillion awards. Come this April 17th, it’s going to get even better!

1c0n: I Have the Witcher 2 Collector's Edition. Never played it because at the time my PC was more a relic than an hardware. Now I got a new machine but I'm playing Witcher 1.
I must install Witcher 2 before 17/4 to demonstrate i bought the game before that date?
Stupid question, sorry, but I didn't understand how the game will recognise a copy bought before or after that date...
It does not matter when you buy it or install it. On 17/04, every game will get an update. If you install it later, you will get it whenever you install it.

I feel it is sad that absolutely every place where this news is posted there are a hundred people, one after another, asking the same question: "is it free?"

I guess that after over half a decade of horse armor DLCs and 15$ map packs it just seems unbelievable to most gamers that a dev can release new content for free for their game.
124
I loled at Namco's logo being first instead of CD Projekt's
nice trailer tough.
125
If this were a movie, I'd go see it!

SmashManiac: Does the free upgrade only apply to GOG.com owners? I have the Steam version.

Actually, no.

Forcen: Is this all the stuff that the Xbox 360 version will have? or do they get something more?
I heard that the xbox version will have a new intro, is that the same as the new cutscene mentioned above?

Also, will you need to use the patcher for this? Or can you just download the whole thing of gog and get it all without patching.

Thanks for all the free stuff, now ill just have to finish the first game.
As of April 17th both PC and xbox versions will be the same.

Haha, I read that wrong. I thought that he asked "Does the free upgrade apply to all version?" I messed it up :D

Bubble181: I'd just like to chime in and say that TW2 was a day-one purchase for me, even though I still don't have a PC that can run it. It's this sort of dedication to their customers (TW EE, TW 2.0 EE, no DRM through GOG,...) that means that, already, TW2 unplayed, I can almost guarantee a day-one purchase for TW3 :-)

Keep up the great work guys! :-)
Same thing on my end.

Dreadz, testify! CDP definitely set the bar high for value. Their Enhanced editions are amazing deals! I can't run TW1 yet, but I know it'll be great.

I swear to Jesus you guys are some of the best developers out there. I'll support you until the heat death of the universe :)

What can I say?

W O W !!!!!

And thank you !!!!!

I do love you guys CDP Red!!!

Are you sure?

Why then "The good news is that anyone who owns The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings before the 17th will receive the upgrade to the Enhanced Edition for free! "?
To me it sounds like "after 17th you'll pay it". Let me be clear: for a CD Project game I'll buy even two copy of the same game (oh, well... I've alreday done that with the first Witcher...), I'm only asking.

I think you're still so shocked that it's free that you're looking for ways to have to pay for it. It's okay, just take the upgrade. :p

After the 17th, they will no longer sell Witcher 2 in it's current form. That's why it's worded that way. DD stores will only sell the Enhanced Edition and retail stores will only get shipped Enhanced Edition copies just like Witcher 1.

If you buy an old retail copy after the 17th, you'll still get a free upgrade. Don't worry.

I think what it means is that after the 17th, CDPR is only going to be printing "Enhanced Edition" discs and selling the "Enhanced Edition" digital version.

My post is probably a little overkill since you have already got 3 replies... but when I bought The Witcher, the EE had already been out for some time, but for some reason I bought a copy of the game without EE pre-installed. Though that wasn't a problem at all because I just had to register my game at CDPR's website to upgrade my standard copy of the game to the EE. So unless they have changed their procedure at CDPR you should be able to get EE for free no matter when you install the game.

I just wish that there wasn't a 21/2 month wait for the upgrade.
As I am not far into the game I feel that I should wait until I have the new upgrade before I continue playing .
Does anyone have any idea at which level of the game the upgrade items, missions and characters will be accessible and affect future events?
Well done CDPR, not only for such an amazing game but an awesome after sales service. Most companies would sell these upgrades as add on packages, you deserve the loyalty of your customers. Too many companies let profit override quality. Perhaps other companies will start to understand that good games, without the invasive DRM that screws up our machines but does nothing to prevent piracy, are the best marketing policy.

Not very good at this so soory about the dumb question. I have purchased The Witcher 2, but have not downloaded it.
Will this new Enhanced Edition have any impact on the Ver 2.0 and is that already included in what I purchased?
Thanks
