New release: XIII

Say hello to XIII - probably the most unique FPS of all time. Definitely one of the best. Discover it, play it and perhaps shed a tear at the lack of a sequel.

XIII is a first-person shooter based on the first five volumes of a popular Belgian comic book series. You're put in the shoes of XIII, badly wounded and with no recollection of your past. The American president has been assassinated and all of a sudden everyone's out to get you. Are you the assassin? Were you framed? Whoever you are, you must be damn important and you won't let anyone stop you from reclaiming your identity.
What makes XIII special is its comic book-style design. The characters and weapons are cel-shaded, outlines and all, and there's a whole bunch of stylish features, like visualized sound effects. Imagine shooting a gun and seeing "BLAM!" right next to the muzzle flash. Just how cool is that?
Finally, a great, involving storyline, a perfect musical score, and top-notch voice acting by such actors as David Duchovny and Adam West make XIII an absolutely epic game.

That's a interesting addition! Good job GOG!

The cliff hanger makes this a no purchase for me, though the design looks interesting, reminds me of that for "Last Express".

Well, downloaded the demo. The installation failed half-way no matter what I tried. Same after downloading from another source.

While I'm guessing the GOG full version will not have the same problem, I am unwilling to buy without knowing its performance on my weak laptop.

This is a great fun game. I got it a few years ago and never regretted it, though I wish I had played through it more than once.

Thanks to it, I got into the awesome comic book. Too bad Panini never published the last 2 volumes in Brazil.

I played this on the Gamecube not too long ago (less than a year ago, I think). I really enjoyed it, but the whole time I was thinking "man, this is definitely not a console-optimal game. I wish I had a chance to get the PC version instead."

And, well... I guess now I do!

Wow, I didn't even know that XIII had a PC version. I picked the PS2 version up from a bargain bin for $5, since I'd heard a few good things about it, and I wound up enjoying it quite a bit. This is just the sort of under-the-radar game that fits right in on GOG. :)

As an American, I find European takes on United States conspiracies and conspiracy theories fascinating. I enjoyed this game so much that when I found out it was based on a French comic book of the same name, I was glad that I had taken French in high school, and sought out non-mint issues of said comic book. I was not disappointed.

*SPOILERS
The story in the comics were never resolved officially, although it was revealed that Sheridan was indeed number I, and he and XIII do eventually confront each other, but end up walking away from said confrontation, "for the good of the nation", but more so because XIII hasn't any good on Sheridan that proves he's I, and Sheridan doesn't want to make any big moves that might expose himself further. The following issues are essentially prequels to the above arc, detailing the life of XIII before his induction into the XX.

XIII is a great comic, but it have the same problem that other van Hamme comics (like Thorgal), the story should have ended before.

I really want to make a joke about XIII, Hank Moody and the sequel perhaps being called XVI, but I won't go there.

I bought this the second I saw it on gog.
Rather cool game although rudimentary gameplay.

I remember loving the comics as a kid and it's not too expensive so I grabbed this. The screens look pretty cool!
