  • A vast universe to explore, full of bizarre alien races, powerful ancient technologies and mysterious places
  • Pulse-pounding action, side-splitting humor, and hair-raising plot twists

Overview:

Star Control 1
Mankind is about to be wiped off the face of the galactic map. A savage clutch of alien races called the Ur-Quan Hierachy has become the “evil empire” of the 27th century- ruthlessly invading interstellar neighbors. Humanity is next on their list. Your job is to make sure that they don’t succeed. The entire Alliance of Free Stars battlefleet awaits your orders.

Star Control 2
Arguably the greatest space adventure on PC, with tons of humor and memorable characters. You start in a nearly empty space-ship, but as the game progresses, you can upgrade it with many modules that affect the vessel's attributes. You can discover new stars, meet new alien races, wage wars, and boldly go where no man has gone before you. A truly exceptional exploration game that that has influenced the entire industry. While playing this gem, it's really fun to observe how many of its gameplay features were copied by modern AAA titles.

Get The Ur-Quan Masters

Good game, but its freeware remake The Ur-Quan Masters is a lot better in every way. SC1 is not worth buying because of the super melee mode in SC2 that does almost the same thing.

My favorite game of all time

Posted on 2011-04-19 07:18:49 by Watashiii's avatar Watashiii:

Part one is a revolutionary space battle with over ten completely different alien ships, each with it's own set of abilities. It also included a strategy game to complement the space battles.
Part two is a full scale adventure/strategy with about 20 different races and a huge upgradeable carrier traveling through vast space and rescuing the universe by resource management, trading, read more diplomacy and aggression. This game has a simple, but comfortable, almost console-like interface with enough dialogs, strategic options and easter eggs to guarantee replayability even in today's age.
Knowing gog.com, the package probably comes with enough maps and guides to satisfy any collector. But if that's not enough, the internet is full of fan content due to Star Control's mind-influencing ability to spread obsessive fandom like a space plague
I could go on for hours, but for $6, you can just play it through a few times and then do it instead of me

Overjoyed to see these games on GOG.com

Star Control 2 is without a doubt my most cherished game of all time, even beating out enduring greats like Civilization. It provided exciting, dynamic combat, memorable characters and alien civilizations, vast swathes of space to explore, a genre-savvy space-operatic storyline with 20,000 years of backstory, resource collection and starship upgrades, some memorable community-sourced read more music and plenty more. It speaks to the game's longevity and charm that a fan community endures to this day, two decades on from the game's original release. You owe it to yourself to give this piece of gaming history a try.
Star Control 1 was a much simpler game - small maps offering competitive strategic play - but the same underlying combat engine is in place, and it's every bit as solid. You can also enjoy the combat mode with friends - the balance is excellent, with even the weakest ships having unique tactical advantages.
