Kinda Fun, But The Sequel is GREAT

So Ziggurat 1 is a fun enough Roguelike RPG/mostly first person shooter. However, besides unlocking some characters, weapons and perks, there isn't much else to do. There's isn't a ton of permanent game progression. You don't unlock minor passive upgrades or slowly strengthen already obtained characters or items. There's also only 3 difficulty settings, the hardest one just seeming impossible to me. I felt like I "beat" the game after completing a full run on a few characters. Yes, there is more to do, but the game didn't compel or strongly incentivize doing anymore than that. Ziggurat 2 has NONE of these problems in my opinion. All the characters are vastly different, passive upgrades are available, but also subtle enough not to trivialize the game. There's even a little campaign in the sequel with 5 different difficulty modes. There's not much of a story or anything, so I'd personally suggest hopping right into Ziggurat 2. The first game was enjoyable enough, but the sequel is just way more fun in my opinion.

Just a bit unsatisfying

It tries to be a Rogue/Painkiller hybrid, but it's lacking in two main ways.. 1. In Painkiller the enemies always come from the front. They only spawn behind you in the completely hated fanmade expansion, that's because having enemies spawn behind you takes away the fun of positioning and strategy, it's just really annoying. 2. The enemies aren't satisfying to kill and the weapons aren't fun to shoot. The weapons in Painkiller were fun just to shoot and a solid hit with almost any weapon was an instant kill against most enemies. That's not the case here, the weapons fire slightly slowly, with unsatisfying animations and seem to just bounce ineffectually off the many small enemies. I feel the makers of Ziggurat missed the point a little bit.

Didn't put a spell on me

I like Heretic, I like Milkstone's previous game Infinity Danger, and I sorta like rogue-likes but this game just doesn't do it for me. The weapons aren't interesting, and the enemies are a little too cartoony for my tests (slimes & carrots). It looks nice, it's good they give you an alt weapon from the start, but also if my pea shooter wand has infinite ammo why do I need to have the ammo recharge? Maybe it's to promote weapon swapping but I just found it tedious. A lot of these games suffer from the same problem. Boring basic weapon, ammo shortages for upgraded weapons. What they really ought to do is to have no weapon have infinite ammo so that they need to give enough ammo for all the different guns you can pick up.

Fast pace shooter with RP elements

I just played this thru and i am getting this as rating for this game 2/5. Let me explain: Positive: - Really nice rp elements - Loads of enemies to shoot at - Well crafted game, on how it looks Why it is terrible: - Monsters spawning every where, even behind you. Not a chance to hide.... - Very limited of weapons/spells, you can choose from. - Level design, can be better but it is okay.... - Not long gameplay, for main game (done in few hours) - Lacking of good upgrades, of spells and weapons when leveling up. Don't get me wrong, it is still fun to play. But, the game is really messy on how they did things.

FPS Enter the Gungeon, But for Wizards

I don't have much experience with roguelite/roguelike/whatever-they-are-called games. I've only played this and Enter the Gungeon. The former I did not play much of because of my lack of skill when playing games of the aforementioned genre and because I just don't like games with top-down perspective and almost no significant story much. This game is in first-person perspective, though, unlike most games in pointed genre and I guess that was a major factor for me to be interested in it. I haven't played much but I'll probably stick with this one for a while longer than I did with Enter the Gungeon. My only complaint is that in order to play with a character in hard mode (do correct me if I got this one wrong), you have to first complete the whole game on normal. I may not be very skilled but I prefer the bigger challenge to be available from the beginning, because I won't replay something with almost no story again.
